We on here may have been talking about it, but we don’t know that the club have.   He could have been chosen as a target, we enquired, tried to negotiate for a bit and realised we’re getting nowhere.  For all we know, we could have knocked this on on the head weeks ago.
Free to leave, not leave for free.  There’s a difference.

First time I have ever done a match thread.
1st round of the Caraboa Cup, 7.45pm kick off. Available on Sky Sports+
Warne has confirmed he will make some changes to freshen it up. I would imagine its still too soon for Ward & CBT, to start anyway, and Yates is still suspended.
Vickers - Nyambe Nelson Bradley Forysth - Fornah Adams - Jackson Collins Thompson - Brown
Luthra Wilson Ward Cashin Robinson Goudmijn Ozoh CBT Washington

He won the tackles but then took the ball off Osborne’s toe. He should have left the ball. But that’s his game, gung-ho approach which will get found out the higher up the tier he plays. He seem more recently to be taking too many touches or too long on the ball, again he will get found out.

Disappointing, but some reason for encouragement, some for worry.
    The good;
    - Thought goudmijn was stand out first half - raking passes and tight control.
    - We scored twice.
    - Thought Elder was fairly decent
    - That period in the 2nd half we looked good.
    - Vickers didn’t do owt wrong really
    The bad;
    - Cashin - Needs to calm down and have a word with himself; all over the shop positional wise, which led to goals.
    - Defensively in general really poor. For ozoh’s hype he didn’t cover himself in glory first half as a defensive shield, but certainly not all on him.
    - Poor application going forward first half.
    - Desperately need a new 9
    - The Blackburn subs highlight our lack of quality in depth too.

4 or 5 signings and some finding of feet and it’s not all doom and gloom though.

those players are equally balanced out by; Kazmierczak, Albentosa, Tito Villa (meh but good money), Jozwiak, Te Wierik, Mascarell, Conor Doyle, Feilhaber etc

ultimately it is hard - cause you're dealing with people, deadlines and a competitive  marketplace.
The club haven't turned around and gone 'nah don't fancy a striker - we want a recruiter instead'
barring a GK the club is pretty much on track with their plan - with the aim of adding a GK plus 4 before end of the window (late loans)

You have to remember we are still rebuilding - but taking the opportunity to be better than we were. That means investing in infrastructure and not ripping up a squad every 12 months. Will they get everything right? no - but if they get 70% right then we will be flying in 36 months time

I don't want appeasing.  I'm stating the glaring obvious.  We have about 6 wide players and 3 forwards, one of them was given a one year deal as a backup. That's fine.  The other back up is terminally injured.  The one who should be starting will get maybe 10 goals and can't play. We seem to be adding analysts and recruitment personnel galore to try and find some players outside the norm as we don't have a budget that will be any larger or will be around the same as 8-10 clubs.  What have they been doing.   It's not hard really Rasiak Bisgaard, Wanchope, Christie, Willems, Idiakez  etc etc.  Not enough has been done.

We didn’t let Sibley go, he rejected the contract offered to him. Waggy barely played due to injury. Hourihane barely hit in the team towards the end and certainly wouldn’t now. Yates scored more than them all including Gayle who also was injured.
Weve also kept our 2 highest scorers and added someone (Yates) who scored more than anyone else in our team. So not sure your point is valid mate

DCFC1388 reacted to MACKWORTHRAM in Transfer rumours
But why keep Sibley? If he was as good as some of our fans think he was, we would have had no choice for him to play in his best position and he would have scored goals at league one level. He played under several managers here an nobody continuously selected him. Because he is not good enough. If he was and we had a championship number 10 who was capable of 7-8 goals, he wouldn't have signed on a free for Oxford.
Do you think if there was the exact striker out there we wanted on a reasonable wage, that we wouldn't have signed him by now? Or possibly because the one we want is not available just yet, so we have to wait. Try and name one?
Bristol City have spent £2.5 million on Armstrong who has scored 3 goals in 61 games. Osula gone for £15 million. Stansfield meant to be 6 million.
Midfield was paramount and to get 4 midfielders in was a necessity and a striker who last 2 seasons has top scored for his club is pretty good business. Kenzo looks a real find. Osborn is experienced at this level.
Adams is not in the team to be technical. He is in the team to do his job, which is energy, breaking play and protecting the back 4.

DCFC1388 reacted to MACKWORTHRAM in Transfer rumours
What would you have done exactly? Its alright sitting there saying "more should be done"
But if you have got your number one targets that you want, and you get told that you have to wait because his club want to look at thim in pre season? Or they say "yes you can take him but at the moment I have a lot of players away on holiday still due to the Euros, so when I get everyone back, we can let him go"
Do you just say no straight away and move on to players you dont want as much? Just to say you have made a signing.
Whats the issue with having Adams and Ozoh? There will be games where they are both needed, games where one is injured. You have 9 subs, you need depth.
So last season when we were going for automatic promotion, we just change our set up, change our best team (a team that won 8 out of the last 10 games and conceded 3 goals) play Sibley, just incase we may not be able to have a number 10 in for the first 3 games of the season?
Then when Sibley turns down a deal and says he wants to move on, we would still be in this position now.
We could easily go and sign 4 players tomorrow that nobody wants.
We have 3 league games before the window shuts.

It’s a constantly transitioning situation, those 28 year olds give us a couple of years meaning we can move on the 30 somethings the following year whilst promoting the academy players and adding more mid 20 somethings. The club IS still recovering from almost going bust and can’t do it all in one fell swoop based on what the senior decision makers are saying in their interviews.

We have pretty much used it on Kenzo, Adams & Zetterstrom. However, with it being additional income you would hope we still have most of our original transfer budget still to spend. Dembele would cost a fee if we are going to buy him rather than loan.

DCFC1388 reacted to On the Ram Page in Rohan Luthra - signed on a 1-year-deal
Can’t see what all the fuss is about! We have signed a 22 year old as 3rd choice keeper, provided we do sign our No 1 choice. He is on a 1 year deal. He will train with the goalkeepers and hopefully improve with being in the group. He has been in the England set up, so someone has thought he has some ability. He will not be paid very much and will basically be with the squad to assist with shooting practice etc before games. Very unlikely to get any game time, unless we get injuries.
He allows Thompson to go out on loan for a season of men’s football, which will hopefully develop him further rather than clicking his heels on match days at Pride Park etc.
if Luthra improves we may have a saleable asset in the future. If he doesn’t we will offload in 12 months, for very little expenditure.
Seems a win/win situation to me.
