Well....wigan weren't the dirty cheating shiite we saw last last year.

No boyce. No perch. They were two of the worst offenders.

Tactically they got it right. Stopped us playing out. Put a man on eustace who was ineffective when we had possession.

But they worked their nuts off. Quick to close us down they outworked us throughout.

Shocking ref. what was the penalty for?

And that was the worst attempt to get a wall to retreat 10 yards i've ever seen. They simply ignored him and stood 8 yards off until he gave up. Harsh booking for keogh too.

I thought russell did ok.

Ibe had a great chance to give us the lead.

Dawkins had a great chance too.

And Bryson side footed when last season he'd have found the net.

In the end their workrate, higher tempo, gameplan and physicality did for us.

We'll bounce back. Betya

Well played Wigan.

Wish Mascarell had played. Would have given more options to play out the back.

But c'mon George!! Get back!

Christie had his worst game? Really struggled. Looked tired?

Forsyth thinks we play negative hoofball. Even passing to Dawkins and Martin's neck when they're next to him.

Very disappointing, the passing from the back (including the goalkicking, umpteen balls going straight into touch) was awful especially down the left, Whitbread, Forsyth and Ibe all looked like cats on a hot tin roof hence every attempted foray down that side was a complete waste of time.  Deserved win for Wigan as it looked likely to be for most of the game.

Buckland 6.5 - some great saves inc. pen but culpable for 2nd goal, pushed shot out to their bloke, kicking was terrible

Christie 5 - Prob his least effective display going forward and struggled to contain McLean when he came on

Forsyth 5 - Distribution continues to be awful as it has been at regular intervals this season, disappointing

Keogh 7 - One of the better performances, gave his all and won plenty of battles

Whitbread 5 - Not sure he suits home games, too much negative passing to players in trouble or else back to keeper

Bryson 6 - Ran everywhere but not seeming to get last seasons end product as yet, hit the post

Eustace 6 - Rare goal shortly after conceding pen, the odd stray pass too

Hughes 5 - ineffective in first half, never really in the game

Martin 7 - came into it later on but was never going to get much from this ref

Russell 7.5 - the most lively of the forwards, gave everything through the match

Ibe 5 - Disappointing for much of first half, just one jink past a defender when he shot wide

Subs

Dawkins 6 - looked bright initially but it petered out

Hendrick 6 - played ok, was pretty industrious

Best 6 - got a few flick ons, was bit better than some of his cup displays

Fair play to wigan they were brilliant, no idea how they are near the bottom.

We were poor we need to find a way to break these teams down. Still top of the league and hopefully this was just a blip.

Butland - Made some good saves including the penalty. Could have done more leading upto there second though imo.

Christie - Had a off day didn't attck like usual and beaten to the ball for wigans first.

Keogh - our best defender today made some good challenges and interceptions.

Whitbread - Looked poor today he makes me nervous and fortune made him look poor aswell. Time for Buckos return if shotton is out.

Forsth - Poor today and didn't attck at all, he needs competition he's becoming complacent.

Russel - Played well he can at least say he gave his all today and looked like he was up for it.

Hughes - Looked tired today maybe needs a rest didn't look sharp.

Eustace - Even though he scored today he gave the ball away too much and lost it Quite a lot aswell. This game was made for Thorne we miss him.

Bryson - Quiet game and looked tired aswell, where have his darts into the box gone.

Ibe - Struggled today but he is young and still learning. Still showed abit of magic, I think he's more of a impact sub.

Martin - Was fouled all game by Barnett, had a quiet game though.

Dawkins - Did well when he came on and kept the ball. Glad to have him back he's a good player.

Hendrick - Played well and added some strength to our midfield, who were getting dominated.

Best - Erm not enough time for me to give him a rating but he needs a goal.

Good summary. The pen was a (very) harsh handball. It hit Eustace's arm, but he was about a foot from the guy and couldn't have got out of the way.

The wall at the end was ridiculous. He stood 2 yards beyond the Wigan players, but when they refused to move he simply gave up and let them encroach. We need that vanishing spray.

But we were clearly outworked and that's not normal for our boys. Good to have a game on Tuesday..

Poor performance all round today, Ibe needs to learn where to run, better to do that as a sub for now.

Whitbread hopeless at virtually everything today, gave ball away for their first, compounded the error by then getting caught 2yds wrongside of his man, turned his back for the second too, bring Bucko back.

Russell good, Dawks too for 1st 15 mins of second half, got what we deserved, 2nd poor performance in a row at home, just not creating enough.

Hopefully just a temporary lull, like we experienced in January, least our away form is good.
