Agree the shoot out was utterly daft. Managed to suspend my disbelief long enough as if it were James Bond.

It’s never going to be believeable but it is great entertainment.

Yes, entertainment. I've no problem with shows or films that are like the finale episodes of Slow Horses. They are what they are, and done well, it's great entertainment.

I'd just prefer this show, not to go in that direction. It just seems out of sync with the other episodes.

Is it better than season 2?

I ONLY stuck with that because of how good Oldman was. I can't stand Jack Lowden.

4 episodes into Kin and really starting to like it. Loved the pub shooting scene, it was like it had come straight out of The Sopranos.

    Re Slow Horses.

I've watched all 3 series. I like the idea of it, and I like the overall feel of it, but ... .. .

For me, it's totally ruined by the finale of each season. This descends into something that looks like a cross between a Bruce Willis film , or The A team. It's out of character with the rest of the show. The shoot out in the latest one, was so ridiculous, it didn't just ruin the last episode. They actually started that in the previous one !They must have run out of ideas or script.

I also think the story lines are ridiculous, and the acting is not great either. Apart from Oldman of course, who is brilliant. The only thing that makes it watchable for me. Even though , left to my own devices, I probably wouldn't have bothered after the first series ( Mrs likes it).

I'll watch series 4 no doubt. But pretty confident they'll ruin the end of that too.

Finally gone through the entire 7 (8 really, as the last one was 21 episodes) season of The Sopranos.

Never seen any before, and I have no earthly clue why not.

It may be the best thing I have ever seen on TV, and I can see why it was the most watched non-network drama in US TV history.

Outstanding acting with brilliant, insightful and at times, hilarious, scriptwriting.

Such depth to it and a real commentary not just on the mafia, but life in general, as they all deal with the same crap we all deal with.

I doubt many of you good folk haven't seen it, but if you haven't, you need to.

CahrlieGeorge/10 with some Colin Todd thrown in.

I'm currently re watching this. I'm about half way through I think. I watched it when it was first broadcast, but no doubt missed some of the episodes. Really well made, and some great characters. Also probably the only show, that when I'm watching it, I never skip the opening credits!

'Very' funny is most definitely a stretch!

It's a drama really.  With interactions between individuals and group dynamics pushing against each other.

With this ever present backdrop of 'something isn't right' gradually playing out.

Some films are just plain slow and boring, by accident.  This was purposely unrushed with lots of space to give you the chance to draw your own conclusions.

The petty stuff that was happening seemed more important than whatever danger was impending.

I mostly enjoyed it. The acting was great and it was well written, so it felt like a thriller but it kept reverting away from that.

I can also see how on a Friday night when you're expecting a blockbuster it would feel quite limp.

Not quite sure I understand all the directorial decisions but I did find it engaging (although not very funny!).

I've just re listened to the show, as I was wondering if I had the right film.

I did. They both thought it was hysterically funny. One of them thought it was not meant to be that way though. To them it was just bad. The other enjoyed it, as an hysterically funny comedy film.

    2hrs 56mins into Nihal Arthanayake show , radio 5 , 14.12.23.

    Leave the World Behind...

Strange one for me, Could it happen? Over 2 hours long...so i'll give it a 6-10 🤷‍♂️

This was being discussed/reviewed on R5 today.

Both reviewers thought it was very funny. However, only one thought it was supposed to be funny.

Did you think of it as a comedy?

Got tickets for Echo and the Bunnymen and Elvis Costello, both at the newly-renovated (and re-named) Bristol Beacon.

As you said renamed, I had to look it up and see if it's where I thought it was.

I saw my first gig there, in 1973.

Slade, and The Sensational Alex Harvey band. Up until then, the loudest music I'd have heard would have been a school disco.

My ears were ringing for the next two days 😀

Well, I appreciate the response.  If we could all keep the thread somewhat on track in future for those that 'dare to dream' it would be appreciated.

Personally, I think its only a matter of time until humans have a permanent presence on both the Moon and Mars.  Yes there are huge challenges ahead and the timescales quoted may be optimistic, but I feel confident that I'll see it in my lifetime.

I agree with you about the Moon and Mars, but I'm thinking in terms of hundreds of years away rather than decades.

Although the quakes are subsiding in intensity, this may not necessarily be a good sign. All of the Reykjanes eruptions in the current cycle (3 in the last couple of years) have followed a similar pattern - massive earthquake swarms with loads of 3+ magnitude as the deeper rocks are forced apart and the dyke forms, then a sustained drop in intensity and magnitude as the pressure drops and the magma starts to fill the newly-formed dyke. Then, the pressure rises again which triggers another burst of earthquake activity. Eventually something snaps - or the eruption fails.

This cycle of Reykjanes eruptions can go on for a century or two - and then the area goes quiet for a millennium. The current cycle has only just begun. Nothing can stop it - it is the very mechanism which formed Iceland in the first place (the separation of the North Atlantic and Eurasian plates along the line known as the 'Mid-Atlantic Ridge'.

What would have to happen for someone to announce, it's ok, all the people who have been evacuated can go home now, it's all calmed down.

Or is that just never going to happen?

  9. I'm very out of touch, with pretty much everything I think. Having enjoyed a lot of the rugby world cup games on TV, I thought it'd be good to go and watch a game. Back in the mid 70s up to the early 80s, I used to go and watch Gloucester RFC several times a season. Rugby was quite a different sport then.

Anyway, nearest premiership side to me is Northampton. So, onto the website, which is brilliant, pick a game, buy tickets etc. Let's you choose your seat, so I picked a block about level with the 22 metre line. £68 each. So if me and her go, £136 before petrol, parking , food etc. Thought I'd done something wrong, so tried another block , same price. Even behind the posts was £48 each. That's for a mid season run of the mill game.

So, I was wondering what it costs , as a one off ticket , to go to a test match at Lord's for example. Or a day at the Open championship? Wimbledon? Spurs v Man city? GP at Silverstone? Heavyweight fight at a London stadium?

I'm sure there's folk on here who go to watch sport other than DCFC , so just wondered how much it costs !

I can honestly say I was today years old when I first saw and heard about the "squatty potty". And I'd add I'd probably rather still be in the dark!

You're not alone . In the picture, I thought it was for a toddler.

Ran a quick search out of curiosity and got the results below using same criteria as for July renewal and got the results below. Churchill a tad more expensive, but I'd haggle off £25 on the call. Couple of quite cheap ones too. Not seeing any significant uplifts at all to be honest. A few % if anything so perhaps sharp rises are location dependent? It's a weird one!

We'll all come to your place , and renew from there, because everyone else's seems to have gone up by 30 to 50%.

    Put the kettle on. 😀
