New Pride Plaza Plans Submitted

You raise some good points there rammieib.

If they do build an arena - would it be big enough (the proposed area doesn't seem that huge) to even compete with Nottinghams - and as you say, is it really needed?

The down side is this runs the risk of becoming a white elephant for the club doesn't it? If they don't get the revenue, no money will be ploughed back in and that's bad news for the whole club.

Isn't it also true that the plans include quite a lot of office space? I hope business' in Derby seriously take this on board and "move in" as it were, otherwise it's just going to stand empty like the Egg building across the road. Why would they relocate to PP when there's so many others empty and have been for a while now? Not sure about this one.

Here's my proposal. Level the proposed land, plonk loads of tables and chairs on it, build a proper boozer (not some bistro with a trendy fookin roof garden), and a giant screen showing Derby's best matches. Folk have somewhere to sit, something to watch and reminiss about, and a pint. And all before KO. Sorted. They have done something similar at City of Manchester stadium. When i went to watch Take That there I was really impressed with the set up. They had a couple of bars and and cafes under huge canopies with big screens up playing Take That stuff (obviously not take that on a matchday, lol) and they had built a ticket office and shop there too. Looked good and created a great atmosphere there which I can imagine it does at the football too.

Have they Jess? I've never been there but it sounds great, something a lot of people would enjoy.

I bet Take That were fab too 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

It's a 7,000 seater isnt it? The nottingham arena can hold 10,000, not sure if that accomadates for people standing/ ground floor, so maybe it could be similarly sized? Better then the assembly rooms that holds like 2,000!

Just tried to chech out how many seats its going to be but 3 different pages on the bbc seem to offer totally different results :s

Why on Earth does the club think this development will bring students to the area? Why is a student living on the other side of town going to think - I know a convenience store and a restaurant on Pride Park - lets get two busses there!

I think that part is aimed at the student accommodation they just built next to the train station

According to the dates of those articles, it's been in the pipeline since 2009,(article 3 as you look down the list) with confirmation in August this year (article 1) It all looks very smart though and quite sizeable so I'm guessing a large chunk of the car park will go, which might not affect matchday parking as from what I've seen, there's always quite a few empty spaces towards the far end.

I'd still like to see a communal outdoor area though.

At a meeting held last night Derby City Council's Planning Control Committee gave the go ahead to The Plaza @ Pride Park development proposals.

Councillors backed the scheme, which is adjacent to the stadium and is designed to be the focal point of the Pride Park area.

The Plaza @ Pride Park development shall see land on the South West and North East corners of the stadium converted to a mixture of restaurants, cafes, bars and convenience stores. Over 2000sqm of office space and a new public space also form part of the granted plan. The Plaza @ Pride Park has also been designed to work in tandem with plans submitted by the council for its 'Multi Sports Arena'.

Commenting on the decision, Derby County Chief Executive Tom Glick said: "This is excellent news and we are delighted that the Council have fully backed proposals which will bring long term benefits to Pride Park, the City and also to our Club.

"As I have said previously, the revenues this scheme will hopefully generate can only help to make Derby County more competitive on the pitch in seasons to come.

"I would like to thank everybody at the Council who has supported our application.

"With the planning consent now granted, we can move forward into the next stage of the process, which will begin by engaging with prospective development partners. After this we will need to go to the marketplace to secure the commitment of potential end tenants before construction can begin."

yeah, ive been to the etihad before and it has an outside bar - really busy but nice. Also has a big screen so they put some big away games on there. Obviously that's easier for city as theyre on TV more than us.

I like the fact that this will tie in with the FFP rules and will give us a bit more scope, I don't see the FFP sticking around for long, will only take a heavyweight from the premiership with big wages to be relegated and moan like ****, until it's reversed..West Ham are trying their hardest and it isn't even introduced yet 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

A £7m investment in the squad isn't guaranteed to return money within a year, Fester have spent double that and probably won't reach the automatic spots this season.

Pride Park is a lucrative business area for retail. 12,000 people are in and around the area on a daily basis, people with jobs and cash who have money to spend. So cafes and shops will make money.

But, as YR said, I'm concerned turning the stadium into a retail park could be selling the stadium's soul. There is already a Starbucks and a Greggs for goodness sake.

if the bars/cafes/restauarants come off i think it will improve the feel of the stadium on match days and non matchdays - the general experience will be enhanced particualrly with fans able to be in and around the stadium together earlier
