Official: Will Hughes joins Watford

Midfield options

Thorne - unbuyable unless fitness is proven

Baird - last club most likely

Johnson - nobody will pay high enough fee

Hanson - not proven anything yet

Bryson - probably not got a massive value

Butterfield - doubt we would recoup the money

Hughes is the only midfielder that is a saleable asset to the club. If his contract included provisions for accepting PL interest, plus high wage which is highly possible, plus a fairly average season, plus not overly impressing GR, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that he is going.

A £4.5m cash payment, rising to £7m, plus potential sell-on fee for a player who has, it's fair to say, stalled a little over the last 2 seasons, is just about acceptable.

The end of last season saw lots of people saying the squad needs shaking up, no one is unsellable, etc ,etc. Well that's what is happening. You can't force clubs to take players you don't want!

I cannot believe the meltdown going on here - Do people realise how crap we've been for 3 seasons? You need to get a grip some of you, things have to change and it will be the best deal available, we can't sell Will for £20m if nobody is offering it.

4 mill rising to 8 mill ,,is the extra rising 4 mill the wipe out of money owed on vydra / anya? Sounds more like it to me ,,,

sad day for us as Hughes raised our profile and kind of became an iconic figure with the albino look and the cheeky youthful talent

The only conceivable scenario is if Will had refused to sign a contract unless they inserted a 4.5m release fee. (Seeing our complete lack of vision, and lack of cohesion, it would be understandable if he wanted out). Knowing he would leave come the summer, that would then explain everything else - GR not playing him, and then letting him leave for a pittance.

Otherwise, someone needs to answer for this utter travesty.

Us fans, the journalists etc know nothing about on going negotiations. All the knee-jerk reaction is ridiculous. Tell you what let's get 30,000 of us at our first home game to boo all game. That will show the club not to mess with us.

Ps. It's not my money but why do you think a successful business man would undervalue anything.?

Just like normal then? They'd be more worried if we cheered and applauded all game ?

It's odd to think that, in a quest to find a more stable, cohesive club...Will Hughes decides to join manager-a-year Watford
