Id try and keep most of the promotion team and add to it. Make adams permanent is a must. Maybe assess where players like hourihane are, i know hes on a fair wage but at the end of the day hes rated by the team and maybe a good rotation player ( still got some quality but legs have gone)

I thought Hourihane was full time coaching at Villa next season...

  2. One relegation season, oppo fans singing "going down, going down, going down" swiftly replied to with "so are we....."

Fans of a certain age will remember "Leeds reserves were better"

He's here, he's there, he's asked us not to swear, John O'Hare, John O'Hare

Blackpool away, their lot started "jump around if you're staying up" which was very quickly taken over by 4000 Rams voices "jump around if you're going down"

THAT season "Let's pretend we scored a goal"

  3. Not graced the Athletic with a visit for ages. Had a look when it started but there were far too many articles lifted from the club site or elsewhere and reworded without dcfc or whichever site it had been blagged from being quoted as the source. Lots of made up stuff littered with could, would, should, ifs buts and maybes for my liking and a distinct lack of real news.

Has it changed? Don't know, don't care. I trust dcfc.co.uk and the rest can do one, in all honesty.

    Close enough.

Point was....he has managed at least one fast start at championship level so shouldn't be out of all possibility.

Absolutely. I don't get why so many look at his two first season relegations but ignore that start to the 22/23 season. I've posted a few times that those relegations are likely to have more to do with the club than PW. After he left to come to us they plummeted to 19th that season and now they've been relegated the season after. The common denominator being RUFC. Fans were saying in 22/23 that both the results and the football was better than their previous 2 SBC seasons. Here's to us getting good results and varied football. Wingers going down the outside and crossing AND also cutting inside and shooting. Some playing the channels and, of course, playing through the middle. All valid tactics and you use them at the correct time in a game. Simple intit?

Maybe - that would have been the Championship decider at the Baseball Ground in May 1972, but I thought the quote I'd read (in an old football annual or DCFC book, I can't recall which) said it was during a game at Anfield the following season or the season after that. If I can find the actual quote, I'll let you know.

1972, that's the one. Smith said he'd never been hit that hard,

Well didn't Paul Warne manage to get a fast start when we took him from Rotherham?

Sure there's a few on here that quote he had them 6th after 8 games or something......

8th after 9 games but with a game in hand on the top 7. Win that GIH and they would have been 5th...

I once saw Colin Todd and Steve Powell nearly snap poor Kevin Beattie in two.

Steve was a tough player. During a game at Anfield, after he'd crunched Tommy Smith, Smith reputedly said to him "you always were a dirty b**t**d Powell". Steve was 18 at the time!

Wasn't that when he was 16? 50/50 ball and he left Smith on the floor wondering what the hell had just hit him?

I believe he's on a decent whack as he got a new contract in September 2020 after his emergence into the first team as a goalscoring number 10 (hattrick v Millwall, bids from Wolves etc) & this being at a time when Morris was still reasonably engaged in the club.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54192055

That said, I've been impressed with him at left wing back & given that is a position that fits into Warne's ideal formation, I would also be offering him a contract. Feels like he's finally found a position that suits his skillset & given his age, I'd expect him to improve over the coming years too. We would have to match his current wages as a minimum but given the increased revenue in the Championship, I think that would be feasible for someone as a first team starter.

This list says he's on £8K a week. How true? No idea...

Sounds like “pie in the sky”. But Florists did get £50 million for Johnson , who had been playing in L1 a couple of years previous . But why oh why did we only manage to get peanuts for Knight and Bird ?

Knight going out of contract and we needed the money to survive. Bird going out of contract looks like he'd decided to spread his wings.

It was great to see Stimac back for the last game

It did get me wondering though ....

Are there any Indian or croatian  players who could be possibilities ?

Is there any Indian investment possible?

Are we getting any better food in the concourses ?

Or was he here on a jolly ..

    Interesting.   .

Partly jollies, for sure, as he stopped by my mate's pub in Henlow for a couple of beers. Combining work and pleasure on his trip? Whyever not?

Including cup games and pre season friendlies I have been to 58 matches and drove just under 7,000 miles and I haven’t been out of the country 😂

I have had a pasty a few times but I’m not sure if they count.

    Impressive Foreveram

  12. I've not had an email so I can't comment on what the club thinks my stats are. Any road up, I've seen 8 games at Pride Park during the 23/24 season. That's around 750 minutes. Seen 7 wins and a draw for a total of 22 points from a possible 24. Travelled some 4500 miles in the process. I did have a balti pie at one of the games so I helped that stat along. Also had a cheeseburger in the concourse at another game, not an experience I'm likely to repeat.

Hopefully, I can equal the above next season... minus the cheeseburger, of course.

