  1. Not sure I understand getting both Wilson and Fields. That said, they’re both cheap short term deals, but could get expensive the season after. However, with Arthur Smith calling the plays, neither will prosper.
  2. Yep - they are at it again. Profiteering at another club in financial trouble’s expense. Really starting to despise that club.
  3. Wilson going to the Steelers. Still think that the Falcons are being leveraged for more cash from the Vikings for Cousins.
  4. Towards the end of the season, stats go out the window, as teams at the bottom start scrapping for their lives and those in mid-table begin to start thinking about their holidays. Just focus on ourselves and get as many points as possible.
  5. Right. Chiefs win! time to get 3 hours sleep before work!
  6. Nelson, NML and Collins are all ex-Cardiff. Maybe it’s a good sign for Adams! (I’m clutching at straws here!)
  7. I fear there is too much expectation on Dejaune Brown. Some people appear to be expecting him to walk into the side and play at a level he has never been near to before. Yes, he’s a prospect, but when we’re looking at a very raw player, we have to nurture him and that is why sending him out on loan to Gateshead is beneficial for him in the longer term. If he was up to the level that we’re looking at, I would expect him to have had more time on our bench, and the fact that he got 13 mins off the bench on Saturday means he’s still got some development to go.
  8. The way I see it is that we’re in a game of chicken with Charlton. They know he’s leaving and want the biggest fee they can get. We know he’s leaving and want to pay as little as possible. The closer we get to transfer deadline day will be the closer those two values come together - and whoever stands their ground longer benefits if the other team caved in first. Or both teams effectively lose out.
  9. That’s fine - however, it would be much more suitable that if we own a player’s contract, we should continue to pay their wages whilst they are receiving their development during their secondment to their temporary club. One could even argue that the parent club should pay a training fee for their employees development. You could argue they pay £x per match they play based on the level of opponent (e.g, if they play a side in Div 2, they pay a greater development fee than for a Div 4 side). That would help sustain the smaller clubs and potentially make teams consider whether to just hoover up all the talent.
  10. Next year, we’ll be seeing many more disruptions to the 3pm kick off time, with 10 of the 36 games being moved for TV purposes…
  11. Any promotion will do me! After Colchester, we’re the longest running team without a promotion, in the football league.
  12. At the deadline day, I would have been ok with selling him for 4 million, but now I don’t think we should let him go. He’s become so integral to our recent form, that it’d be awful to lose him now. If we get promotion, then we should be looking at getting him to extend his contract.
  13. He’s Iraqi, so if he’s going to the African Cup of Nations, he’s not likely to play! However, the Asian Cup is also being played in Jan/Feb, so he’ll be there.
  14. I thought Thelonius Åsgaard looked useful for Wigan yesterday when he came on. Played in the Hourihane role and got them ticking. Only 21, contracted until 2026 and coming back from an injury, so absolutely no chance of us bringing him in.
  15. A guy phoned his boss and says “I can’t come in to work today, because I’m sick”. His boss says “OK, how sick are you?” The guys responds “Well, I’m currently spooning my Nan”
  16. And I always knew Static-X wrote great choruses!
  17. Now’s the time I roll this one out again for our current predicament…
  18. It’s a huge gamble though. We did hold on to all of our stars when we were relegated under John Gregory, and turned down lucrative bids for Poom, Christie and (I think) Riggott. We failed to get anywhere near promotion and ended up losing them for a fraction of the price. Unfortunately, we’re not holding the aces in this situation, and any monies that our most saleable assets can attract would allow for us to invest in multiple areas where we’re short.
  19. Welch was very good last season whenever I saw her refereeing. Allison, on the other hand, delivered the worst refereeing performance by a long stretch, at home to Port Vale. I remember reading up about him afterwards and saw similar trends from other clubs’ fans who’d considered him less than capable. Although, in fairness, you probably would find that in every ref at some point…
  20. Here’s another bizarre penalty…
  21. It was on Radio Derby that he had an option for a further year. I fully expect him to leave in this window - it seems the agent talk is already starting…
  22. With the NFL, the ruling on the field stands unless it is a clear and obvious error. If we must have VAR, let them watch the replay, in real time, a maximum of two times and if they can’t tell, then it’s not clear and obvious, so go with the original ruling. You can do that before they have lined back up for the centre, so it doesn’t impinge on the timing of the game.
  23. Thought I would introduce a thread to capture bits of play that are generally entertaining/eventful. Here’s a starter from Poland… https://x.com/james_dart/status/1721133619358355797?s=46&t=ZCIf8z2Y2zUFnORKyVyViQ
