    Halloween (2018)

Great performance by Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, who confronts her long-time foe Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.

Far far better than I expected and a properly scary/gruesome horror, with a decent plot and great script. Plenty of nods to the original film as well. Forget any of the previous sequels & just watch this one.

Best film I've seen this year by quite a margin.

    Highly recommended. 9/10

That one take scene where he's walking around the neighbourhood was really good.

I doubt she is, she made a comment which was hardly the worst thing in the world. I cant believe its caused such a fuss, its like all the simpsons style comic book guys have taken offence because they arent being led on by her into thinking they can get in her pants.

Seriously people would take offence if she had said she preferred Coke to Pepsi.

Haha the other half of the universes population, leaving no more old poo man babies. You sure have an issue with Brie. Not that I’m judging, we all have our actors we like and those we can’t stand. Like I said, I don’t let actors views distract my film enjoyment, unless they’re in humane or they’ve been found doing something wrong.

Who's going to kill the shebrats? I don't care if you like Captain Marvel. Its just the coffee I had to clean up after I read you describing her as a likeable lead that concerned me.

As a result of watching Captain Marvel and the ensuing debate about her as a person, along with my growing excitement for Endgame, I rewatched Infinity War last night. I think that is my favourite film of 2018, and not even ashamed. So rarely does a triple A blockbuster meet expectations, and mine were high, but this did. Scene after scene of good film.

Ive come to realise with age that movies are less about what the critics say or whether it’s a big/low budget/indie film, but whether you enjoy it when you watch it. And it’s a good place to be!

Thanos is an amazing villain. But I suspect as Larson is an ardent feminist Captain Marvel might be up for wiping half the population out of existence.

She made the mistake of saying that her super hero movie wasn't for 40 year old man children, forgetting that 40 year old man children are amongst the primary consumers of Marvel cape-poo.

The irony being that she said she doesn't care what old white men think about A Wrinkle in Time because it wasn't made for them. As you say, which demographic tends to like comic book superheroes again?

    Captain Marvel

I appreciate that by this point, the 21st film in the MCU, only fans have any excitement for another Marvel film. But once again, like a few other recent Marvel movies, this is a great watch regardless of how many minutes you’ve racked up watching the others and the amount of knowledge you have. There are lots of references to previous characters and films, knowing nods to the past and a glimpse into the future. But this, at its heart, is a good action movie with a likeable female lead. Builds towards Endgame nicely. 8.5/10 Mason Mount

Wensleydale Larson is one of the least likeable people in Hollwood right now.

    Anthropoid

WW2 story of the assassination of SS General Reinhard Heydrich, the main architect behind the Final Solution and the Reich's third in command after Hitler and Himmler. in 1943 he was sent to stamp Nazi authority on the people of Czechoslovakia.

The films really draws you in and makes you think about what people in Nazi occupied countries had to endure, flag waving Brexiteers who think we stood alone and Europe owes us etc. should watch!

I have never really understood why they did this considering the repercussions, but I guess there is always a bigger picture involved in these things.

Bit of trivia, 'Anthropoid' means resembling a human being - fitting as the film stars Cillian 'cold as ice' Murphy.

Barry Stanton is spinning in his grave.

Was actually going to watch this but have no idea whether I should or not now. Stringer reckons it's hilarious but not sure how to take that observation tbh ?‍♀️

Its genuinely creepy but sometimes I just find myself unexpectedly laughing out loud. A few people found that apparently as there's loads of instances on reddit etc of people who saw it at the pictures whining that those who sat next to them ruined the tension as they were laughing so much.

I think that is rather generous, I thought the plot was as solid as Clod, with a finish as good as Stern John's.

Yeah it was a bit crap and can't understand why so many people have watched it. It would have been better if you didn't know what was going to happen because they let on what was going to happen at the start of the film.

I must say, I remain slightly baffled by the desire of many for this.

The biggest complaint I see about Jack's commentary is that he talks too much . . . you'd get even more talking from the radio comms, if anything!

As I'm learning from doing 23s, 18s and the odd first-team game, commentating for TV is a very different skill to radio commentary.

Technically I think it's too much of a challenge for us to sort anyway.

On your other suggestion, I'll mention it again here, but I don't really have any say on that side of things!

The biggest complaint you should get about Jack is that he feels the need to tut every 5 seconds. How do you get a job as a public broadcaster when you've got a verbal tic?

It maybe didn't help that I knew about the most shocking scene before hand - having failed to avoid a spoiler, but that was in the good half of the film. After that it somehow changed direction and ended up like an old 80's B-Movie horror film.

I found both sides of the film, the scary bit and the funny bit really entertaining, I'm just not sure if it was for the right reasons. I enjoyed it regardless.

There were a lot of salty comments from people complaining they had their cinema experience ruined by antisocial barstewards laughing through moments they thought were tense. I'd have been one of those people.

    Hereditary

Wanted to watch this at the cinema but missed it. Finally got the Mrs to watch it the other night (she doesn’t like scary films). Wished I hadn’t bothered.

Why people are claiming this is the best horror of the year is anyone’s guess. Started off weird and quite atmospheric, then descended into stupidity and a truly awful ending. At no point was it even scary. The fact I’m a Toni Collette fan just made it worse.

    Big disappointment

    4/10

I thought it was pretty scary. Mostly hilarious though.
