Then there was the small matter of Derbyshire FA objecting to the name "Derbyshire County" so that led to another meeting and thereafter on 15th May, the name Derby County was announced. I believe therefore that the official birthday is 8th May 1884. Some of us have proposed holding some kind of commemorative birthday event (possibly at the Old Bell Hotel where the Committee used to meet) but that hasn't gained traction ....yet. As someone else suggested somewhere else. 3rd goes straight to the final. 4th plays 7th, single game, 4th placed team at home. 5th plays 6th, single game, 5th placed team at home. Winners of the two above games play off to play in final. Single game, highest placed in league at home. Much more reward for league placing and goes a long way towards stopping what Peterborough did.

A league having the 'best' players, managers and coaches, doesn't necessarily make it the best in the world. Genuine competition and excitment are also needed, two things that are conspicuously absent in the PL.
