We had to wait until Monday 8th May for Wolves v Leeds and Arsenal v Liverpool. Leeds needed a draw, Liverpool a win. It finished 2-1 to Wolves and 1-0 to the Arsenal!

Later it came out that Leeds attempted to bribe Wolves players who basically told them to fook off and gave everything to beat the dirtiest, evilest, most hated team in history.

There was far bigger games back then than the poxy little Manc game last week because going into the last Saturday of the season 4 teams could have won it.

Of course it's all conjecture but I honestly believe if Clough and Taylor had stayed at Derby, Liverpool wouldn't have dominated the scene like they did from '77 onwards.

Sam Longson's got a lot to answer for. That was a team and a half and a privilege to watch.

Even as the season ended most of us thought we would be finishing 3rd TBH!

It's happened twice in the lifetime of anyone born before May 1972.

They've never won the FA or league cup dring my lifetime, but anyone born before May 1946 can't say that.

Now as for the Watney cup, the Texaco cup and the central league championship, we picked those up at the start of the 70s too and are probably the current holders of the first two.

Course, don't get too despondent, there's always the Brian Clough trophy. And......Steve Bloomers still watching!!!! Although John McGovern won us the Championship by scoring against Liverpool, Brian never let him forget that he cost him a cup final by the worst back pass I've ever seen> Who else was at Filbert street for the second replay against Arsenal when he passed it back from the centre of the pitch to Boulton(?) only for George Graham to come from nowhere to score the winner? 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> And I wasn't the only one shedding tears of shock and frustration when we were certain that we had thrown away any hope of winning the league by losing 2-1 at home in a match against Newcastle? 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/angry' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

So even in the best of the glory years it wasn't all sunshine and smiles.

But I wouldn't change one single moment of it all.

Rams we 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wub' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> you!

There's John McGovern behind Taylor. They all had to be smart or the boss would tactfully point out the error of their ways.

Like when he said to Trevor Francis when he paid a million quid for him at Forest on live TV "now, get your hands out of your pockets, keep them out and sign there!" Incredible!

Remember listening to the radio in expectancy of either the DLeeds or Reds taking it.http://www.mightyleeds.co.uk/matches/19720508.htm. If this link worked it should answer the question some young Rams ask. Why the special feeling for DLeeds ? So strike out the flying jackets, chocks away to Ladybower and bring out the bouncing bombs.

"Gary [sprake] states: 'The boss should have believed more in our ability, we could have won most games we played without any outside influence... Perhaps somebody at Derby, with or without Clough's knowledge, offered more than Revie'

I very much doubt it Gary, before my time but did anything like that ever come out about us? Or was it because Cloughie's team was simply unstoppable?

There never was any rumours about Derby attempting to bribe opponents. Just the opposite in fact as we suffered with Juventus buying the ref the following season in the European Cup Semi-final.

Obviously the Italians were better at it than Leeds.
