I don’t mean in the sense of Clowes has said ‘we must sign X, Y, Z.’

I mean it in the sense of the financial support Clowes has provided. I think he has wanted to back the manager and give him as reasonable a budget as possible.

Obviously the strategy is dependent on the business plan. Let’s see how things pan out in the summer where hopefully we’ll have more financial freedom.

To make any inroads towards 'financial freedom' someones going to need to come up with a strategy to move the club away from being a loss making business. Just my thoughts.

Barnsley to beat us in the playoffs & a managerial change in May

Tend to agree more or less with the top six prediction. We probably don't have enough in the squad to make it to the play off final, but I would still expect Warne to be the manager next season. The club is apparently losing money and the sale of Max Bird is going to offset some of the losses. The club can hardly afford to pay off the manager and his coaching staff.

I think Warne’s update this afternoon also to some degree validates Big Trav’s credentials as an ITK (for those who feel it needs validating personally I appreciate the info he posts). He was on here yesterday mentioning a medical pencilled in for a name (that wasn’t Lee Gregory or Michael Smith), clearly we did have someone the club had kept under wraps lined up and it didn’t happen. Maybe one day BT will reveal the player 😉. Keep on posting what you know and what you can BT.

I'm not frustrated or even disappointed by the predictable (non) signing of a striker. I would rather the club was just up front about it and treated the supporters with some respect or at least in an adult way. In any business transaction, if you are serious and professional you don't let a crucial deal get anywhere near the deadline unless you have a contingency plan to fall back on. All this stuff that trotted out 'just couldn't get the deal over the line'  'close but ran out of time'  'thought we had someone lined up' etc etc.... just puerile nonsense.

The players have to be interested in coming as well. Come on there was easily time today to get a better striking option than Lee Gregory if we had a manager with a pull factor would have jumped at the chance to play for us. When rosenior was here players turned down championship clubs to come here

Fair point. I suspect it may have been a combination of Warne lacking the 'pull factor', and insufficient funds to get a deal over the line.

Reached this post and yeah, that’s the thought here. No need to read on.

Lads out of contract, wants out and we get a fee, great.

That loan though, could turn nasty as he’s been getting some pelters already.

Bird and Knight was the midfield 2 I wanted to see, if I’m honest though, Knight felt a bigger loss. That’s not to say it’s always a bit sad to see an academy player leave.

    We’ll move on though.

Yes, Bird and Knight moving on to an average Ch'ship club and that's probably their level. Nevertheless, both a loss to Derby County, since we are not replacing them with equal, never mind superior players.

I’d be amazed if we managed to sign anyone. I think we’ve put all our eggs in the Smith basket and missed out on other players. What worries me massively is we obviously have a very tight budget so signings are key, we sign players like Washington and TJJ who are injury prone so for the most part are unable to make an impact, we stumble on signings like Waggy and Nyambe, let’s face it had Smith, Wilson and Ward stayed fit we wouldn’t have signed him. In our position it is key we sign players who can stay fit and are able to contribute. We can’t carry anyone. We’ve done well up until Fozzy and Nyambe were unavailable. We are coping without Waggy, Washington, Smith, TJJ who are injured and Fornah, Ward and Elder who have struggle for minutes when fit. That is 7 players whose wages could have been put to better use. I’d rather have 3 players who are available 9 times out of 10 than 7 bit part players. If we’re being honest our recruitment just hasn’t been a good fit for our purpose.

We are 1 injury (Collo) short of the wheels coming off and struggling to make play offs when at the start of Jan we were looking at a top 2 finish.

It’s just very very poor in my eyes and shows lack of a plan. All teams must budget and have a plan for Jan and what they will need depending on how the season is going. Is on the other hand will either sign someone as a last resort, a player who isn’t match fit or someone that no one else wants.

Could argue that Waghorn, Washington and TJJ were all risky signings, fitness wise. With risks you have to accept the consequences if things go wrong.

Actually he had $25 million in his personal account, the problem was it wasn’t his.

Perhaps so, but that's not really enough to pass proper financial scrutiny. Quantuma weren't doing their job properly and that was perhaps down to Kirchner being the least unlikely bid on the table.

Beginning to think we are not going to be getting any more signings this window, really don’t think we have enough funds available for the type of player/players we need , really hope I’m wrong and Warney gets what he wants

Yes that's the crux of it. We do want to bring in quality, but within strict budget constraints (on the cheap). If we had the financial clout, the deals would probably have happened by now. Not a complaint, just an observation.

Having a great season and making up the goals we lost with McGoldrick leaving 😊

Yes he's stepped up to the challenge, and is proving to be a good pro who doesn't hide, even when things aren't going well.

I just watched the highlights- who was supposed to be marking the player on the back post in the last moments of the game who somehow didn’t score as it looks like dreadful defending

Yes that was very poor, and the two good goals scored by Bird and Collins can't overshadow an unconvincing performance. We were frustrated by a team that were able to get numbers behind the ball when needed, as well as causing problems in our half.

His precision wasn’t that good given his funds ended up in mainland Europe instead of coming straight to the UK 😉

I know we joke about it now but how was he ever going to get away with it when the funds never even existed? Probably the worst that could have happened is the process could have been delayed even longer. He was never in a position to actually complete on the transaction. Makes you wonder why he ever did it.

Well he pulled the wool over Quantuma (how much were they paid?) and all the others, including 'trusty' local MPs. You have to wonder about these people, when all said and done, Kirchner didn't have a pot to p*** in.

How about giving Reading some credit for their performance, reminded me of when our backs were against the wall and we adopted that same siege mentality

Yes, no question that their 'siege mentality' outweighed our desire to secure spot in the autos.

    3 x blocks of 6 games left.

13 points needed per 6 games now, just to get us to 92 points and in with a chance of autos.

    Going to be tough.

Yes, quite a challenge. Perhaps need closer to 95 pts for autos, if Bolton and P'boro don't slip up. Our current injury situation not helpful, but a couple of astute signings before the window closes would help. Fine margins.

Sonny Bradley is quite tall, have we considered him as a striker?

Only in the 90th minute desperately needing a goal with 5 mins xtra time to play.

If Derby don’t get reinforcements in by the end of the window then it certainly won’t be for the want of trying by the coaching staff. They know they will be out of a job if we’re not at least in the playoffs come the end of the season so not getting quality players in will all be down to the finance guys

If the finance guys are doing their job and ensuring that the club lives within its means, we should perhaps be applauding that.
