  1. This is also why we are struggling to keep players
  2. No idea Roy I was just being sarcastic really about the fact that we probably cannot now make signings from a 4th division club for the sort of fee that we would have paid in the early 1970's
  3. Agreed but that goes for pretty much any opinion on a message board. So what's the point? you know that thread where people give their opinions on the players performance each match for example. Doesn't matter a damn whether we thought Bird was a 7, 8 or 9 or that NML was MOM. The only opinion that counts is the managers. And so on and so forth. On here we have a debate right. Should we not do so? In any case I would disagree with you slightly though in that the collective opinions of supporters always counts. No owner can disregard that. At the moment Warne is on thin ice with a lot of supporters. He's probably at least as unpopular as Phil Brown was or Nigel Pearson was. He's got some good results at home in the league recently though so he's got some credit in the bank but that result and performance against Crewe hasn't helped his cause at all. We will see how he goes but would you like to bet any of your hard earned money that he will see out his 4 year contract?
  4. He has failed so far. How long is the period we should set to make a judgement as to whether he has failed or not? I think he absolutely must achieve promotion this season
  5. He would probably cost 200K or something so no chance
  6. Starting tonight so let’s hope he tears them a new one
  7. If he was as quick as Bale he would be playing for a top prem club by now
  8. Did I say I wanted a team packed with youngsters? I’m just talking about a long term build as we saw with Arthur Cox when we were last in this position. Or for that matter as we saw with Nigel Clough. A blend of youth and experience where the young players go on to form the longer term backbone of the side.
  9. All we need now is for him to show an intent to build around younger players and academy players for the future rather than sticking rigidly to his experienced pros
  10. I don’t think so. We can play both of them for sure. As somebody else suggested Wilson could play in a 10 for a start. Wilson is an out and out attacking player, no way is he a full back. He reminds me of Nigel Callaghan. I think he is very like Cally
  11. And he’s 23. He needs to be first choice with NML coming on as sub. We should be building a team around lads like him and Fornah rather than NML and Smith. But great stuff today
  12. Your first sentence is a gross exaggeration but the general point you make is correct. However it easier for them at the moment to target our academy than it was when we were a strong championship club equal to them. We are in a vulnerable position
  13. We need to get promoted or this will be a constant for us. Any promising youngsters will be hoovered out Villa seem to have a hotline to our academy, some rich, easy and local pickings to be had
  14. What proportion do you think it is?
  15. If he gets the English equivalent of the white hankie he’s had it, regardless of how someone ‘high up’ at the club briefed Dominic Dietrich. That’s all we have, no public comment from Clowes himself don’t forget. Oh sorry of course Warne himself has told us he has been told to ‘rock on’ We will see. I think his days are numbered
  16. Where was Ben Ratliffe last night is he injured? He looked like he was breaking through to the first team a few weeks ago and was included on the bench a few times. He’s one I think looks really good
  17. If we play well and win well on Saturday he will be surviving until the next bad performance and result. If however there is quite a while before that happens and in the meantime we are much improved then a lot of the doubters will have changed their tune and will forgive him a bad result. But if we play badly and lose badly, or even frankly just lose at all on Saturday then he’s in deep trouble. There is not a lot of patience or faith left amongst the fans
  18. I think he’s class and will go to play at a better level than this
  19. What Clough did came naturally to him. It was not learned. You can study him and try to copy him but his magic came from within him
  20. Thought this thread was supposed to be about Thompson not Hourihane
  21. Yeah so no point in having a membership as I said you plonker
  22. I’m beginning to think there is no point having a membership. What seems to happen - notts County was a classic example - is that they open better blocks with better views when all the members have bought theirs
