I know this wasn’t meant for me, and I’m by no means anti-Warne, so I get why he made the changes he did yesterday and no real problem with it for me as it got the job done despite a little more nerves for the final 10 mins. However given Warne asks the players to be brave, I think he could have been a little brave himself.
Collins for Wash or Waggy, Sibley for Tommo, Robinson for Smith, Elder for a cb with Forsyth moved central and Bardell for Rooney would have allowed the shape to remain….but then that ignores the fact both Waggy and Wash were knackered, NML too so you’d have been carrying some players to the final minute either way.

It highlights that ongoing need to strengthen. Hopefully we see incomings early in the week so they can train before next weekend.

Thanks Caerphilly - fair enough with those changes. I think he was looking for experienced players to see the game out - but I get your point on being brave. If he’d have brought Robinson and Bardell on he probably would have been slaughtered for bringing on inexperienced players if we’d conceded. I think we’re agreed though the depth of the squad is not sufficient with the injuries to be able to freshen up in critical positions and at critical times.

Really ? I was there and didn’t see many decent quick passes - unless you mean by Fleetwood ?

Not only did he play 3 at the back but played players out on position.

Yes really. I was also at the game and witnessed it with my own eyes. Also watched the game on the iPad this morning and saw them again….full match is available if you want to refresh your view (see the first half). You are correct, Fleetwood also played some decent passing football in spells - particularly second half when they changed their personnel.

As for playing players out of position in the 3 - I assume you mean putting Nelson out to RWB for Bradley to come on? That was an obvious switch because Fleetwood tweaked again and brought a lot of tall players on to the pitch for the last 15 minutes. They were starting to dominate the aerial battles and resort to long throws. So retaining the aerial ability of Nelson, Foz, Cash and enabling Bradley to come on made perfect sense at that stage. It meant our ball retention suffered tho - but ultimately we won.

The beauty of football - we all see different things in a game!! 👍🏻

I don't know about Warne living on borrowed time - more like he's living in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks blowing £1.5M on a center half is the answer to the issues we have in midfield and up-front....

I’m pretty sure he agrees with you……🤔

"But Warne was quick to reject claims that he is weighing up a move for the 24-year-old before the transfer window deadline on September 1.

"Wow, that is amazing," he told Derbyshire Live. "I take full credit for signing Cameron Humphreys and he is an amazing centre-back.

    "But I don't know if you noticed, I have quite a lot of centre-backs and I haven't got £1.5m.

"He's also playing in the Championship and is quite happy. If I had £1.5m to buy a player and I bought a centre-back when I need attacking players, I would sack myself!

"It would be the worst waste of money, but Cameron is an amazing player. Where the story has come from I don't know. There is zero truth in it, you'd be surprised to know."

I get what you are saying but I think the way we have played and his stubborn refusal to change formation may have something to do with it ?

He changed the formation yesterday though and actually played some decent quick pass football in spells……🤔. Although I felt we were still a yard off the pace when out of possession.  And yes I know  he went to 3 at the back but I think that was more because of the lack of options on the bench to stay like for like when the team clearly needed fresh legs on the pitch.

  5. I disagree too. Can’t question his desire and determination to win the ball - but he wasn’t beaten so many times in the air against Wigan - was no coincidence that Wyke chose to drift into this space for goal kicks, he was also beaten for pace a lot of times. Maybe the latter was accentuated by the slightly different position he’s being asked to play in the first two games. Although fundamentally I think those two areas are going to stop him being much more than a League One CB. I’m not sure he has the composure or passing ability needed to play the CDM role - yes he hits the cross field diagonal every now and again but his basic 5 yard keep it moving stuff can sometimes look very laboured.

Seems easy sitting here and dissecting his game but he’s a far better player than I ever was and I hope he can get back to some of the storming performances we saw for most of last year!

  6. And I know its a dead topic now - but moving away from the crap puns - the DPD bloke who delivers round our way is a season ticket holder at Coventry and was ranting this morning about how sh1t Godden is and we could happily have him!!

Just made me think that the saying “One man’s trash is another man’s gold” could not be any truer in the world of football fans!

Thank Godden this is eventually over

Who next?  Gabriel Jesus or Tammy Abraham?

Too young ….  whilst we watch over our rams we should be more visionary in our thoughts and go for a partnership of Juan Pablo Angel / Gabriel Batistuta   🙏

I'd sell him after last night.  No pride in wearing the shirt

Seems a little harsh. Whilst Bird probably hasn’t delivered to the high expectations many had for him, I really don’t think you could say he hasn’t worn the shirt with pride these last few years.

