in this article, Leigh Curtis says Hourihanes contact is expiring this summer and he also talks about Hourihane and the possible player coach role at Barnsley. 

Watching Celtic v Kilmarnock last night and Kilmarnocks right winger Danny Armstrong who I’ve suggested here before was very good. Was causing a good quality left back in Greg Taylor a lot of problems and had a great goal disallowed for a marginal offside by VAR.
He is 26 and has 1 year left on his contract. He can play on either wing and gets goals and assists in an average team for fun.
This season in 46 games he has 10 goals and 14 assists following on from last seasons return of 12 goals and 9 assists in 47 games. 
 
He has also played as a wing back this season so obviously isn’t the worst defensively which will suit our system considering how much running and work on both sides of the ball you’ve to do.
Positives are he won’t be expensive, he’s coming into his prime years, creates chances aswell as scoring goals and he works hard.

Wish him luck in whatever he does, as long as it’s not here as a player. Would happily take him as a coach or whatever as he does seem like a good influence. It’s just clear he hasn’t got anything left in his legs. 

Went looking for an existing thread on Hourihane but the one I found is locked, as mentioned by @Eoghan1884 in the retained list thread, the Yorkshire Post is linking Hourihane with a return to Barnsley in a player-coach role;

It’s only a short line without much context;

Wait and see I suppose but it’s got the Barnsley tongues wagging on X/Twitter.

i think that makes a lot of sense as Hourihane has made it very obvious he wants to get into coaching ASAP in a lot of interviews he’s done.

You'd get 9 assists playing in a team which scores so many from corners when you take every single one of them. Stats are nothing without context.
Legs have gone, he was a liability. We improved immensely when Warne finally realised it.

Thompson and Sibley are a must surley? They bleed black and white.
 

Versatile player at the peak of his career, plenty of championship experience and a Derby lad. I can certainly get behind that if his wages are reasonable.
