Why I've been quiet...

Bristol Ram

Recommended Posts

Ok, so regulars will know I've not been posting much lately.

Part of this is down to a new job and a new baby, but there was a time that I'd have found the time around these things. Not any more.

To be honest, I've got a bit sick of the constant negativity and bitching on here. I joined hoping for some fun chat and banter about the Rams, and for a while that's what it was like. But as more people joined, it started to get nasty and everytime I posted someone jumped on it and called me some unpleasant name or other.

And other people's negativity has started to rub off on me. I started to question every player, every signing, Nigel... the whole lot, because every single person connected with the club gets hammered on here. I don't want to be one of those 'supporters'.

And to top it all, some good contributors (like Alex W) get banned for something that people who've been around since before the DET closed get away with scot-free.

It really is becoming a bit of a joke. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this.

I'll still have a look in from time to time, might post occasionally (if I don't get banned for this rant!) but I think it's a shame that a good forum that people like daveo have worked hard on is being ruined by those that only want to bitch, fight and moan.

Didn't realise Alex was banned. Did wonder where he went though what did he do? Pm. Me.

I know what you mean though and I think its largely don't to the det atmosphere finding its way here. Plus this place is on of the first forums Derby fans go to and these are bad times but I've felt the sane recently so I have times when I don't post or simply ignore the blindly negative or childish remarks so posters make.

Shame really but its like the det. When we win things will be happier.

Very much agree. I've been becoming ever tempted to post something similar.

And on top of this, there seems to be a bit of a two-tier hierarchy, with one rule for one member and another for another.

Not sure what it is, but over the past month or so, things have certainly changed.

Maybe the influx of mods has increased the tension a bit?

Agreed about things changing if we get a win, the essence of forums is that they are reactive entities as Norfolk pointed out, we always take insults to members seriously, a fun jovial site was always the intention on here and out and out hatefull and nasty personal insults will be acted upon.

Three or four wins on top of the slight improvement in form recently and the feel good factor will return.

Hope to see you posting on here soon.

Alex W banned....wow I missed that as well.

Thats a few bannings I've missed now.

Its like an Agatha Christie whodunnit....everytime I log on theres another body.

I expect that by the end we'll all be gathered together to hear Monsieur Boycie explain how it all happened and how he worked it out using his little grey cells.

alternatively somebody feel free to pm me ...i'm missing everything.

RamNut: i presume recent bannings have been for PM's as I've not seen anything really offensive on the board (apart from me to forest wums but that should be allowed anyway). Haha, Boycie as Poirot! Miss Marple more like.:D

Brizzle: Keep posting mate, we need positive people otherwise only the wristslashers get heard. The results are dire so its inevitable that most posts are doom and gloom.

I think when people are just insulting someone for the sake of it then action should be taken. Calling someone a Pr@t every now and then isn't the end of the world though and I think leniency needs to be used sometimes. I can accept though that itshard to call it in the middle but I think you can tell from alot of posters who may have had a bad day and need physically banning for 24hours to cool off.

Young ram springs to mind. I didn't agree with near enough anything he said and constantly argued with him but never malicious in anyway and wouldn't have expected him to be banned.

Same with Alex, I know he annoyed some miserable cvnts on here by being more positive than anyone I've ever known but I didn't think he was malicious unless he had a bad day which we all have.

That being said I don't see as much and when little bitches complain you can really say 'man up'

Look guys I'm sorry if you feel the bannings are harsh but we've made it very clear that you respect other members opinions without the namecalling. It's been like that since day 1 on here and it's not going to change I'm affraid, if you cannot get your point across without calling someone a **** or whatever then this isn't the forum for you.

Yes there has been some bannings recently, some permanent and some temp, and no we don't treat all members the same. We try to give the benefit of the doubt to members that have been on here longer than what we would a new member.

Myself, Boycie and the mods do our best to be fair. Alot of offending posts are pulled pretty quickly which probably leads to the confusion of why he's been banned etc.

