Hi Rams, I commented on the reverse fixture when you battered us earlier in the season so thought I would do the same just to give some context from the other side.

A very different game to the one at Pride Park earlier in the season. The San Sixfields pitch is much smaller which definitely helps us, particularly against the big boys in the division. We have taken a pasting of pretty much all of the teams at the top of the table away from home this season, whilst at home managed mostly narrow defeats instead.

No doubt that you should have scored at least one of the two chances in the first half, or at the very least worked the keeper, one of them goes in and you dont lose the game without a shadow of a doubt. The game earlier in the season you were picking holes in between our midfield and defense with ease, also NML pace was a constant threat. However in this game were clearly more compact and outside of those opportunities it didn't feel like you created a huge amount of clear cut chances. It was noticeable that you were much more direct this game for whatever reason, which I am far more confident of us deadling with. I know you have a number of bodies out, but we have 10 out (mostly in defence) so the injury list was similar on both sides.

I thought the goal was a really well taken finish, definite foul in the build up but the defending after that would be pretty poor. Your full back (Wilson I think) also definitely handled it in the second half with no one around him.

I sit in the end where Bradley got his red, he definitely put his head in. Don't get me wrong i dont think Monthe is going to require a trip to the hospital but unfortunately you have to go down to almost bring it to attention. Thought it was poor from a guy who is that experienced and was seemingly always looking for physicality in the game. Yes we tried to slow down the game, no doubt about it. If i was an away fan I would be furious and hope the ref would stop it. But to add some context our season has been petering out to a degree with mid table safety and clearly our manager has given them a rocket pointing out there are still points to play for, there was not a lack of effort on our point despite little to play for seemingly. To be honest we are doing about as well as a club our size could be expected to do, as we were on of the favorites for the drop.

I hope you go up, clearly a huge club that should not be at this level (plus dont want Peterborough to go up). I am guessing there is a big split in the fanbase over the manager, that was evident by the booing of one of the substitutions which you don't expect from a team that are fighting for the title. As a completely neutral observer Warne to me sits in the Gareth Ainsworth esque category of managers. Likeable character and personable, but with limitations at a higher level and in developing a more free flowing style, it dosnt seem like the best fit. Playing Pompey and Peterborough recently (both away so different challenges I guess) but they seemed much more composed in their style of play and just seemed to have more ways to hurt us.

Hopefully your injury woes ease up a little and all the best for the rest of the season.

Excellent post. Thanks for coming on.

It's possible that the lino had a word over the comms. Whatever, it doesn't absolve Bradley from the daftness of getting involved unless there was no contact and the oppo player simply took a dive. Without video evidence, only the two players can be sure.

I had a good view from the stand and Bradley brought his towards the guy which is a licence to go down of course. No surprise for me when ref produced red. Provocation no doubt but stupid nonetheless.

  3. I do think we are giving Northampton a tad too much credit and tolerance for their tactics. For me their s**t housing was outrageous. Never seen a home team in the same league employ time wasting to that extent which simply disrupted any continuity in the game. The referee's tolerance for it was typical of this league but he simply didn't do anything when they continued to do it. Ok they won but if we were guilty of that I would be ashamed. Disgruntled fan on way back from match.

Looking ahead to Exeter a midweek game I believe. Does anyone know if we sold out last season in similar circumstances? Wondering as I am definitely going but my mate is lower down the away member rankings.

    Thanks in anticipation....

I've answered my own question. 1300 available and 1103 attended. So fingers crossed we are ok!!

  6. Can someone in the know make the position clear please. My understanding is we have a 1 year option on Cash running to the end of next season. He is not free to walk away at the end of this season hence the talk of a sizeable fee not just compensation.

    Is this correct?

    Thanks in anticipation!

Was pleasantly surprised to hear the club has an option on a 1 year extension for Cashin.

Heres hoping both Cashin and Bird sign new contracts. That would make team building a little easier in the summer. Both young and been through the academy too.

I agree. Years option on Cash explains why Brighton are quoted as offering a significant fee....

There have been loads of comments and threads about whether this squad is good enough for promotion. Some have said no, citing the awful performances so far, and others, myself included, have said yes, but we rarely see it. Until last night!

As The Last Post has just said, I suspect that there was a lot more to the meeting between owner and manager than we were led to believe, such that the undying support fir Warne from the club was conditional.

So was last night the result of Warne putting his hands up and just letting the boys “do their stuff” instead of imposing his “masterplan” on them. In fact the only bit of Paul Warne influence we saw last night was bringing Collins on when it should have been Browne.

Admittedly Northampton were the worst side to appear at Derby, although I didn’t get to see Finn Harps all those years ago. But as someone said earlier, Northampton haven’t lost by more than a goal or two till last night, emphasising just what our team can do if allowed.

A big shout out to Smith for his tackles and interceptions, and to Barkhuisen, who was the catalyst for so much last night, including a superb interception in our own area early doors. He could have been man of the match if Bird hadn't been so good, although has anyone else wondered if he had strayed slightly offside for the first goal?

And all four goals were superbly made, with the last one being absolutely ruthless - they made a mistake just outside our area and in a flash we had put it in the net at the other end. Marvellous!

The guy stood next to me last night described the match as “ a bit like clubbing a seal”! And we could do that to most teams in this league, so pray that we don’t revert to form and go “hoof it long to no-one” again. All the fans have wanted is for the team to play to it’s strengths. Who knows what might happen if we play like that against the Stevenages of this world!

Re Bird goal from my perspective he was careful to remain behind/level with Wash before he crossed. Their defenders were irrelevant to that....

These late night announcements are weird, but I'm not gonna complain while we keep making solid signings!

Norwich Exile, I am similarly exiled but  take solace as a member of the Norfolk Rams. Join us if u are feeling in need of some local support for your addiction (and loads of alcohol at away games!)

So after 12 months showing his quality in the championship, world cup, international friendlies etc etc yawn.  He's got his big move to were he started 12 months ago.  Does this mean he's not the superstar he thinks he is and has huge delusions of grandeur.  That shop window must have needed a good clean.

Thank good he's gone with his back of narcissism.

A few significant changes that have happened to English football since 1985/86

    1) The play-offs were first introduced to the English Football League in 1987 and have been staged at the conclusion of every season since.

    2) The number of substitutes usable in a competitive match has increased from zero, meaning that teams were reduced if players' injuries could not allow them to play on, to one in 1958; to two out of a possible five in 1988. With the later increases in substitutions allowed, the number of potential substitute players increased to seven. The number of substitutes increased to two plus one (injured goalkeeper) in 1994, to three in 1995; and most recently temporarily increased to five substitutes in 2020 due to Covid and permanently to five in 2022/23.

    3) Relegation from Div 4 of the Football League through re-election - No club was voted out in the eight seasons until 1986, after which the system was abandoned in favour of direct promotion between the Football League and the Football Conference

    4) In 1992/93 the Premier League was introduced and since then, all common sense in the domestic English football world is disappearing bit by bit

Not one to be pedantic (honest)  but the first substitute in the English league was in 1965. Also there were no substitutes in the 1966 world cup. Always a great trick quiz question when you ask who were subs for the final.
