McRainy got a reaction from Van der MoodHoover in Gaming
Ooh, don’t know those, what’re they like?
The best thing about Christmas as a child was that we always got a new board game and all the aunts and uncles had to play it. That and the Binatone, of course.

There's been a massive resurgence in board game systems the last few years. Stuff that's more fun / complex than classics like Monopoly and Cluedo.
I'd recommend having a browse of https://www.shutupandsitdown.com/ - great site for video reviews and news.
Pandemic is a co-op game where you work together to prevent the outbreak of a deadly disease across the globe: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-07-17-pandemic-review
For Dead of Winter, think zombies! It's another co-op game, where you work together to keep the team alive – gathering food and medicine, while fighting zombies. The twist is, each of you have a secret objective – some are innocent (e.g. you hoard food, so you need to secretly stash supplies), others more sinister (e.g. you want to get everyone else eaten by zombies!). There's usually a good dose of paranoia in each game: https://www.shutupandsitdown.com/videos/review-dead-winter/

Not D&D, but a mate of mind has rekindled my interest in some of the more obscure Games Workshop games.
Currently painting up a Blood Bowl team in DCFC colours.
I'm also a fan of board games. Things like Pandemic and Dead of Winter.

They're not toys - they're figurines
You young whippersnappers have no idea what it was like when the only computer game was a Binatone bat and ball, and Sunday evening TV highlights were Penelope Keith in "To the Manor Born".
but yes, looking back on it I'm quite content to be a figure(ine) of fun

I know a few people who still play Chill. Dabbled with Space Opera and Runequest back in the day and even devised my own system when I was DMing at Uni, but I’m too immersed in the world and rules of D&D to seriously consider anything else. I use the Forgotten Realms stuff, it’s pretty comprehensive.

Great, go for it! The trick is finding like minded people. We focus on the atmosphere and story telling side of it, rather than monster bashing, but each to their own.
I always used to feel a bit intimidated going into the gaming shops. It seemed to be wall to wall Warhammer layouts, which isn’t something I ever related to.
I’m actually having a planning day today, before heading off to the football...

And a big day out was to the Games Workshop shop in Nottingham to check out the latest Dungeons, figures and accessories.
You've rekindled my interest. I'm going to check out the Eastleigh area - lots of 50-60 long haired types here that are potential D&D-ers.

I’ve been playing it on and off since about 1980 and this is the first straight fighter I’ve had. Always went for stealth before, occasionally with a bit of magic, usually something sneaky like shadow dancing. I say ‘straight’ fighter, but she’s a bit of a sand snake, a dancer and barbarian weapon master, specialising in poleaxe, trip and disarm.
I started playing at school because I fancied the DM. A group of about 15 of us would take over someone’s house for the weekend and play 48hr sessions surviving on tea, toast and fags. It was brilliant, total escapism, really engrossing. I can remember wondering what I needed to roll to get the bus back home.
These days it’s a bunch of long haired 50 and 60 somethings trying to recreate the magic with a few bottles of wine and a bucket of root vegetable crisps.

Anyone play Dungeons and Dragons? With dice and bits of paper and actual role playing?
Don't do computers but I’ve got a 9th level fighter I’m pretty attached to.

If you struggle with procrastination now you will be buggered if you go to uni and there is a student union full of booze, loads of new women and a student loan sitting in your bank account!

They’re only GCSE’s. Have as much fun as you want now... save the revising for your A-levels

Don't worry. Society has already condemned you to the scrapheap.

McRainy reacted to TigerTedd in Apple
The infrastructure being inflexible isn’t kind of the point. I don’t want to spend days looking for a phone, watch, tablet, router, docking station, home hub etc.
I spent hours just trying to compare Alexa with the google home hub thingy for my sister. I won’t have to do that for myself, I’m just going to buy the Apple one, dead easy, saves me loads of time, one less thing to worry about. And I know it will all just work seamlessly.
I went from Windows to a mac, having been an avid supporter of Windows, took me about 3 days to realise the interface and the intuitiveness was far superior. At the same time I moved from an android to an iPhone and never looked back. I try to use an android now, and it’s just so unintuitive, I cant find anything on it.

McRainy reacted to Day in Apple
Comes down to the individual I guess, I wasn't a fan at first, then I held it and swayed back and forth, like I say it did take a few weeks but now it's not the eyesore that some claim it to be.
What Apple does next is anyones guess, but if you take a look at their products across board the designs are fairly consistent for a number of years, the 6, 6S, 7 and 8 are almost identical.
The one majorly annoying thing with the X, more than the notch is the glass back, same on the 8 as well, they need it for the wireless charging but it's a nightmare for sliding around, always fishing it out from down the sofa as it slides out. If you're a case user though this wouldn't be an issue but I can't stand cases.
