RotherhamRam
Now we are seeing players coming into the club and who we are linked with. Last yr we started with the 4231 formation but without the right players not always suitable. At the end of the season we saw 442 and 433 formations. The players brought in so far as seen a potential of a number of formations being utilised as players in around side and squad can play in a couple of formations and not weaken the side. The 4231 formation The Goalkeeper and defence if we get Shackell and keep Roberts picks it self Fielding, Brayford, Shackell, Barker © and Roberts The two holding midfielders will be Bryson and Bailey with Pearson as backup The three attacking players can be one of the following (assuming we buy maguire) Maguire, Tyson, Ward, Cywka, Robinson, Ben Davies, Doyle The loan striker will be Steve Davies and if we sign the lad Rooney Now the 433 formation Defence will be the same The three midfielders will be Pearson, Bailey and Bryson (unless we get another midfielder) Ward can drop into here if one of these three missing, Ben Davies, Doyle The three attackers Any of Ward, Tyson (CF), Maguire, Cywka, Robinson The beauty of this formation and players if winning 1-0 then can drop back to 4231 and put more in midfield but the players allow for attacking on quick break and to pass the ball around whilst overloading midfield which is Plan B. The 442 formation Defence again the same Midfield Ward, Bailey, Bryson and Cywka with Ben Davies/Doyle/Maguire at a push Attacking Tyson and Maguire, Rooney (if we sign him) and Steve Da vies, Robinson, (any of the midfielders except for Ben Davies) This squad of players without substitution can move into the 4231/442/433 formation depending on the game with players being in strong positions. Further to this if a player comes off or playing poorly a player can come onto the pitch and just slot into the team without shuffling the team or affecting them to much. Clough now has a plan A,B and C its great Hope we sign Shackell and Rooney. Lb would be nice one that can play both FB positions to cover Brayford if injured. Positive feeling a lot of pace, young players mixed with experience and the team has leaders in the side and our young players in the squad and team have proven themselves last yr. p.shilton
It's looking like 4-2-4 the way the signings have gone!
WorksopRam
It's looking like 4-2-4 the way the signings have gone! I know you're joking but, in terms of types of players, that could work much the sane as 4-2-3-1. Both use four attacking players. Sorry.

I thought bryson was more attack minded
Gary Teale
I think clough will return to 442, it's what he played at Burton and what he wanted to play here apart from we didn't have the players, he has got a load of front men in now and has said Tyson will be playing trough the middle and he won't be a loan striker
RotherhamRam
I thought bryson was more attack minded he is a player who can play defensively but with the formation the problem was with Sav as he was not fit enough he could not link up the midfield with the attacking 3 which meant Bailey had to try and cover both. With this formation and Bailey and Bryson can now link up and defend at the same time. Bryson good around the box and can score there has been times where Bailey could have shot or scored but because he was more defensive minded did not take them, where has Bryson can not help with this role and will be able to attack the box just like Bowyer used to but without the attitude
rynny
We will use all 3 of them in pre season and end up playing 7-2-1 1st game against West Ham then revert to the more attacking formation of 6-2-2 against Peterborough in the second game of the season. We will change it that much that the players can't remember what formation we are playing and all just stand on the half way line against forest, with exception of Fielding and Tyson, Tyson scores in the the 5th and fielding doesn't have to touch the ball except for goal kicks and we win 1-0, the wolly with the brolly complains to the FA saying we didn't play fair and he is laughed out of the country again, leaving his post that everyone knew he couldn't meet the expectations of the deluded fans
Derby_Dave
I'm going for 4-6-0. Certainly did France well when they won the world cup.
Ambitious
No chance of us playing 4-4-2, we still don't have wingers unless we're going to play Martin and Croft for the new season I think either back to 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 which I much prefer over 4-4-2 anyway, we'll just have to wait and see! Gary Teale
I think he will play ward left side cutting in onto his right, just as he had the lad at Burton do, what he had teale doing and I normally don't compare but what is dad had with Hinton and Robinson. I heard from one of the coaching staff during a game of golf its back to 442 and sometimes 433. It's all his players and his way of playing now on
ramsbottom
4-3-3. So with those we have signed already, or expecting to, it will look something like this - .......................Fielding Brayford.......Barker......Shackell.......Roberts .......Bryson......Eustace.......Bailey McGuire.............Tyson...............Ward
NorfolkRam
if we get waghorn i would expect tyson to go right side and waghorn center
England Ram
4-3-3. So with those we have signed already, or expecting to, it will look something like this - .......................Fielding Brayford.......Barker......Shackell.......Roberts .......Bryson......Eustace.......Bailey Tyson.............Waghorn...............Ward Bench: McGuire, Anderson, Robinson, Addison, Cywka, Green, Davies S, Davies B, Doyle, Suddenly not looking too bad. Although defence seems to be a bit light, particularly the left back slot. And it is also the weakest link in the starting 11 as well.
NorfolkRam
I think once Maguire and Waghorn are in attack is sorter, get shot of ratty and deeney and get burtons stopper in and GK is done, midfield with Eustace and Green back fit should be strong enough (maybe a short term loan till Jan to cover) defence lacks depth and LB is a problem, but who knows they may be looking to cover that. UTR.93
with a new midfielder hopefully looking to be brought in i can see the 4-3-3 formation used which is highly effective when you have the right players to play this which we seem to be doing.. So far!
ramsbottom
I think Waghorn might lack a little presence to go through the middle on his own but maybe Nige is planning on going all Barcelona on us and play with 3 shorties up top constantly interchanging positions. David Silva & Pedro barely reach 5"10 and Messi is a midget a'la Ward. Food for thought??? Of course i jest, Messi isn't half the player Ward is
