  1. The points deduction could be upto 12 points.

Sheffield wednesday had 12 points deducted and on appealing that this was reduced to 6 points.

The point is yes a points deduction can be appealed, that could mean something similar to Sheffield wednesday in a 6 points deduction.

If its a points deduction its added to next season.

This all assumes Derby lose the appeal.

It assumes Derby are deducted 12 points.

    All these things are unknown.

To many unknowns in derbys current fate.

Efl could choose to deny Derby county the chance to be taken over by alonso meaning the ownership situation rumbles on, perhaps to next season, meaning Derby don't have funds to build a better team.

Honestly none of those would improve the team. Sign League one players that's where you end up. We need to be smarter and more creative with our recruitment

I'm just thinking of the best players Derby might sign.

Its not just do we have new owners who have money ...

    1. Do we have a team to interest the best players, based on this season prospective championship talent might be receiving advice from agents that the teams in a mess

    2. Unknown what the size of the budget is, don't want older Premier league or championship rejects, would rather buy rising stars

    3. The rising stars are likely to be cheaper than the top stars in the championship at present.

    4. Derbys a bigger club in my mind than the clubs I've suggested buying players from

    5. Accused of only selecting players from the clubs being promoted from league one this season, true but I did so purely on the basis that at league one level, Derby need to sign star players and not the average league one player

    6. I've not looked at Europe because there's less guarantee that the quality of player needed would want to play for Derby or would cope with the rigours of the championship

    7. There are so many players Derby need to bring in to strengthen the team. Its not a matter of saying if we just had 3 new players that would be enough. In my mind due to players performances this year and contracts ending, I believe Derby almost need a team of new players.

    8. Derby are in the unenviable position of having to say no matter the fee the club needs to buy but again that limits the number of players the club could sign even with new owners bringing the money

    9. Efl rules will probably limit how much can spend on putting a new team together

    10. Rooney doesn't seem to get the best out of players. So the players already need to be talented to play for a manager like him

Reasons for keeping Rooney on as manager:

Sacking him will cost money given that he is under contract.

.........I honestly can't think of another.

    Reasons for sacking Rooney:

    Unqualified

    Inexperienced

Player development seems to have regressed alarmingly, especially the young players.

Team selections and tactics are chaotic and constantly changing. The lack of continuity can't help players settle in their roles and suggests there is no settled game plan.

His teams generally play ugly boring football.

His lack of effort to stay fit when still on the playing staff betrayed a lack of professionalism.

    His in-game substitutions are poor.

Sacking him will mean we won't have to look at the 'Wayne Rooney's DCFC fans' anymore.

Post Bielik, over the last third of the season Rooney's team had the worst form in the entire EFL, including 6 straights defeats before the final match.

Avoided relegation on 44 points, a total that would get a team relegated most seasons, helped by Sheff Wed''s point deduction, Rotherham's fixture pileup and ultimately saved by Sir Marlon Pack's  88 minute equalizer.

.........I am utterly bemused by any Derby fan being supportive of keeping him on as manager.

    Totally agree.

Rooney now might also have to contend with getting enough points in the championship after a potential points deduction pending appeal.

Rooney isn't guaranteed a quality team next season, that's dependent on new owners spending the cash and plus which quality players want to sign for Derby given the lack of a wonderful winning formula from Rooney this season.

Why would you want to join Derby as opposed to any other championship side, it would have to be about the financial offer.

Players joining Derby will not want to face a relegation fight next season.

Anyone not in league 1 team of the year you think we should sign? (Good suggestions though)

If Derby get a points deduction from the efl, that will enforce my suggestions.

Its simple, Derby need to rebuild with a team capable of winning a lot of matches.

Alonso was quoted as saying he would spend millions on rebuilding the team.

Even if he does takeover Derby, any new owners would have to do the same.

Only a strong new team reverses the bad season the club just had

What about clough at leeds , what about Alex fergusson at one point , fact is he has been handed a squat with no proper fit young and hungry strikers , and also no money . I think you have to give him half a season.

Its not just about the players.

Its about a lack of tactical ability.

Its about a lack of fa coaching qualification.

Its about a total lack of management experience where Rooney been on a winning run.

Rooney isn't lampard, lampard is a manager I'd have back in a heart beat.

  6. April this year: "According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, a prospective buyer from the United States is still interested in the Rams but is waiting to see whether they can avoid relegation before committing to a deal."