Feel that this last part season wasn't the place to judge him, yet still we got glimses. He will need to settle, if he had have been fit and scored first time out then that transition may be shorter. It wasn't, but still he needs a preseason with us, and some real training ground work with his team (that final ball is easier if you know what the other guys is probably thinking).

The only thing I'm not sure about is, I think Warne signed him for a 4-2-3-1, with him, NML, plus 1 in the supporting 3. With 5-3-2 he either has to develop a strong defensive side to take a wing back birth or challenge for a striker role.

That said if we go 3-4-3 there is a place there for him, but that midfield 2 had better have some legs on them, else we are getting overrun.

    Adams (hopefully) and Tommo?

It will be interesting to see what formation PW goes for in the SBC. 352? that would likely see NML in the "2" alongside Collo or Collo's replacement. Did NML's downturn in form coincide with playing up top rather than out wide? If so, will he improve up top in the SBC?

It would likely see Wilson/Ward as RWBs and Sibs/Elder at LWB. Would we need NML/CBT playing a winger role?

So many questions to be answered.

  14. Back to the title of the thread, it seems the retained list will be published either later this week or early next. Once the lads get back from Vegas, those being let go will be told exactly that. Those PW wishes to keep will be offered new contracts. Once it's all sorted, the list will be published. Quite likely the let go list with the addendum that players x, y and z have been offered new contracts....

not having a dig at all,and hope the guy comes good, but he struggled to make the squad in league one,so will he be able to make the jump?i dont know,i just said if i could recoup the money i would and invest it elsewhere

He was carrying an injury when we signed him. Played well against Pompey giving us a glimpse of what he can do. Given rest now to get fully over the injury and then a full pre season should see him back to his best. If he's as good for us as he was for Charlton, no way should we let go.

Do I expect it? Hell, yes, but not yet!!! We have some building to do!

Me 2. Next season would be totally amazing if we were to be up there but it's a tad early for that IMO

I’m not sure - but if that’s all we spent in terms of fees over a season, I can’t understand how anyone can make the case that we are the big spenders of the division

And as you said earlier, the argument that we are based on our wage budget doesn’t really hold up either, as a lot of those players whose wages are filling it up were not signed by Warne anyway!

CBT was out of contract this summer at Charlton. We had no money in the "buy" pot but did have some in the "loan fee" pot. We paid a £300K loan fee and he's a DCFC player from July 1st when his CAFC contract has expired.

Fortunately, we beat 22 League 1 clubs in the only metric that matters.

And yet, here we are again having a debate about Warne's coaching ability one week after those scenes against Carlisle......

I actually think, from what I observe in games, albeit 80% via RamsTV, and from snippets they show of training that Barker does more of the "hands on" stuff and PW is more the management type, an enabler. Deciding on the direction, making everything necessary to the coaching staff, doing the HR stuff etc. He does do some of the coaching but I get the impression that Barker is the main hands on guy.

I'm not applauding or decrying PW, more looking at it as a team effort. A gaffer who decides who, what, where and how and a staff who implement it.

The team that finished 2nd last year look like they will finish 2nd again this year...why would we not aim that high..must be a possibility..might be hard but hey why not??!!

Promotion should always be the aim. However, not making it isn't necessarily a hanging offence. I want promotion next season. Would love it to happen. Midtable or better would suffice though.

Ipswich? They built over 4 seasons into a team capable of back to back promotions. 2 years ago we had 5 players and no money. We brought in a shedload of players on freebies. 1 year ago we had a bit of a clearout and brought even more in. Today we have 14 players out of contract. Some will retire, some will go back to their parent clubs, some will be let go. We are likely to have an influx of 10 to 12 players again. A million miles away form the Tractors steady build.

Would I like back to back promotions? Hell, yes. Do I expect it? Hell, no.

I think Sky have said that part of the agreement is that Sky are going to be bound to choosing games much further in advance.  Therefore, more games will be shown but much more notice is going to be given for each game.

If this is contractual rather than "agreement", then this might actually work the other way for you - giving more certainty even if times are slightly off.

Correct. I've just been going through the new deal and they have, indeed, said there will be a longer advanced notice of which games will be moved. Home games on a Friday/Saturday and again the following Tuesday sound an interesting prospect for a visit home.

Having said that, even if we're in midtable obscurity, I fully expect we'll have more games moved than most. Each weekend, 5 of the 12 SBC games will be televised live. On average, we can expect each team to have 5/12 of their 46 games televised which is 15, so 7 or 8 of our home games. That, however, is an average. I fully expect at least half of our 23 home games to be televised. Idem ditto away.

20+ games, live on Sky and only available on Sky in the UK and VPNland. All other non UK places will still have access to their club TV service and Sky/football clubs also have a similar thing to iFollow for expats.
