I think the system we have works well, only try scoring is subjected and only if the ref calls for a review. The ref has to signal try or no try and any doubt will go to the refs original decision. As well the captains can have 1 on field review and if successful retain that view. Get it wrong and no reviews left, same as cricket reviews. All reviews are broadcast on the screens and video refs are miked up explaining their decisions (extra revenue as reviews are sponsored by KFC)

With the NFL, the ruling on the field stands unless it is a clear and obvious error.

If we must have VAR, let them watch the replay, in real time, a maximum of two times and if they can’t tell, then it’s not clear and obvious, so go with the original ruling.

You can do that before they have lined back up for the centre, so it doesn’t impinge on the timing of the game.

With regard to the time it takes to reach a VAR decision at times, I have long held the view that if they can't find a reason to overturn a decision within 30 seconds then any mistake by the officials is neither clear nor obvious and the original decision should stand.

Personally think it should work like cricket, captain can call for a VAR review if they believe there was an offside or foul in build up etc.

Human error happens, we all know that. The concept of VAR works, just currently the implementation is what is not working.
