Agree totally, Northampton was the turning point, when Warne through critism finally dropped CH and he did not start another game, if he had then doubt if we would have been promoted. Adams made the difference for promotion.

Jesus, what does PW have to do to gain any praise? Do you honestly feel CH was dropped because of criticism rather than Warne could see he had started to struggle and needed a rest from the starting eleven?

He's taking the piss, because I made a post about Warne earlier down the thread and then edited it to say can't be bothered. Which I can't because as you point out it's not allowed to have doubts about Warne's ability at Championship level, nor to remember and be concerned by just how abject some of the football was last season.

Other than an elite few, there are supporters of pretty much every team who complain about the style of football their team plays.

And like you I have doubts about Warne’s ability at Championship level, just as I did when he was appointed as manager. But after2 years of PW in charge, I’ve seen enough to think he’s a highly competent man who will steer us to at least a lower/mid table finish and put the platform in place for an eventual promotion challenge.

    Long live inconsistency!

It”s a well known fact that inconsistency (especially the consistent type) has always been the key to winning titles, cups and promotions. I will consistently be hoping for inconsistency next season.

Far too many great players to have worn our shirt since the late sixties for me to choose 3.

I have supported the mighty Rams since the early 1960’s (Tim Ward was our manager). We have had our fair share of brilliant/poor players but I think comparatively few “bad eggs”. I am always immensely proud when I hear any of our current squad being interviewed. They all seem to be very grounded and humble young men. Paul Warne, David Clowes etc also set a very fine example for them to follow.

It’d be churlish not to give Warne some credit, given that we’ve been promoted. But we had a strong squad relative to the rest - especially second half of the season - and we were consistently inconsistent throughout.  I would love it to be better under PW next season but tbh that would be a (pleasant) surprise.

Well, call me totally unambitious but I’d absolutely love more of the same from PW next season. More “consistent inconsistency” and promotion to the PL via the automatics (with a 5 point leeway) would suit me just fine. Bring it on.

  6. Honestly feel PW has done an excellent job and some people do not give him the credit he thoroughly deserves. It’s only two years since we were on the verge of extinction and had been stripped back to just about nothing.Think Rosenior (for putting together the basis of the squad that got us up), DC (for having the courage of his convictions) and Warne deserve enormous credit. Don’t get me wrong. PW’s no Pep/Klopp but I honestly feel he is about the nearest we can get at our level. I was a Warne doubter when he joined but have slowly begun to realise what a fantastic football man he is.

  7. We already have Elder, Washington and Ward who seem to be injury prone. Rooney’s also returning from a serious (hopefully one off) injury. I know every signing is a risk but just don’t think it’s worth it with TJJ. It’s mot just last season but now several seasons where he seems to have been injured for significant periods. Massive shame as he obviously has talent, is still young and seems to be one of Warne’s “right types”.

  8. Think so much will depend on squad depth as injuries, suspensions and fatigue take their toll.

Warne knows we need reinforcements in January and for me, we need 3 new players.

My fear is that Cashin and Bird leave which would mean 5 new players needed. To bring in 5 quality players in a notoriously difficult window would be some achievement. Planning seems to have been ongoing for some time so hopefully we can do it.

  9. There’s no reason at all why Paul Warne can’t take us up and keep us in the Championship. He’ll need smart recruitment and some investment from DC which i hope he will be prepared to give.

i know our long term aims are higher than the Championship but it would be a massive step in the right direction after all we’ve been through.

  10. Feel the season is just starting for us. Will be very interesting to see who starts once the injured players return. I feel with our current squad, not only should we have a strong starting 11 but we should have some excellent replacements available on the bench.

Dare I say it but quietly optimistic for the remainder of the season (famous last words).

For somebody who many people think can’t attract quality players to the club, I feel Paul Warne and co have done an excellent job in putting together our current squad. Just a matter of getting the best out of them now.

  11. I honestly feel some people need to give their head a good wobble. I really think some people think recruiting new players is as easy as going down to Tesco and buying a loaf of bread. Maybe we should wait till September 1 before judging our summer recruitment too harshly. And even giving players a decent chance to show how good/bad they are before we call them a reincarnation of Bobby Malcolm/King Kevin Hector.

  12. Sibley’s definitely got goals in him. Would love to see him get a run of games playing as a number 10 which would hopefully give him the confidence to kick on. Will be a big season for Louie. Has so much to offer but it hasn’t quite happened for him so far. Next season’s the season for him. Come on Louie!

  13. Stand by my prediction of 6 goals for Birdy. Think Smith will play CDM (Thommo when needed). Feel Warne wants Max in the opposition half much more than he was last season and with the shackles off, Max will score goals. Also wondering if Warne will make Hourihane captain - if Max stays at Derby I’m sure he will make a great captain one day. Birdy’s a gem of a lad but I often felt the captaincy was a huge ask for someone so relatively young. Now, starting to think I should up that prediction from 6 to 10 😄😄!

  14. For what it’s worth, here’s my predictions on league goals each member of the current squad will get

    Ward 6

    Wilson 3

    Elder 1

    Fossy 1

    Nelson 2

    Bradley 3

    Smith 1

    Bird 6

    Hourihane 7

    Sibs 8

    Thommo 2

    NML 8

    Washington 14

    Collo 18

    Barks 4

Hope I haven’t forgotten anyone. That’s a total of 84 which is 17 more than last season and without any new arrivals, which I don’t think will be the case.

I also expect us to concede less than last season.

Think we’re in for a good season. COIYR.

  15. Would very happily take Waggy if Warne wants him and a deal can be done. Even without him, I feel the current squad is capable of scoring more goals than we did last season when it was often a case of if McGoldrick doesn’t score, nobody will. I’d much prefer to be less reliant on one player scoring the goals. Confident of a very good season ahead. Some excellent signings so far and I’m confident if Warne can bring in the 2 or 3 signings he says he wants, it will not be just to increase the numbers. We may not have a 25 goal striker in our ranks but we definitely have goals. COYR.

  16. We’ve signed a number of players with the potential to develop. Bartley, Radcliffe, the 2 lads from Rangers off the top of my head. Just not lower league. Don’t know but suspect they’re more down to Thomas than Warne.