Alex was on a Yellow, he was even on a Yellow when we made him a mod! he's been in the mod room, he knows how it works and what we won't stand for. A couple weeks ago he got into some petty namecalling again, he was asked to take a 2 week cooling off period and nothing would be mentioned on the forum. This 2 week period would of been up on Friday but he decided to come back and post on Sunday I think it was.

His ban has been extended now to 3 months and it's been done through the banning system, he's more than welcome to come back after the ban his up.

Young Ram, where do I start. What you have to understand is Young Ram was on here well before the DET shut down, he's had more lives than a cat. He's been warned, yellow carded, warned and warned again, 2 week cooling off period, and yellow carded again.

Since his ban he has come back under different usernames, with some terrible excuses, Young Ram won't be coming back.

I used to spend alot of time on here & used to post on a daily basis unfortunately since the closure of the det this has become a very negative forum with every thread in the rams talk section ending up in personal insults, a get nige out or a get the board out debate and all the threads just seem to go round in circles with the same people having the same arguments over & over again. I still occasionaly post in off topic, entertainment & transfers as they aren't so bad

Brizzle,

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out --

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out --

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out --

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me -- and there was no one left to speak for me.

Martin Niemoller.

Come back brizzle, mate. I hear that there's a new Matchday Live coming up for us folk who live far,far away. :D

My rule for keeping out of trouble(sort of) is to post only when i'm at work. No real arguments during the day, and you miss the knee-jerk reactions to a result Saturday night/Sunday.

Whilst i'm on the subject......Daveo, underneath my avatar i've written "the forums 9-5", but the forum bit has been asterixed as if i've swore?

If somebody is asked to stay off the forum for 2 weeks and nobody will be told about it, you may have thought that you would stay off the forum for 2 weeks.

The alternative was a ban. A justified ban after numerous warnings.

We used to pride ourself with having a happy forum were you could take the pee out of each other without dummies being thrown.

Our club is going through a rough time on and off the field, this is obviously going to spill onto the forum from time to time. There will be a lot of Forest fans embedded with in this forum at this time, it's only natural with the position of the two clubs at the moment.

Banter is how this forum was born. It started as "Halfway House" a mix of Derby and Forest fan getting on well together, there was a few mix ups yes, but that's where this forum started, "Banter"

Now, as Daveo has stated, name calling etc will not be tolerated. Why would you say something to a member on here that you would say to his/her face in the pub? I agree some people are in your face when they are not on a forum, but ask yourself this, would you spend time with them? So why should we ask the majority of members to put up with an abusive bully? (I'm not talking about any specific member)

The ignore button is there in your control panel for a reason, the trouble is, some people wont use it because as much as they hate what a poster says, they still want to read it. Why would you?

The "report" button is also there for a reason. If enough people report a member, then the mod room will be alerted to it and we can look at what to do about it.

So, people aren't banned for no reason, if you would like the reason for a ban, pm a mod. Please don't ask on a thread.

Thanks.

I really appreciate the mods stance on this. The det forum got so full of nasty arguments, I read it much less.

Also, in 4 years on that forum I only posted about 20 times, because people just went for you if your opinion differed.

The other pain on there were the constant theads pro or anti Rams Trust- hopefully it won't get to that on here!

So, thankyou, mods, for keeping this a friendly forum whilst allowing really good debate on various topics. :)

It's this bit that's getting to me.

Why should a fully-fledged, long-term member who is fully aware of the rules and ethos of the forum get away with disparaging comments, whilst a new member, unaccustomed to the board who may be still used to things on the DET gets slapped with a ban?

Like I've previously said, it seems to be highly hypocritical of several members on here.

I've certainly toned the insults down on here, just no need for it; from new or longstanding members.

Can I ask the reasoning behind 'footymadme' being banned, or should I PM someone?

Was he given two yellows, and what for?

Cheers

He asked to be taken off the forum, after receiving a PM from a mod asking him to cool the off topic rants that he was doing at the time.

We carried out his own wishes.

PM any other questions regarding individual cases please.

Okay.

Can you explain the first part of my previous post please?
