Tonight we were without Max Bardell (hamstring), Courtney Clarke (foot), Connor Dixon (hamstring) and Harrison Solomon (injured). Harrison Foulkes, Jake Rooney and Osazee Aghatise weren’t involved, presumably because they might be involved with the first team against Barnsley. There was also no sign of the trialists who were involved against Leeds: Lo-Everton, Mema, Deslandes, Torraj and Wallace.

Bartosz Cybulski played his first game after being out injured and Darren Robinson had to play out of position in central defence. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Jaydan Davidson limped off after around half an hour so Kwaku Oduroh had to move into an advanced role down the right wing so that substitute Rhys Brailsford could play right-back.

The U21 squad is already stretched paper thin and they are only two games into their season. The starting 11 contained four U18s with another two on the bench.

With six U18 players involved for the U21s away at Middlesbrough U21 Friday night, and at least three others injured, it’s highly likely the U18s will need to call on some U16 players for their trip to Sunderland U18s on Saturday.

Then you think about all the recent academy lads who would still be eligible (comfortably) but are first team regulars/ have been sold

Williams, Plange, Ebosele, Ebiowei, bird, Sibley, knight, Buchanan, Cashin, Thompson… there’s probably more 

No surprise we’re struggling for numbers and quality 

I guess we’re now paying for 2 years of fast-tracking the best talent into the first team.

I expect he was on quite a decent whack- he’s signed at least three contracts since he joined the club, two of which were under the mental Mel years when we were paying outrageous wages

Perhaps it’s hard to get him to come down to an affordable wage under the restrictions.

Has Conor Dixon been given a contract? Was under the impression his was up. 
 

Wonder if Solomon at CB will get a bit of a chance around the squad as well 

I sincerely hope the club have learned their lesson from last season- you can rely on youngsters to bolster a significant percentage of your squad!

Ah yeah forgot Richards. He came on late for the first team last season if I remember rightly. Only 16 

Wonder if WGP will be given a chance at LB. 
Supposedly Darren Robinson in midfield is exceptional so we’ll see

Wilson looked class when was 17 but seems to have suffered with all the injuries he’s had. Shame 

Tbf I’ve always rated Dixon, I think he’d be a decent league player. Not got the quality of Bird but a very mobile, hard working player

Cheers, both. I think Forest are the main suitors and they can’t hide the fact they’ve just won a £170 million match so may mean Sheff hold out for a bit more than they otherwise would 

Max Lowe reportedly set to leave Sheff this summer and we apparently have a sell-on clause. Anyone any idea of the percentage?

He’s obviously exceptional for 18. Just depends whether he’ll be as good at 26 as he is at 18. Seems to happen quite a lot

Charlie Austin to lead the line next season ? hasn’t played loads in the championship last couple of seasons, will be 33… might he take a wage cut 

What worries me is we’ve already lost Plange and Ebosele for nothing and, in less than a month, all the players out of contract can start to sign deals with other clubs 

Need to sign so many up before they start to do just that 

So many U23s who could step up are out of contract as well- Watson, Dixon etc 

Must admit- I was nervous when we had Knight and Lawrence in central midfield but glad we held on
