Van der MoodHoover
We're all violently agreeing the idea has merits . So.....4411 for the season it is then, along with copious psychological coaching so we're better able to "hang in there" when we're not playing well. If that transpires then although it's still a 46 game season I sense it will feel a lot longer. .....

I don't think we have enough wingers to play 4-4-1-1 currently. It is quite clear we aren't going back to 4-3-3 because Pearson appears bullish to me and is known not to like 4-3-3. In pre season a number of us suggested a 3-5-2 formation because this formation doesn't rely on wingers. This formation also allows us to have the control in midfield as well as having 2 strikers. I don't think we gave it enough time in pre season personally as we only used it for 30 minutes against a quality Benfica side. When Leicester were struggling in the prem, Pearson changed the formation to 3-5-2 and it worked brilliantly, ultimately keeping Leicester up. Could this formation be our gem? I'm an advocate of a 3-2-2-2-1 formation myself... Played it for a while on FM back in the day (I know, I know... Booooo Football games...)... However I don't think we now have enough CBs for 3 at the back now (unless you use Fozzy as a LCB?) Something like: GK CB CB CB RWB LWB CM CM RF LF ST
JW37
I'd be up for 3 at the back. Pearson wants 2 up front and likes Ince centrally But we don't have the midfielders for a flat 4 With no signings: Carson Keogh Pearce Shackell Christie Thorne Olsson Bryson Hughes Martin Ince Wingbacks can get forward more Gets the control of the midfield back with Bryson/Hughes not having to track back as much Gives Thorne 6 forward passing options Still gives you 2 up front

SkeggyRam
Rawson as the middle CB for me if we went 3 at the back
Gary Teale
It worked well for 30mins against Benfica. So well Pearson hasn't played it since

Not aware how much he has worked with our team in training with 352 but I don't think only playing it for 30 mins in our first pre season match against vastly superor opponents is enough to base a season long appraisal on. In any case, didn't we get our bottoms spanked even worse against benfica when we changed away from the 352?
Sexydadbod
Bump. I was willing to give the new formation time but after seeing it in action for more than a month, I think a change of formation might be needed. If it's true that Bamba is close to signing that will give us the option to play 3 at the back. Here's the team I suggest(bare in mind I made this thread before the new signings arrived): Carson Keogh Pearce/Shacks Bamba Christie Bryson Johnson Anya Hughes Ince Vydra
kingsy1884
3 at the back can look pretty but name me 1 team in England that had used it to success in recent times. If you want protection go 4-3-3. 3 at the back will never work.

But the big problem I can foresee is the Lcb needs have a yard of pace to cover the wing back and be somewhat savvy on the ball . The only player at the club who would remotely fit this bill is forsyth but he's injured.
