Perhaps @Ghost of Clough should have said “proven” youngsters. Bird and Cashin were so established in the first team when PW arrived that it doesn’t quite feel right to describe them as “youngsters” even though they technically are.

Having said that, I’m not entirely convinced PW is afraid to play unproven youngsters. It could just be that he doesn’t see them good enough (at the moment) to make that breakthrough.

It’s always a risk playing unproven youngsters in the first team and it’s perhaps a risk PW should have taken earlier in the season but now we’re at the sharp end of the season, maybe it’s more important to stick with experience.

Cashin had only played 18 games the season before, less than Thompson.

The quote was "he absolutely is afraid of putting young players in incase they make mistakes."

Which in my opinion is an unfounded statement that isn't backed up by him using youngsters he feels are going to better his first team.

"If they're good enough" is only true if a manager is willing to give them a go. Thompson was good enough for 25 Championship games in the 21/22 season (1521 mins) but only good enough for 10 under Warne last season (159 minutes). Warne isn't the only manager guilty of it, but he absolutely is afraid of putting young players in incase they make mistakes.

For comparison, what about Bird and Cashin. He isn't afraid to put youngsters in, he just doesn't think some are as good as other options.

Same as every manager really, Cole to Chelsea is a very good example of that.

    Edit

Also add in Haydon Roberts, another "young" player, PW was happy to play.

Quantuma were pretty gullible being taken in by Kirchner, but they weren't the only ones. The 'honourable' local MP's also jumped on the bandwagon, then typically slithered under the door when the truth emerged.

The slate should have been wiped clean and anyone connected with that utter shambles of a way to run a football club should have been out of a job. In my opinion.

Anyone who comes onto Radio Derby to reassure fans that the Dubai takeover is oncourse and assures us there are no concerns, needed binning off. In my opinion.

I won't go into the fans forum I attended when Mel got us all a pint and we were bare face lied to.

I'm sure he is a nice man, infact I had a good conversation with him in the Yard before the very fans forum and he seemed like a top man. But all things considered, he shouldn't be employed by Derby. In my opinion.

I don't agree David Clowes is as thick as a Boxing Day turd, but the wedge his back pocket probably is so he does what he wants.

Whereas I'd disagree, no one has ever in my opinion given any facts to what our current CEO has done wrong, speculation yes.

Mind you, I used to have the same debate around our previous CEO, I remember at the time so many saying he had also been the architect of our running the club poorly and our owner at the time had to step in to put things right. That turned out well 🤨

  5. Never listened to him on radio so can't comment on that, met him a couple of times at grassroots football. During these brief encounters, I see why he divides opinion, however as with anyone, I hope he finds what's he is looking for and has put whatever issues he has had, firmly behind him.

  6. Callum Wilson, Pickford, Pope are just a number of names that went on loan to the national league. There are often players from the PL loaned out to the league to gain experience,

It's not something Warne and his staff have just dreamed up to ruin our academy, being a third tier club, limits the number of clubs that are interested in players that can't get into our own first team.

Are their careers nosediving though or is just proof that Derby are making the right decision to let them go?

Struggling to think of many that we have let go that have gone on to higher levels.

There aren't many, the difference between U21 and playing in the first team is massive. Very few actually make it, Stretton is another example of someone who looked good at that level because it's not really competitive.

Can't understand the fascination for a 18 year old leading your line in a promotion charge who has no experience, why not send him out to prove what he can do. If he starts scoring for fun, you then have a player who can be recalled that is on top of his game and full of confidence.

Good Grief! Stevenage away!!! When we totally ignored midfield and simply hoofed the ball, thinking that if you kick the ball higher than the opposition it will get you the win. That was one of the matches when the fans turned on Paul Warne prior to the start of the good run. So how on earth can Sibley stake his claim to the AM role when the rest of the team were under instruction to not give the ball to him?

You seem to have jumped over a post without reading the previous message, I'd suggest you do that first 👍

And yet we offer this scenario to Barkhuizen time and time again.

Was CBT not brought in to replace him as a starter. For me, he is still ahead of Sibley, but regardless I'm sure he has obeen dropped from the starting line up and it seems has been identified as a player we can improve on.

  10. 7 minutes ago, Srg said:

So when has Sibley had 3 games in his preferred position? Genuine question, it must have happened, but I don't remember it.

I can't remember yesterday, let alone something like that.

I believe Stevange away and ones prior to that he was played in an advanced position. (Only because someone mentioned it at weekend, so it may or may not be true)

  11. 11 minutes ago, MadAmster said:

We, and he, will never know until he gets a run in a settled role. Adams? He's playing the role for us he has everywhere else so, IMO, the comparison can't be made...

Apologies, the point I was making is that you don't need a run of games to prove the shirt is yours. I think Sibley over the years under various different managers, has had plenty of opportunities in his favoured role, if it takes him 45 minutes to get into a game, that's a luxury you can't afford imo.