That said, for all the ability he seems to have, he doesn’t yet dominate games whether that is defensively or offensively. He has moments of clear ability (like we saw with a couple of key passes against Wigan) and then he has long periods when he goes missing in games (like we also saw against Wigan).

I actually think Sibley (when fit) would provide a better option in the role Max is being asked to play currently. Sibley is happy to carry the ball at defenders and take shots at goal and I think would give a better balance than Bird if partnered with Smith and Hourihane.

However, we would still need more in that Attacking Midfield / Forwards area and if the funds could be reinvested to bring a couple of more dynamic players in to fill that space then I’d see it as an overall positive.

There is a difference between saying “I take responsibility” and actually taking responsibility.

    Agreed.

Just as there is a difference between saying “a few of our players may have had their heads turned” than saying “Max Bird has had his head turned” or “our best young players have had their head turned” which seems to have become the narrative.

    'Heads turned'

    Everyone knows who he means.

Deflecting blame like a third rate politician.

Your last paragraph is bizarre. I don't know where to begin with that.

Everyone knows who he means??? Please could you be specific ….which players exactly do we all know he means?

Deflecting blame? In the same interview where he said “I need to do better” and “I take responsibility” 🤷🏼‍♂️

You appear to be mixing fact and personal speculation to suit your agenda - almost like a third rate politician!!

Very few made it personal to Warne till he made it personal to our best young players.

Many of us were previously frustrated and offered constructive criticism but last night crossed a line.

Goes out of his way to treat people with decency? Try telling that to Max Bird! Those comments yesterday weren’t treating anyone with decency.

The only bile filled garbage here is you accusing me of being the sort of fan that would abuse billy sharp.

Please could someone share with me the interview where Warne personally criticised Max Bird or made it personal to our best young players…….the only interview I’ve heard is the BBC Radio Derby and the official DCFC interview. He did neither of these things in either of those interviews.

Also, for those at the game booing could I understand were you booing the Manager or the players or both? Did you exempt our best young players and Max Bird from the booing?

We leave it as it is and we have no chance of promotion. No chance. That’s the road to oblivion.

We have learnt something. Paul Warne is a crap David Brent wannabe who isn’t fit to coach the local Sunday league team.

Fair play - I may not agree with all your thoughts. But you’re making some bold comments on here tonight and certainly leaving us in no doubt on your views of PW. It’s gonna be interesting to watch how it all unfolds and see whether you’re a clued up 🤓 or clueless 🤪 !!

Please scrap this 3 at the back nonsense!!!

    4-3-3 or 4-4-2

    Wildsmith

Ward Nelson or Bradley /Forsyth  elder

    hourihane bird sibley (injured)

NML (injured)  Collins waghorn / Barkhuizen (injured)

Don’t disagree with the potential change of formation - but not sure its sensible to play with injured players 🤷🏼‍♂️

  14. 1Wildsmith 5 - looked like the Wildsmith who started last season. Cost us a goal

35Nelson 6 - some over hit passes but generally defended well and improved as game went on

5Bradley 5  - his timing of headers, the ball and generally was not good - poor goal

6Cashin 5 - looked slow and unfit; beaten for pace and in the air too often.

    14Washington 6 - a couple of nice touches

23Ward 7 - our main threat, some great crosses - a little unsure defensively

2Wilson 6 - his first dribble was excellent and nearly produced an equaliser but become a little predictable

12Smith 5 - seemed too casual at times and slowed the ball movement down

8Bird 5.5 - early turn and switch out to the left was great, tried it again 3 or 4 times again and got robbed of possession

4Hourihane 5.5 - slowed it down too much and too many safe passes

3Forsyth 7 - great energy, well taken goal - could have had 3

Elder6 - not much to write home about

9Collins 6.5 - snatched at the early chance when he had more time but held the ball up well and worked hard for the team

11Méndez-Laing 5 - doesn’t seem to understand the position he’s being asked to play; need much more from him

Thompson 6 - a brief burst of energy and hassle in the midfield

He's got 81 goals in his last 120 games at this level and is on the transfer list.  If we had the money Warne would be giving him a piggy back here if he wanted to sign. Why would any club in this division not want that level of goal threat if they could bring it in.

I don’t disagree with any of what you have just written - not really the point I was making tho

  16. FGS - our recruitment team are rubbish - why can’t we just throw a load of cash at Peterborough, pay JCH whatever he wants to replace Didsy’s goals ….everyone knows that that formula is sustainable and has a history of success……. and having that amount of goals from one person in your team guarantees you promotion just look at Peterboro last season…..they ….oh wait….!!! 🫣😉

Happy Monday everyone - bring on Saturday!!!  🐏
