I'm sure a lot of people have seen/heard horror stories of Crypto but one of my former colleagues was big in to BTC before it was relatively mainstream. He told me he sold his BTC to pay for a holiday and a brand new Ford Fiesta all in cash. Before the market equalised, the BTC he sold would have been worth £900k. That's one expensive Ford Fiesta...

You can't blame the masses for doubting scientists. They had just been told we'd all had enough of experts!

If one of the outcomes of this pandemic is that people think scientists were the problem then that will be a terrible shame. Vaccines, treatment methods, pandemic research and all of the other work that scientists have undertaken globally will have done more to save lives and kill off this virus and it's variants than any government when all is said and done.
Regardless of if you are New Zealand that coped well or Brazil that has coped terribly, science is what will ultimately bring COVID and it's variants down to manageable levels globally. No amount of anti-science or anti-vaccination rhetoric can change that fact.

Yes - appreciate the nuance was "no earlier than" but in the dumbed-down media era, you know people just saw the date and words "all restrictions lifted" and that's why so many are kicking off at the prospect of it being put back 2 weeks
Exactly - that statement was ridiculous "it's about data not dates" and then proceeded to real off a series of dates
The whole thing should have been based on data. Certain conditions met = restrictions gradually lifted

I am quite interested to know what  people are hoping to do after 21st June that they can't do now?
Apart from holidays abroad (which I don't think will change much in the near future regardless of what we do domestically) I am struggling to think of what I am missing out on.
I am quite enjoying relaxed hospitality without someone else's oversized family group or drunken hen or stag party getting in my personal space. Thank goodness for tables spaced a little further apart!
Do we really need to be crammed in to everywhere like sardines to have a good time?
I suspect the lifting of restrictions might be delayed a bit but am still expecting a return to some football matches with a reduced capacity by the start of next season. That'll do me for now.

I have to rely more and more upon lipreading and gauging expressions, especially because it is now more than two years since my last 'annual' audiology test and hearing aid assessment.. I applaud the wearing of visors because they make life so much easier for those who are hard of hearing.

They are the same media who persuaded the population to give the Tories a landslide. Can't have it both ways.

I'm slightly puzzled as to why people (in general rather than specifically on here) are getting so cross about the prospect of the 21 June date getting put back
From what I can work out, the only additional things you would be able to do then that you can't do now are major events and full scale weddings/funerals. Otherwise, life feels pretty much bearable again to me. I can visit my friends/family in their homes, and I can go to the pub and sit inside.
The stupid thing IMO was that they ever announced 21st June as an "irreversible" date where all restrictions would be lifted - back in February. If they can't promise it now - at 3 weeks  away - why the hell did they promise it on Feb 22nd?

But on balance, I'd far rather spend the summer like we are today, than lift all restrictions on June 21st (for stuff I'm not planning to do anyway) and have us end up in another bloody lockdown within weeks

Maybe not - but you're citing the work of conspiracy theorists desperately trying to find figures that play into their conviction that there is some sort of hoax going on. In some cases because they're just not very well and have too much time on their hands, and in other cases so that they can perpetuate their grift and make a tidy sum out of the whole thing by exploiting those who just desperately want to believe
So let's be clear - there is no need for FOI requests to councils for this info
    1) because councils only carry figures for council-owned crematoriums and not private
    2) the total figure for 2020 is already published by the Crematorium Society.

You won't be surprised to see that there were ~70k more cremations in 2020

And that the bloke on Twitter called "John M:Wrong Think Super Spreader" has piped down a bit

Wow - Cummings has literally just said that there is something badly wrong with the system that allowed him to hold such a position of power. And then added Boris Johnson to that same rationale - he's basically saying what we all know. The system is f**ked and none of them have a clue what they are doing
