Northampton Town v Derby County

Ledgzins - Did ok, but not much to do. Some ambitious crossfield passes to Naylor.

Brayford - Usual class defending. Slightly rusty going forward.

Naylor - Did ok first half, got caught out ball watching in the second half, but was out of position.

O'Brien - Did the basics well, needs to work on his distribution.

Gokjal? - Looks decent, composed on the ball, had a good battle with Platt. Worth a cheapo contract.

Bailey - Looked neat on the ball, but doesn't do the defensive work needed if playing the Makele role.

Hughes - Looked neat on the ball, but you willed him to take the game by the scruff of the neck

Doyle - Poor first half, much better in the second when he pushed up closer to the CF, 2 great passes and a 25 yd shot

Davies - Created first 3 goals with great crosses, all round play looked better when in the centre 3

Bennett - Best player on the pitch in the first half, much better centrally than out wide

Robinson - Scored 2 and hit the post, looked much better second half when we pushed Doyle closer to him

Subs

Deeney - Rubbish

Buxton - Beckenbauer like class at the back, superb pass to Tyson, not sure if it was hi for the penno

Keogh - Didn't see enough of him really to comment

Hendrick - Did the basics well

Coutts - Looks class on the ball. Not sure if he's defensively good enough to play CM in a 4 4 2

Ward - Looked ok on the ball but made some poor decisions

Tyson - Looked a poor mans Robinson, desperately needs a goal

Very pleasantly surprised with tonights performance, played some very tidy stuff at times.

Positives - OB back defending, Bavies 3 assists, creating chances, Bennett has manned up, Tyson looked very sharp

Negatives - lack of cover at LB, OB distribution has not improved, Bavies set pieces have not improved

Deeney - Rubbish

Haha, as someone who has never seen Deeney in the flesh, could you expand on that? Nigel says he has the best distribution out of our gk's, lies? Not sure why Morchs doesn't get a chance.

Expand on rubbish? Flaps at crosses, second goal went through but can kick a ball 50 yards. So can I.

Was just listening on rams player, Cloughie's looking to sign that swiss lad up quite soon by the soundsof things

Good, in all honesty if we had signed him for a couple of million and he had performed like that I would be excited about the coming season, nay mind on a free and still at a young age.

He has out performed Keogh for me in every single way so far, regardless of where they came from and how much, how old...etc I'd of been disappointed to see him let go.

I agree, ive only seen him play at burton and mansfield (mansfield on ramsplayer) but he seemed very good. I would have no problems if it came to the start of the season and we had him an keogh at the back if im honest.

ah, I'd get rid... 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Him and Tyson will be very good for us this season, i'd put money on it! as will Doyle...

I did point out that he made 3 assists so not really sure what point you are trying to make. Just stands out to me that our 'set piece specialist' is unable to beat the first man on way too many occasions.

I think Tyson looked very sharp and just needs a goal to really set him alight...not literally for those of you that don't like him!

Jury still out on Doyle for me. Does some good things but can also be anonymous for long periods of time, I wouldn't put too much money on him being 'very good'.

Am sure if we put Hendrick in goal he would have the best distribution out of the keepers, doesn't make him a good keeper tho. Mart Poom's distribution was very average, border line poor but he will go down as one of the best keepers Derby ever had. Surely Handling, positioning, claiming crosses, shot stopping, command of the 18 yard box are more important for a goalkeeper than distribution

Morning all, enjoyed myself at the match last night. we have to sign Gjokaj up, thought he was was excellent. Was impressed with Brayford, Bennett, Hughes and Jacobs too. 4-3 flattered Northampton though, we should have won 4-1 but gave two sloppy goals away at the end.

The passing was very good, at times great, at one point sublime (the move in which Theo hit the post). The fact that we were the better team with essentially our reserve line-up is a very good thing. Get a solid LB and a striker (getting to the point where I hope Savies would just p*ss off so we can replace him) and we've got a great team.
