Both will claim what they want but only one of them is remotely valid. I am not defending or attacking anything or anyone. But those who try and draw comparisons that are gross exaggerations of the truth only inflame the situation. 
 
The Jews have a sense of being the victims. I think we should understand why. And that sense is only made worse if people exaggerate things, draw comparisons with Nazis ( for heavens sake ) or Putin. 
 
israel has been the. Victim of a terrible attack. Most right minded people are supporting Israel. 
 
I totally respect a view that Israel’s response may be disproportionate. But the kind of distortions we have seen on this thread ( and likewise spread across social media) only inflame an already perilous situation. 

There is absolutely zero valid comparison between actions of Israel and Russia.

I really do not thinks someone who does laughter emojis about 1,400 Jews being murdered, raped and mutilated is in any position to lecture anyone about what is or isn't anti-semitic. 

They are not just like Russia if they are trying to take out militant terrorists whose objective is to bring about the elimination of Israel. Not just regime change ( like Blair and Bush). But Israel ceasing to exist. It isn’t like the IRA who at least had a realistic objective of united Ireland. It is very difficult to see a peaceful solution, however much we all would want it. And that’s about the only comparison with the Ukraine I can see, in fact  peace seems even further away in the Middle East. 

They both involve conflict. And err,.. that’s it. 

Does Ukraine have an objective for the elimination of Russia? I don’t think so. You cannot remotely compare war in Ukraine with the Hamas attacks and the Israeli response.

It is a tricky one. But yes I think there is an argument that says that the Scottish Government and the SNP is racist because it blames the English for everything often unfairly. But we live with that. We haven’t had centuries of persecution against the English.

The big unknown is how many Israeli lives have been saved by them taking out thousands of Hamas militants. In a single day 1,400 Israelis were killed. That is the true measure of what is proportionate.

Alpha, David has answered my question about the civilian deaths . It wasnt 6,000 ( ie 100% of all Palestinian deaths as you had claimed. Still the majority were civilians. Is that brutal disproportionate ? Maybe. French civilian casualties were heavy in world war 2 many of them killed by the Allies. The ends justified the means most people believe especially the French. 
 
Will the same be true in Gaza? I do not know . Will it be a wild goose chase tracking down the Hamas terrorists I do not know. I am not a military strategist. 

will it only be self defeating and lead to escalation I don’t know. Maybe. 
 
so basically I agree with you on what Israel’s objective is. Whether it will work and / or whether the cost in human life will be disproportionate I do not know. 

it is a truly dreadful situation for both sides I think we can all agree on that.
