One of our fans is claiming you've pulled out of the running after we turned down a bid of £575k from you and that Reading are now the favourites.

Personally I think that is absolute ********, it's a 'Twitter Rumour' won't be true but thought I'd brighten up our Monday with mentioning it for you 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

The reason why I think it's *******s is because I'm certain we would accept anything £400k or above. We have a habit of selling players on the cheap, Bradley Johnson who now plays in the prem for Norwich we sold for a paltry £250k.

Steve Howard we once sold for £50k!

Steve Morison, Welsh international and playing for Norwich....product of our youth system, we sold him to Bishops Stortford for about £5.50 and a sausage roll.

It does seem with MJ we are playing hardball like all selling clubs should do really, especially at our level, however anything above £400k IMO bang we will accept it.

If it is true about us pulling out, I can't really blame them. Anything £575000 is a lot of money for a league 2 player, who's untried at league 1, never mind (hopefully) the top of end of the championship. To say that for similar money we could buy a reject from a premiership club like Swansea did for Scott Sinclair

The reason I believe this latest rumour to be untrue is that Northampton Town aren't in any position to play hardball. The player is out of contract and will go to whichever team offers him the best contract is willing to either agree a fee with Northampton or go to tribunal. The last 'high-profile' player to be transfered froM L2 to the Championship was Adam Le Fondre. He went for £350k (why wasn't it to Derby ffs?). I would suggest that this figure marks the ceiling that any tribunal could impose, and given that strikers are always a bit more expensive, I believe that the actual figure would be £300k. If the Cobblers were really being a pain then I think that we would just sign him up and let the tribunal decide.

That said, we might well have pulled out, but it'll be over the players wage demands, especially if Reading have already offered him a contract.

Didn't we get S.Davies via tribunal? How much did we pay for him in the end?

According to Wiki - 'up to £725,000 in compensation. This figure comprises an initial fee of £275,000, an extra £250,000 based on appearances and an additional £200,000 if Derby win promotion to the [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League]Premiership within 3 years'

Tranmere were also a division higher than Northampton.
