  1. I started going in 1970 and have no doubt whatsoever that behaviour and language was far worse in the 1970's and 80's than it is now. However it improved tremendously though the 90's and up to maybe 10 years or so ago. I think though it has got worse in recent years and is continuing to do so. I think the hooliganism that we exported to the continent is now being exported back to us and the latest generation of young lads appear willing to get involved. As I say, still nothing like the days when fans were herded like cattle along Osmaston Road - us on one side, away fans on the other - by Police on horses and with dogs. When there were pitched battles in the ground and outside(as opposed to the odd skirmish that you get now) when goals for the away team and their celebrations would be met immediately with the chant 'Your going to get your f****** heads kicked in'
  2. If I lived in Derby I'd go. Interesting to see the young players in a competitive fixture and see how they get on in comparison to the first teamers. I watched the U21's last night and was pretty impressed. I'm not sure the 'gulf' between that and crappy third division 'mens football' is as big as some make out. Yes the pros are stronger and more canny (think Collins) but less technically proficient (again think Collins)
  3. I think those people who want to sit down and/or want a more genteel experience with no foul language etc can relocate to the North stand surely and get the same view. I know people will say 'but we have been sitting here for 15 seasons and why should we move' but I've moved several times now since PP was opened, 2 different season tickets in west stand, lower then upper, 3 different season tickets in East stand and half a season in what is now the Gordon Guthrie. Its no big deal moving
  4. Yep. I've never heard an atmosphere at Pride Park like for many of the games under Rooney when we were fighting for our lives. I know some will argue that has been better in the past but I don't think so. Either way the atmosphere was so so good because the supporters believed in the players and the manager and had totally bought into what they were trying to do. At the moment we are about as far from that as we have ever been, enthusiasm is luke warm at best. Warne and the team need to prove that they are worth getting excited about and that will be hard
  5. It was great to see the young lad so obviously thrilled with that
  6. This is the role (CDM) that Fornah played in the championship last season wasn’t it? I think we should put him there in the remodelled midfield for the second half of the season. I think we should accept that’s likely Bird won’t be here. But we will have Thompson back and if we wanted to play two pivots I could see Thompson and Fornah working very well. Loads of energy and mobility. If we are ever going to use Sibley then the attacking midfield role you are talking about is surely his for the taking. Then we have Hourihane to play further forward than he is now. Plus starting to use Ben Ratcliffe and Robinson. So in my opinion we have the options here already for midfield. That’s even if we lose Bird. So, as others have said it’s a striker we need. Absolutely. John Jules needs to be seen as a bonus because of his fitness record
  7. I still felt negative at half time although I think it was a better first half than against Bristol Rovers. The second half was pretty good though and there are some green shoots for the future in Wilson and Fornah. Obviously Cashin and Bird are good players and played well but I don't count them in the equation for the future because I just don't see them being here. Nelson has been a good signing and at 30 years old is one we can count on for the immediate future, including the Championship. When we can get Ward fit he will be a good player for us I'm sure and both he and Wildsmith are people we can build around as well, including for a championship team. We have debated Sibley to death but can anyone really see him making it here? I think he will move on and needs to for the sake of his career. We have Rooney to come back and he is another one we can build with. But then we get to the people I listed in my post on the other thread. Collins, Washington, Waghorn, Smith, Hourihane, Bradley, Forsyth, Barkhuizen and NML. we are trying to squeeze the last drops out of that lot but its total short termism. We may get promoted with them but either way all of them need replacing. Thats why I struggle to summon up much enthusiasm but I'm a bit happier after last night and I'll be much happier if I see some positive churn of players in the transfer window. I appreciate that the main changes will have to come in the summer when contracts for all these players expire
  8. I don't think he's right for us at all but accept that sacking him right now makes no sense. Results are improving though performances are not. Tonight will be very interesting. We have to give him the January window to make further changes to the squad and then the rest of the season. However if he fails to deliver promotion then he should be sacked
  9. It’s not a question of the club publicising internal discussions. Simply Warne telling us that he is committed to youth development and the progressive inclusion of young players. He can do that himself alongside all of the other things he chooses to tell us about his management philosophy and techniques such as giving out mugs and the wall
  10. I'd like him to say so publicly. And in some detail and in a way that we can tell he means it. If he did I would get behind him
  11. We are getting results now. Maybe performances will improve but I don’t think I have ever felt so little confidence in or interest in a manager or group of players as I do now. I can’t wait to see the back of Collins in particular, I hate him with a passion. But I can’t stand the sight of Smith, Hourihane, Barkhuizen, Washington, Waghorn, Forsyth, Mendez Laing and most of all Sonny bloody Bradley. I want to see the lot of them cleared out in the summer and to be honest I won’t cry a river to see Cashin, Bird and Sibley go as well. Bored to tears with the lot of them. A clean start is what we need, just hope it’s with a new manager as well
  12. I thought it was an abysmal performance glossed over by the fact that we somehow managed to win it. We would not have done if Smith had not got injured and replaced by Fornah
  13. We have been playing a back 4 so surely Elder will play if he's fit. I don't particularly like the look of him as a wing back but he's an experienced left back. If he's not fit though I reckon it would be Nyambe at left back and Joe Ward at right back(rather than Wilson who I think will play further forward)
  14. An 18 year old on loan is no more what we need than any more 30+ players. Anyway we saw how good Wolves U21's are didn't we?
