Michael Jacobs

Also I would like to say no-one can predict how well he is going to do, or how good in relative terms he actually is.

Ben Davies was the top boy in the lower divisions, much better record and reputation than Jacobs and hasn't exactly been a world beater, certainly not as bad as people make out however!

I'm worried, he has a lot of hope pinned on his shoulders when in actual fact he should be brought to be expected as a squad player, who we can hope to bring on and improve. The expectation seems far too large for a player who hasn't played above league 2.

COBBLERS player of the year Michael Jacobs is on the brink of sealing a dream big-money transfer to npower Championship club Derby County.

The 20-year-old is expected to be officially unveiled as a Rams player tomorrow, with the player reportedly undergoing a medical at Pride Park today.

Town and Derby have agreed a fee for Jacobs, meaning there will be no need for a tribunal, which will be a relief for Derby boss Nigel Clough who has gone on record stating he wanted to get the deal done as quickly as possible.

Jacobs recently turned down a new contract offer to stay at Northampton, and the club have reluctantly been forced to cash in on the player.

It is understood the fee, which will remain undisclosed, will not surpass the club record £525,000 fee received for goalkeeper Mark Bunn from Blackburn Rovers in September, 2008.

Jacobs made 100 senior appearances for the Cobblers, making his debut as a substitute in the opening game of the 2010-11 season at Torquay United, scoring 15 goals.

It is absolutely the correct move for Crackers and epitomises the level headed character he is, there were other options for Jacobs and he could have earned more money elsewhere but the lad wants to play football and be treated well, hence his decision to join The Rams.
