In one sentence: why do you think our form has dropped?

We're quite an average team without our key players (Martin, Hughes, Thorne) and we just didn't win 4 or 5 key games that we should've done.

or

Mclarens off to Newcastle and his indifference to Derby, since signing for toon has created disharmony in the squad.

or

We've been unlucky with injuries and refereeing decisions

or

a Gypsy curse was put upon Pride Park when it was first built and this meant that DCFC will never flourish as a successful footballing outfit

or

Richard Keoghs wife....or something...

Who knows!

Who cares.

Despite the current malaise, it's still been our best season for almost 20 years!!

Injuries have played a part, but I also think teams know how to play against us now. They know if they play a high tempo pressing system we cannot deal with it ,yesterday was another example.

Boro games, Norwich game, Brentford twice, Watford, last 5 minutes of the Birmingham game...........

Because martin and beent got injured virtually at the same time, and we didnt have a replacement, and because defensively we started making individual errors particularly in the full back positions.

I agree with half of that.

We DID have replacements for Bent and Martin. A fair few of them. But what we didn't have was a replacement for the style of play that Martin suited. If SM and Co had played a formation to the strengths of Johnny Russell, Jamie Ward, Tom Ince, then we could have 3 very good championship strikers right there. Instead he played a 2 foot midget with lightning pace as the holding striker and had balls pinged about 2 foot above his head.

Chris Martin got injured for pretty much the first time since McClaren joined: he's a goal scorer, a goal creator, a target man, great in the air, even better with his feet, strong but not slow, intelligent, cunning our team's focal point and basically irreplaceable for the way our squad is set up.
