Look I know we drawn last two games but now we got 4 home games coming up look we are just outside the plays offs by a point I believe that you can do better than finishing in the play offs I.believe we can finnish on the top 2 or even champions all you have to do is just believe in it your selfs no matter who comes in the January transfear window yes we need reforcements but you done great and dont let's anyone tell you otherwise.

I believe you're deluded re: top 2. If Warne gets us in the play-offs, he has done the first part of his job well IMO. You make no mention of the restrictions that the club is operating  under such as playing a midfielder at right-back. Furthermore, there are other sides in the division who are a step ahead in terms of development & preparation. The top three are there on merit & clearly ahead of the rest at this moment of time.  We have to visit five of the current top six.

We need to get out of this division, yes, but we also need to have a platform that will enable us to stay in a Championship where the margins are getting increasingly fine & even big hitters find themselves in the lower half/a relegation battle (WBA) & a  situation quickly unravel after promotion (Wigan). Nobody would turn down promotion at the first time of asking  but if we have to stay down a second season, so be it if it allows the manager to build a stronger squad. Of course, we don't want to get stuck, but we have a proven operator at this level.

I think it's great that PW even has us competing after what went on before & trying to blend a side of home-grown players with signings made by another manager who had a different style in mind, different from his own perhaps & all signed in a hurry. As Warne said, he's tried to come half way with the players instead of imposing himself on them. I think he mentioned during the EFL tie with Liverpool - the Klopp love-in - that he also took this job with the notion of seeing if he could evolve as a manager.

Much of this season depends on McGoldrick staying fit IMO. We are already a weaker team without him & he has been key to this unbeaten run in all competitions.

So, we're a work in progress. Warne has made us hard to beat in another competitive division. Even Wednesday needed a late equalizer to get a point at Exeter.

I'm happy to be competing at the right end of the table.

some players have gone on to show they were capable of more than we thought they were.

I'm not disagreeing with you, you're right, but it's probably a truism at all clubs/throughout football. Players let go, but then going on to forge a career elsewhere as you said, above. Sometimes it's do with attitude & maturity - you'll find some players saying being let go was the best thing that happened to them career wise though obviously not at the time. Going to a club where they receive the right sort of mentorship/coaching for them, or simply having someone who believes in them/inspires them, say with Evatt at Blackpool.

I can't think of anyone we've pushed out the door who's gone on to much greater things.

Completely agree. A lot of disappointment at Derby regarding signings we've made, but very few young players we've let go who have gone on to greater things. Several, as said, have had good careers. It remains to be seen what happens with the likes of Liam Delap.

Stead was fantastic in his loan spell with us and we'd have walked automatic promotion that year if we'd been able to sign him permanently.

His parent club were Sunderland if I remember rightly & they sold him to Sheff United rather than do a deal which quite obviously benefited a promotion rival. Echoes of Newcastle helping to undermine Burnley last season by bringing in Wood. I thought Stead was fantastic & a big loss. We were top of the table.

  4. Browsing the League 1 stats, (BBC/espn), Exeter have two players topping the assists chart, Brown & Nombe, as well as the GS charts. They appear a side who score & concede, 7/8 of their last games have seen them score at least two as well as concede with regularity. For us, Bird has two assists & Collins is top scorer with 4. We've had this problem for seasons now, the lack of creativity across the team, other players creating chances for fellow attackers though we hope McGoldrick will do so.

I fear our side lacks pace at the back and has a few square pegs in round holes at the minute as we continue to reshape our squad following a good 18 months of turmoil, two if we recollect that Cocu was sacked around this time of year in 2020.

Two tricky games against promoted sides, I don't see this as an easy game at all. Yes, we should win, but Exeter have already won at Barnsley. They have a front-line that has one promising loan striker and which seems to be working well in tandem together, we are still reshaping our front-line, Osula is promising, Dobbin still finding a role and we need McGoldrick to stay injury-free & to start building some understandings across defence, midfield & attack.

  5. Saddened for Rosenior, but the away form was a concern. I think David Clowes has taken on a lot of financial responsibility, buying both club & stadium when he was only buying the latter at first. I think this is a decision made to try to ensure we get out of the division within two seasons at the most & getting back in the Champ'ship would probably allow the club to generate more income (attendances, tv revenue), taking the burden off Mr Clowes, who I think probably wouldn't mind other suitable interested parties assisting him (i.e. fellow local businessmen/associates injecting some investment).

We probably need a certain level of crowds to break even, say around the 27k, and whilst the Championship brings more expense, Warne has been used to managing under a budget, and in fact has seen players poached by clubs a division lower, so he'd probably receive more support if he did get us promoted in terms of budget (middle range for the division, competitive) than he did at Rotherham ((90% less than the rest of the division, apparently), but not something that would jeopardize the club's future after recent events.

Heart said Rosenior, head understands why the new owner took the decision (cold, unsentimental) for the ultimate financial well-being of the club. I think it's less of the knee-jerk, Mel Morris type of decision (ego/headlines), and one taken to give us as good a chance of getting out of the division as quickly as possible. This season may be about rebuilding things and having a tilt at the play-offs; a few other sides, like Ipswich, are further ahead in terms of development, and maybe next season, with a full pre-season, you'd expect us to be the front-runner if we do not manage promotion this season.

I didn't know a great deal about Warne, browsed one article (training ground guru), which gives the impression that he possesses Rosenior's human qualities as a man-manager, but has the proven experience. Rosenior was a gamble (unknown quantity), Warne, a more calculated risk. Of course, it doesn't always work out like that, but Warne does know what it takes to get out of the division.

  6. Brentford

Any side that is well-run. The previous stadium was run-down & they had been a lower tier side for decades. In the world of the closed-shop league, they offer hope and a model about how it can be done. They were also one of the first sides I ever visited to see Derby in the mid 80s.

I also learned respect for Swansea after the Bodde saga & exchange of insults between us & them. It was irritating seeing them prosper & us struggle, but enlightening to discover how they did it, knowing that the odds were stocked against them, finding a way to become successful. They are another side who ascended the divisions, reached the PL & won a trophy & a memorable Europa League campaign.

Getting there by being patient and having a strategy.

  7. I'm not sure I agree,  @Loughborough Ram, but that's what this forum is about, different opinions. I think, as a long-term approach, it is risky though Fulham have done similar, got relegated & then promoted (yo-yo club). Forest are probably benefiting from that link to Olympiacos, though problems could arise if rules here ever get tightened up.

You're right about the financial disparities between the top division & Champ'ship as the root of so many problems, but even FFP affects things in the PL as seen by what is happening at Leicester.

I have to say, having seen Derby lurch from one financial crisis to another, from boom to bust, I'd be concerned if it was us spending  such sums on fees & wages that are beginning to eclipse what Morris incurred & got us into such difficulty. It was already a concern watching us spend £10m on two midfielders even if it appeared exciting.

So, in some ways, Forest may get to enjoy short-term glamour, but end up paying for it in the longer term, and perhaps on a far bigger scale than what happened to us.
