Shackell replacement

Nicky Hunt?

I stand by my statement. After the first 3 months Connolly was dreadful. Saying that, at the time I thought he'd be good signing based his experience so I see Ace's point. I think whoever Nigel brings in will either make him or break him...

Buxton and Obrien are not competent enough to be relied upon for a season, Obrien made a couple of mistakes and was awful, Buxton scored a goal against forest but needed a leader figure at the back to help him. We need two center backs and a left back in my view, Buxton is good for 10-15 games but any more than that and we are pushing it. Obrien looked poor last season and in my view he would need to have made significant progress to be considered for the first team. I hope Clough has an experienced championship center back in his radar.

Yes I know he is young but I thought he did make mistakes and as soon as one happened he lost confidence and problems occurred.

I thought he was pretty steady. Had a few moments but all young players (or just players in general) will do. Was absolutely key to our start, think it's harsh calling him awful. Did you not see his pinpoint pass over the Forest defence at the CG too? 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> Bamboozling Wes Morgan into a false sense of direction leading to a pretty famous goal.... OB is a HERO.

I thought he looked poor at pride park numerous times I wouldn't rely on him for more than a dozen games.

i think you might be in a minority here.

most fans i know thought he did a pretty sound job and did not look out of place at this level.

I would be happy for O'brien to be in our defence for the season, he is a good player IMO. I just hope the injury hasn't effected him.

Remember he had heart sugery a few seasons agao and recovered to play well last season. I know buxton scored against forest and will forever be a legend for that, but I have to say I prefer OB, especially as he'll be one for the future. We definately need a replacement though, not just buxton and OB

Buxton and OB will start the season as first choice. Clough has already said that they are capable along with Naylor. Lelan and Galinsky to gain some first team experience and be on the bench.

I think we will not sign another CB this side of Christmas

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> Hope this isn't true

Well most fans also rejoice over a 12th placed position. Obrien was dropped after 8 games because he was untidy on the ball, nervous and made mistakes which caused problems. If Obrien and Buxton start at center back together for the majority of the season we will conceded a lot of goals.

Check the facts YR

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/134702/mark-o'brien?cc=5739

OB started 15 games in a row after the first game of the season - then went off with a shoulder injury I think it was - missed the Cardiff game then started 2 games after it.

Hardly dropped after 8 games.

Then I think Barker came back didn't he. Yep check here http://soccernet.espn.go.com/player/_/id/4809/shaun-barker?cc=5739

I put it to you that OB wasn't dropped for performances but due to Barker returning to fitness.

But someone gave me statistics that he played 15 games but only started 8 games. I don't know anymore if i am honest on facts and statistics, however I do know I was deeply unimpressed with him and I would be seriously worried if he was part of our first choice center back pairing. Was barker a lot better than Obrien? yes and yet Barker shall not be in the team because he is injured and we shall be relying on a youngster who has little first team experience.

You are back peddling faster than a Tory minister today YR

I for one was impressed with OB - yes he made a few mistakes but so did Shackell the mighty, and Barker the great.

Everyone burst a vessel when Hulse went - he wasn't missed.

Panic not - yet, panic if we have a ***** defence after 6 games.