  15. Yorkshire Ram said 'We're in the weakest playing position in our club's history, coming out of the worst financial period' This is not true. In my opinion we were weaker playing wise in the early 1980's and the period before Maxwell got involved was just as bad financially. Warne inherited much better players last season than the squad Arthur Cox inherited plus a lot of very good youth players. Arthur took one season to start to reshape things, but you could see the progress being made. Then the next season it was constant, rapid progress all the way to 5th in the old first division. We made no progress last season and none so far this season either. Warne isn't good enough for Derby County
  16. He has zero chance or capability of either getting us promoted to the PL, or hilarious in prospect, manage us successfully in the PL
  17. No I said at the outset that the reasons for getting rid are strong, varied and have been rehearsed many times. Just see David's post a few posts up for an example of where some of the main arguments are well set out. I just thought it would be useful to say the counter arguments don't hold water
  18. I think we have been through the reasons why we should get rid of Warne at some length so pointless to repeat it. I think is useful though to look at the four reasons that are given for keeping him. These are either used on their own or in combination 1. We should be be proper supporters and GET BEHIND OUR TEAM. This gets generally mixed together with supporting Warne because he's the manager and because its about supporting the project and supporting David Clowes. All this MOANING AND NEGATIVITY isn't helping at all and we should recognise that we are in fact 7th on the verge of the play offs. If we were all pulling together and supporting our team 2. We CAN'T AFFORD to pay him and all his staff off 3. We should not keep CHOPPING AND CHANGING managers and we need to give him time. We are partly in the mess we are because we kept chopping and changing 4. This is a MASSIVE LONG TERM JOB BECAUSE OF ADMINISTRATION and those that think there can be a quick fix are DELUDED There may be a fifth in that some people claim to know David Clowes mind and believe he has no intention of getting rid come what may. There is an element of truth to 1 and 3 but I don't believe any of these points are stronger than the evidence that Warne is the wrong man for the job. Also I don't believe 2 and 4 to be true anyway
  19. This is also why we are struggling to keep players
  20. No idea Roy I was just being sarcastic really about the fact that we probably cannot now make signings from a 4th division club for the sort of fee that we would have paid in the early 1970's
  21. Agreed but that goes for pretty much any opinion on a message board. So what's the point? you know that thread where people give their opinions on the players performance each match for example. Doesn't matter a damn whether we thought Bird was a 7, 8 or 9 or that NML was MOM. The only opinion that counts is the managers. And so on and so forth. On here we have a debate right. Should we not do so? In any case I would disagree with you slightly though in that the collective opinions of supporters always counts. No owner can disregard that. At the moment Warne is on thin ice with a lot of supporters. He's probably at least as unpopular as Phil Brown was or Nigel Pearson was. He's got some good results at home in the league recently though so he's got some credit in the bank but that result and performance against Crewe hasn't helped his cause at all. We will see how he goes but would you like to bet any of your hard earned money that he will see out his 4 year contract?
  22. He has failed so far. How long is the period we should set to make a judgement as to whether he has failed or not? I think he absolutely must achieve promotion this season
