Wtf? Nearly £2million a year for that jug eared crisp muncher? Whose specialist subject is Leicester City and can't even get his predictions right for them?

Havent watched match of the day since I dont know when. What a complete waste of my licence money.

I expect his numbers will pale into insignificance if they ever get to disclose amounts paid to independent production companies who basically provide the stars.

Graham Norton 850k excluding his ubiquitous chat show. Lot of cash.

Like other professionals tho - it's not what they earn at a moment in time but how that is changing over time which is important.

Corbyn doesn't like it and he is right on this.

Won't lose any sleep over it but you have to question how can they justify that kind of salary, Chris Evans as well.

Should cap it at 149k a year then there is no need to publish wages, still a cushty job that is

He said himself he could have moved for much more. It's a fine balance for the BBC paying enough to keep people there so they don't get poached. A lot of people that work for the BBC stay there because it is something they believe in, something rare in the modern age.

BBC wages have stayed pretty stagnant over the last 5 years of cuts and only a select few earn the big bucks. It probably is too much but that's the crazy capitalism we live in these days. We allow it to happen.

All well and good but if as it says you are going to cap pay at 300 odd grand then the BBC will lose their top people to other channels.

Some might say it doesn't matter and don't rate the likes of lineker, but clearly a lot of people must do, they don't become high earners for nothing.

But a lot of people do. As do a lot of people listen to Chris Evans.

Restrict the pay and MOTD will be presented by Adrian Chiles and viewing figures will plummet.

I think Corbyns ratio policy works for non 'celebrity' employees but for those on screen it will always be treated differently.

Without knowing the wages that commercial broadcasters pay their presenters/journalists I think it's pointless really. Comparing the two would be a better way of gauging if the BBC gets value for money.

2 wrongs don't make a right.

If the BBC want to compete with other broadcasters, lower the TV licence and bring on the ads.

Or are they not confident of selling ads on the crap they stick out?

for all of his smugness and affiliation with Leicester, Lineker is a very good presenter. I think as a world we should be more concerned with those we don't ever hear about skimming their money off the top of everything. The ones pulling the financial strings and creating all the corrupt insurance rises and recessions etc, not a bloke cracking crap jokes.

Well as the starter of this thread I can honestly say I don't fall into either category. I don't want to denigrate the Bbc although it's clearly not what it was. And I'm not thunderously self righteous. I just don't rate Gary Lineker at all, so for him and Chris Evans to be topping the list of BBC's high earners just seems ridiculous.

With a few exceptions ( wimbledon) The BBC doesn't do live sport anymore. That's sad, Blame sky and Rupert Murdoch or whatever if you want. I wish bbc  did live sport but they don't. So why should lineker , a second rate chat show host , be paid such a huge salary?

This could be the boot up the Arse the BBC needs to make them realise that supporting Jezzerbell will be their downfall.

I don't understand this post.

I think it's right that the BBC should publish salaries of higher earners just as private companies do. And right that people should question the salaries that are paid.

But who is Jezebel? Do you mean corbyn? Did the BBc support him, some said not at least Laura kuhnsberg didn't allegedly. Anyway what does that have to do with linekers salary?