  12. 1 minute ago, Srg said:

In what world have Sibley and Adams played the same role? They're completely different players and have been asked to do completely different things. You're adding 2 and 2 and making 5.

There's multiple problems afoot with Sibley, but fundamentally, he's fell in a trap we've had before with some players where if they score or assist then happen to keep the shirt, they're then hauled off at half time the next game if they've not done it again. Meanwhile, average performances that are no better than his start weekly. Only chance he's had to be in the team for any length of time was at left back, and we had a really solid defence during that period against all odds.

We could compare him to Knight as someone who got used in many positions, but Knight had better attributes to do so - quicker, better engine, better tackler, just to name three. But, to no one's surprise, he's gone to Bristol and been used in the position we were banging on about for years and he's unlocked that next level we knew he had.

Unfortunately for Louie, he's probably going to have to leave and I have no doubt he will do alright when a team let's him be him for a bit.

In what world did I say they did 😳 I was pointing out that it doesn't take a number of games to show that shirt is yours. As I followed up with, others have taken the role Sibley plays in.

Compare him to who you want, blame PW for holding him back (ignoring the other managers of course), however as I said in my OPINION, he hasn't progressed and is best used as an impact sub.

I think he will do alright, I think though he will probably be another Mason Bennett though, hope I'm wrong.

  13. 3 minutes ago, MadAmster said:

Used in just about every role but his preferred one and never given a run except for those 15 games at left back last season. I wish people would refrain from stating the obvious and look for the reasons. Playing a different position every game does not help a young lad develop. That is what has happened to Sibs. If PW isn't intending to give him a job to do and a run of games at it, he'll be better off going somewhere where they'll give him what DCFC hasn't. Possibly his own fault for being "utility".

Imo that's not an excuse for him. He has been used in various roles because under several managers he has not been deemed good enough in them attacking ones. Adams has come in, taken him 3 game's to show he is the best suited for that role, whereas Sibley hasn't and others perform better in that position.

As I said, my opinion, but rumours has it he has been offered around and we had no takers, come summer on a freebie, he should have them jumping for his signature if he is that good.

  14. Personally think he is best utilised as a sub when the game is more open. He may have the most contributions stats wise however this doesn't tell the same story as watching the game. Unfortunately he isn't involved within the game as an attacking player for me and therefore sometimes it's like playing with a player less.

I remember him breaking through and thought he was going to be the next big thing, still may be, his love for the club is clear, his desire is also there wherever he puts on the shirt is never on doubt.

However he hasn't been able to hold down a regular place under several managers, he hasn't got people knocking down the door to take him to their club and therefore is at a crossroads of his career in the summer. Hopefully for him, wherever he ends up, he can kick on with his career but a change may be what is needed.

It may or may not be Warne's fault but that doesn't mean it's nobody's fault.   We needed a striker and we didn't get one.   If we'd put the CBT money towards, for example,  Chris Martin that to me would have made more sense.   I don't want to go on about it because it's done now but it's not as if the need for a striker is only being seen now we went into the window with most saying that's the priority.

Think it's been well documented that we didn't have any space on the business plan for a perm signing.

So doing what you suggest, wasnt feasible from my understanding.

I don't want you removed! Appreciate the honesty, just think it's always best to be up front about such matters.

Never hid behind anything, I left because I was getting involved in the COVID thread, where the same posters had the same arguments every day and refused imo to change stance depending on which side of the fence they sat (Me included).

I came back to give some insight based on being around the academy and unfortunately have got involved again, in what sometimes feels like Groundhog Day, just a different subject. I said at the time, I have no real affiliation to PW, more stability around the club and not going down the same route as the previous owner.

IMO I think he is doing a good job, but then I had never heard of him before he came to us, so I really don't care what he did before joining us.

I think even you would admit I've been pretty consistent with my views win lose or draw.

The standards of the club really must have fallen then if you think setting up so negatively and having 2 shots on goal in a 3rd division home game against stevenage isn't a bit embarrassing.

Alternatively a clean sheet, another 3 points against a team 7th in the league, 2nd in the league by 3 points and a good goal as well.

The standards are what they are really, a club getting back on his feet, under an EFL business plan, following nearly going out of business less than 2 years ago after being relegated to the third tier of English football following a 21 point deduction.

The whole 'Hi, I'm Returning Ram, I used to have another account" thing has never sat right with me tbh - duplicate concurrent accounts are banned yet apparently you can waltz on with another name (as long as the other isn't banned) and carry on old disputes?

Who were you before your return?

BillyD if that means that much to you. if it's against forum rules, happy for @David to remove my access 😊

He's a good Lague One manager with serious limitations which stop him being anything more than a League One manager, unless he proves otherwise.

At ths point though, if you dare mention his past at Championship level you're a Warne-hating outcast.

Really, you haven't mentioned it before

  20. Still don't get the debate, their own website states it's not accurate.

Expected goals predicts the correct home team result 66% of the time and away results 58% of the time. This is slightly better than shots on target on the away results and slightly worse on the home results.
