Derby County defender Craig Forsyth has been named in the WhoScored.com Championship ‘Team of the Season’ for the 2014/15 campaign.

WhoScored.com is a unique website, specialising in the in-depth analysis of detailed football data. Provided with unique stats, they compile and create comprehensive analysis on the major European divisions, as well as providing data on over 500 leagues and 15,000 teams.

Left-back Forsyth made 51 appearances in total for Derby during the 2014/15 season. He scored once, during the 4-0 win over Birmingham City at St Andrew’s on Boxing Day.

The Scotland international is the latest Rams player to earn an accolade this season after Chris Martin was named sixth in the Sky Bet Championship’s top ten players list, followed by Richard Keogh being selected in the PFA Championship Team of the Season.

There are lies, damned lies and statistics. This is what happens when you look at statistics.

There is so much going on here.

First of all, if you switched round our start and our finish to the season, everyone's opinion on the team would be completely different despite the fact their performance over the season would have precisely the same impact. So while we've been crap for the past two months, this "team of the season" is going to account for...well...the entire season.

Forsyth has been brilliant more often than not. Ritchie had to swap wings against us at home, and he's been good defensively in the LB position all season. When he's on form, he's good going forward too.

He put in some car crash performances at CB but I'm sure this doesn't take that into account. And rightly so. It's not relevant to how good he is at LB.

There aren't too many good left backs in this league anyway.

Only Left Backs close to Forsyth are George Friend at Boro and Tyrone Mings at Ipswich.

A lot of fans opinion of Forsyth has dropped this season due to him having to play CB in some games which is unfair. Also he hasn't had a consistent CB in Bucko next to him. Partnerships and consistency of selection are key to a good defence. Forsyth has done well this season although the last 10 games he has struggled.

Who would you have in at left back then?

George Friend maybe?

I think Forsyth is a good left back, but I can't say he's had a good enough season to be considered the best in the league. He was truly awful at centre back, but that's McClaren's fault for playing a converted midfielder there when we had fit defenders sat on the bench and in the reserves.

Can't say I've seen enough of Friend to really add anything to the statistical analysis of WhoScored. It's quite easy to say Forsyth isn't the best LB in the league when you see him week in week out and the rest twice a season though. You're bound to see more of his mistakes and unfortunately, for defenders at least, these tend to be far more memorable than all the solid work he does up and down our left hand side.

I'm not going to definitively say he's the best LB in the league because I don't see enough of the other players to form that opinion. I don't think there'd be too many arguments about the rest of that team though so I reckon their stats can't be too badly weighted.

Forsyth has been brilliant for 80% of the season. It's no coincidence his passing accuracy dropped once Martin got injured as he always makes himself available, whereas Bent doesn't. I also believe we'd struggle to find a better replacement at this level due to the lack of quality LBs in England.

Forsyth is a premier league class defender with the football ability of a league two player.

How Watford had him down as a winger is laughable.

I can't remember a time where I thought this winger has got the beating of Forsyth. He's so solid defensively that I think he could be an asset at a higher level.

Warnock just highlights how good of a Championship left back Forsyth is.

I think Forsyth's defending has come on brilliantly this season.

His attacking has dropped off a little, but I'd say that has more to do with management instructions and the make-up of the team.

He also provides real aerial prowess and the 'out-ball' from defence.

He's also superbly fit.

Yet he misplaces more passes than any other player. Until recently I was sure that his positives easily outweighed his one negative. But recently I've started to question that. Can a side going for automatic promotion afford a player who, despite contributing a lot, gifts the opposition about five goals a season through silly mistakes? At this point I'm 50/50.

Hey I'm not trying to say the award given to Fozzy is wrong. All I'm saying is that the awarder is a statistics based website and stats never tell the full story.

Having said that, it's been a real change for him this season. Last season Wisdom would often sit back while letting Fozzy go forward. This season it initially started with Fozzy sitting back and letting Christie go forward. Then it sort of went like the shape of a fruit.

Now if we get Wisdom back...

Forsyth has been a beast of a defender for most the season. So strong, great in the air, rapid.

Imagine if he was as good going the other way. Seriously imagine.

In that Wembley season we saw how good he could be for a short while. Those crosses, that width and pace.

The most frustrating Derby player by miles.

That Mings looks similar. Defensive beast but a bit of a hoofer?

Friend better than both going forward but slightly more beatable? Would that be fair?

Ambitious quote "Forsyth is a premier league class defender with the football ability of a league two player." Lol. Spot on.