It is my hope that other parties remain interested in Derby, especially given that Derby remain in the championship.

If alonso really can afford the club, the efl request to put 35 million into a British Bank account is the way forward, otherwise step aside now and allow other buyers to put forward their offers for the club.

  7. Looking at league one players Derby should consider signing ...

Goalkeepers: George Long (hull) or Craig MacGillivray (portsmouth), Chris maxwell (blackpool)

Defenders: de wijs (hull), Tendayi Darikwa (wigan)

Midfield: George Honeyman (hull), Jorge  Grant (lincoln), Marcus Harness (portsmouth), Aiden McGeady (Sunderland),

    Strikers: Clarke-Harris (Peterborough), Wyke (Sunderland),

    Yates (Blackpool)

If Derby can't afford to sign these sorts of players under the clubs new owners, then that for me is the point in time when Rooney has to be sacked; Rooney isn't a good manager so he has to rely on talented players that will improve the team coming into the squad.

A 3-3 draw and survival against Sheffield wednesday doesn't fill me with confidence for next season especially with the way Rooney managed the team last season.

  8. We don't know if Alonso has told Rooney that regardless of the result today, he wants Rooney to stay on.

That gives Rooney confidence and doesn't mean that pressure is all out for him to get a result.

My thoughts are that if it was me and I was seeking to spend 50 million to buy Derby, I wouldn't hesitate to pay of Rooney regardless of say a few extra million and then buy the best team and manager that I could afford to lift the club out of the mess its in.

I would not risk it all on a manager who in my opinion isn't good enough to manage the club at any level.

Just because he's played for England and was an amazing striker doesn't mean he's equipped to get the best out of the team.

I know I'm guilty of rehashing thoughts I've already shared.

For me its not just about the players its about the tactics, players not being managed properly and played out of their best position.

Rooney totally lacks management experience. In my opinion he was given the job as a means to help find a buyer for the club.

If he was in any other job he would have been fired by now for his performances.

    You're not speaking for me.

Plus who will pay for him to be sacked, Mel? ?

Clearly Mel is doing everything in his power to find a buyer.

Most buyers are unlikely to tolerate a manager of Rooney record and experience managing the club.

The cost to pay of Rooney is irrelevant if the buyer spent 50 million on Derby, its small change in comparison.

I think that the majority of fans don't want to see Rooney do further harm to the club.

  10. If relegated Rooney has to leave the club, even if forced out by fan protest.

If relegated based on current form id say he's capable of relegating Derby to league two if he remains in charge.

I dont see him with a winning managers ability.

Rooney staying on if Derby are relegated further hurts Derby.

If Derby survive, I'd still sack Rooney as I think even an average quality manager could have got better results than he has.

  11. Efl investigated Derby over what happened with Mel and his handling of raising finance using the club, they didn't approve but lost the case.

Now efl are investigating alonso over his plans for Derby, which according to the Mail, might involve refinancing the club.

Why would efl sanction something like that by allowing Alonso to pass the fit and proper director test if it involves refinancing the club.

  12. Sheffield Wednesday were first charged by the EFL in November 2019 after the league found that the club had breached the £39 million permitted losses set out in the profitability and sustainability regulations.

Are there similarities between Derby and Sheffield wednesday?

  13. 1 hour ago, GenBr said:

Had a look at the rules and if I'm reading it correctly they can still apply a points deduction this season, but only if it doesn't relegate us. Unless its a really small points deduction I guess that means it will be implemented next season if we do get one.

Points deduction  aside it then comes to down to, if Derby receive a 12 points deduction regardless of what league the club is playing in, the club would need to get a lot of wins in the next season to stay up never mind challenging for promotion.

It would be a similar situation to Sheffield Wednesday this season and they via lucky appeal had a reduction from a 12 point penalty to a 6 point penalty.

Would I want Rooney managing Derby in those circumstances, absolutely not based on his performances as a manager to date.

Some might say look at what he has had to work with in terms of injuries and players but its a bad manager that blames his tools

  14. An unlikely thought occurred to me.

The efl were not happy about losing to Derby over the stadium situation.

Is it possible than rather than forcing through the appeal, and deducting 12 points, they instead await the outcome of derbys season.

Delay the take over and place Derby in a position and put Derby in a situation where they simply don't have the opportunity given the time remaining to undertake the massive rebuild the club needs to do with team before the start of next season.

Already other teams in the championship are looking at putting deals together for players, the delayed take over is hurting the club.
