Russell is very poor in the target man role

We only were a threat after Kwame came on last night.

Russell needs to play wide and please shoot at the goal when you have the chance.

  • Russell did a good job against Birmingham anyway. That CF role wasn't the problem. Not seen anything of Thomas to suggest he would be significantly better.

Thomas has done nothing to "deserve" a start at all, nothing at all....5 appearances, a red card and no goals for Notts County........wow....yep..he is the answer GET HIM IN...!!!

It's not Russell's role but he's been asked to give it a go and he's put his body on the line for the cause fair play to the lad.

Regarding Thomas, it's a big ask for a young lad to lead the line when the team are struggling, he came on last night and did o.k.

Mac has some big calls to make on Friday as we need a result.

I cannot agree that now is the time to start playing untried academy players, particularly those who have gone out on loans and failed to make any impact in the lower leagues.

Who would you suggest making way for Kwane?

While I agree in the next game Kwame should be given a start, to imply that people should have know he was the best option already is a bit of a stretch. Johnny had had a couple of games in that role and not adapting to it for us. Now we know, we didn't before.

For those asking who he replaces, it's my opinion that Ince has dropped in form, and I would go with Ward/Thomas/Russell up front, and Ince goes onto the bench for a game.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell me I'm wrong and stupid though.

Kwame didn't change the game, Boro scoring and then sitting a little deeper allowed us more attacking intent.

Woodgate and co still cleared those long diagonal punts away with ease.

Kwame was a nuisance and he can play with his back to goal . Russell can't play with his back to goal.

Its not rocket science.

Not sure how you've come to that conclusion about Thomas after the 15 minutes last night, just as ineffective as Russell was for 75 minutes.

Id like to think that if we didn't play balls 2 yards over the head of our striker we'd be able to analyse this a tad better.

If we start Russell at Wolves in that role it's another defeat IMO thats my last thought on the matter .

Kwame deserves a chance or get a loan in .

PS Im  as sick as parrot today about last night

Up the Rams

Martin isn't fit and we have no one else of that type other than Kwame .

I agree its not ideal having to use Hanson and Thomas but there is no other choice .

We were woeful upfront last night.

And we stand a better chance with an U21 player with precisely zero goals to his name?

No point doing anything for the sake of it.

Now is the time for McClaren to prove his metal. Is he a bang average coach as his reputation in the media suggests or is he a top coach as some on here think.

We are not going to get a loan in......give me reasons Thomas "deserves a start"....he has done nothing, been sent out on loan and done nothing.....ran around a bit last night....when the game was lost....brilliant...Darryl Powell used to run around a lot....

Russell deserves the centre forward spot, he was signed as a centre forward and has spent the majority of his Derby time out on the wing....now he is getting the chance to play where he prefers..

Disagree with Thomas starting, I would have also liked to have seen Warnock in at DM over Hanson but there you go.

Important games need experienced players, every game remaining is important for us.
