Best eleven since 1970s...

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I know it's been done a number of times over the years but one extra can't hurt!

As the title suggests, just name your best starting eleven since the 1970s (as most of the picks would be fairly obvious otherwise!) Loans and players who have only played a handful of games both acceptable. If they have appeared they are eligible!

Any formation you like. I'm not going to say that you had to have seen them play live. Plenty of clips and footage available even if you haven't (although I realise it's not the same)

If it's proving especially difficult I'll allow a seven player bench!

Mine will be posted as soon as I'm able...

Seeing that I was born in the mid 80's, this isn't fare - and to think the rest are born in the 90's like Daveo - so i'll pass on this.

Fair enough, I understand. Just a bit of fun to alleviate the pre season boredom. It doesn't have to be the definitive team. If you don't feel comfortable sticking players in you don't remember no biggie. Just go with the best you've seen mate...

                     Poom

Eranio.  Wright.    Stimac.   Forsyth (Michael)

Micklewhite.  Asanovich.  Carsley.  McMinn.

       Goddard.      Saunders.

subs:

Taylor (gk)

Macgrath

Callaghan

Powell (Chris)

J Laurson

Bobby D

Kinkladze

I think that with those players and subs we would be able to get several different formations if needed due to injuries or change of tactics.

Not MAny 70's so far

For Me

Poom

Eranio, MacFarland, Todd, Powell

Thorne

Gemmill, Idiakez

Hector Strupar Sturridge

Shilton

Stimac

Rioch

Asanovic

Baino

Hughes (Will or Billy ?) Can't make my mind up!!

I wondered why there were none from the 70s, but then re-read it as being 1980 onwards.

I'd like to edit my team:

Baiano to replace Kinkladze on the bench.

Love these threads - you get to remember all the great players we've had down the years that somehow slip from memory. Always makes me wonder how the teams of the 70s and 80s would have fared against the teams from later decades. So many fantastic players...
