And to be even fairer, it’s quite possible that there’s a load of things depending on this one signature. Quantuma wont sign off on the exit plan until everything is in place, Clowes won’t complete the purchase until the exit plan is in place, and the EFL won’t readmit us into the league until the purchase is complete by Clowes etc.

Exactly.
People's inability to comprehend even the most basic of information as soon as they smell blood and an excuse to moan is stunningly consistent.

What's the alternative though? No statement last night? A statement saying we don't know how long it will take? Not sure either of those are any better.

It absolutely wasn't just financial gymnastics - it was a proper valuation done by a professional firm of property valuers. If you want to see the maths of how the value was worked out, it's in the written reasons from the EFL Stadium hearing.
Like I said, 'value' can mean different things to different people. In the context of a professional football club, the value of a stadium is in it's ability to host matches for the club. So for things like insurance purposes, you need your stadium valued at what it would cost you to have a stadium to play in. If Pride Park is valued at £20m, an insurance company is going to want to insure it for that. But if it was to burn down or whatever, £20m is no use when it's costing north of £70m nowadays to build a decent stadium.
But in the context of lending money to a financially struggling company, the 'value' of a stadium is what could be salvaged from it if the club was unable to repay the loan. That's why MSD demanded additional guarantees to loan us ~£20m. If we were to have gone bust, they didn't feel they could retrieve the full £20m from the stadium without a club to play there.

Seriously, go and read the EFL written reasons again. None of the roof/redevelopment etc stuff was factored in. It was valued at ~£80m purely on the stadium as it existed right then. And that was based on extrapolating from the costs to construct equivalent stadiums at that time. The rise in costs is purely a function of rising construction costs. Just compare the amounts spend (and the years they were built) building, e.g. 'Boro's stadium, to Cardiff's Stadium to Brighton's stadium and you'll see a very similar pattern to the value of our stadium.

The issue is what you mean by 'value'. Pride Park was basically valued on what it would cost us to replace it (less wear and tear etc), which is absolutely a standard way of valuing things like stadiums. And when you look at Brentford paying £70m for a much smaller stadium, and Brighton paying £93m for theirs a decade ago, ~£80m is not remotely a crazy valuation.
Obviously in other contexts 'value' might mean completely different things to different people.

It's a valuation method that was proven to be valid at the IDC hearing, and used by other clubs...
What debt will there be to "get under control"? If reports are true that we're exiting via the 25% method, the only 'debt' remaining to pay will be to football creditors as they fall due over the next 2 seasons.

Fair enough.
I could see him (or someone like him) taking the job temporarily - the whole process has been rushed, so it's quite possible Clowes hasn't had chance to even think about appointments yet. But I don't see how he can do the job at the same time as his current job full time, and I don't see him leaving that job for this one.

Note to self … stop playing it to my kids!
