6 week UK trip booked for next year, leave Brisbane 28 April and 38 hours later land in Inverness. 3 days in Inverness then 7 days walking the Great Glen Way from Fort William to Inverness. Nothing confirmed after that but looking to stay somewhere around Derby for 3 weeks then head south.

How's it going mate? Has it stopped raining yet?

  2. Dunk and guehi seem to be inferior clones of Maguire and stones.

We don't have anyone close to Bellinghams level if he isn't available.

Looks like we don't have much depth below the first xi.

That said, Eze has given it a go.

Not a fan of either Bowen or Gallagher.

In fairness, they're not just doing their jobs, they're excelling at their jobs by gaining promotion and earning their club in excess of a £100m. If you're on of a number of players who earn your club a £100m bonus, it's not unreasonable to expect to share a £10-20m share of that money. Where it becomes irresponsible, is when these players earn vast fortunes for achieving nothing.

It looks bad on promoted clubs' accounts during their promotion season but these bonuses are paid out against future earnings in the Premier. I suppose that the EFL must take these bonuses off the clubs' losses when assessing for FFP. However, the Premier league will include these losses when they assess the clubs in future seasons.

Sounds exactly like the bankers. "Look at all the extra profits we made you". Until they turned out not to be there. Just like premier League profits.

Lol. They were so good at it they did it again! I was asking about how they made their 'lucky signings', seems that spotting Mahrez helped. But interestingly the huge wages paid relates to promotion bonuses:

"Leicester’s 2013-14 accounts state they spent £36m on players’ wages, £5m more than the club’s entire income – the goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, the captain Wes Morgan, the prolific striker Jamie Vardy and other core players were already on the payroll then – although Leicester said £9.4m comprised bonuses paid on promotion. During the season, in January 2014, Leicester signed Riyad Mahrez from Le Havre for a reported £560,000, and the Algeria midfielder has since been instrumental in Leicester’s promotion and remarkable Premier League turnaround."

If you look for info on Luton's finances - who we should aim to be like according to one poster - then their current losses are down to 'huge' promotion bonuses. It all goes on still.

How to stop football clubs spending money? 😉

Or how to stop players and/or agents demanding huge bonuses for doing their jobs.

    As bad as bankers......

It’s just that it’s  embarrassing to be reading about the heroics of 40 year old amateur footballers when there’s a champions league final to be watched

Personally I'd be more embarrassed about organizing my evening around watching a bunch of sausage eaters and bull fighters bore everyone to death.

    But maybe that's just me.......

Can’t we have a separate ‘glory days’ thread ? You lot could recount tales of footie derring do to your hearts’ content and everyone else would be able to decide whether to share the glorious nostalgia

    We're bored Kev.....

There's no rumours, nor confirmed incomings.

    We're whiling away time.

Not really a problem though is it? Not distracting you from the total lack of any news or owt is it?

We really need to build a team around youth and hungry players who want to play football

Players from 18 - 27 is the way to go these days or a player that's just 29-30 wants one more run and still play well

Thanks. Weirdly, now most of us are 70+ most play golf. I'm out between 3 and 5 times a week on my 20 speed Guerciotti Alero for between 35km and 80km at around 30 kpu to keep the waistline reasonable. Down to 88kg come november, back up to 95 come April. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I reffed for several years but 3 years ago I had 2 breaks in my left fibula following a cycling accident. 2 Ops later I'd lost the ability to keep up with play for 90 minutes. Always said I was never going to be THAT ref... the one who never leaves the centre circle. Kept to my word and stopped.

Did some reffing in the Hampshire leagues in the noughties. I found the fastest running was getting away from the games back to the car (always parked away from the ground).

That was after the 2nd ACL rupture.

90 minutes? I played getting on half my career there before retiring at 53.

My best season? That would be 98/99. The team had a perfect record. Played 22, lost 22. We averaged 8 or 9 goals against every game. It could easily have been 20 a game, hence a good season. 8 or 9 a game good? IMO, yes. I'll explain...

I was 44 at the start of the season. The average age of the side was about 50. The back 4 were all good players but the left back, at 52, was the baby of the defence. The central defenders were 56 and 58 and the right back was 60. We were ahead come HT in a few games, level in some and, even when behind, there was usually just the one goal in it. Around the 65 to 70 minute mark, all 4 were done for. That was when the deluge started. Kept me on my toes but you can't stop 'em all although I did stop a lot. I would think a good 80%+ of our goals against came in the last 20 minutes of games. The opposition teams were all 20s to early 30 in age.

Good effort mate. That was presumably before walking football was a thing for the older generation, so they had to keep going in the usual leagues......

I'm not too up on the possible available players. But I would be very interested in their commitment and attitude to DCFC. Particularly as I'm sure these attributes will be essential for a difficult, battling season. And, it'd be nice if they could be fit enough to string a few games together.

Max Lowe for instance. Not a chance. He'd be better off trying to get back to Aberdeen.

Would be ok though with Ben Osborn. He can make peace/amends after that goal in 2015

You're allowed more than 1 paragraph in a post, mate! 😉

You mean like Stoke signing Johansson last week despite him being under contract at Rotherham (until 2025) and it not being the transfer window?

"Viktor Johansson has signed a three-year deal with Stoke City."

"The transfer will become effective upon the opening of the summer window"

Rotherham have announced a number of "signings", but not the basis of them.

Unfortunately, the way to get promoted to the premier is to generally throw money at it. We are the only club who failed and got punished. Time and time again clubs have been promoted by throwing money at it and have avoided punishment, the list is very long, Villa, Fester, Bournemouth twice, QPR, Watford, etc.

Clubs doing it the 'right way' are few and far between.

Luton, Burnley, Brentford and dare one say, Forest in recent seasons.....

  13. The CEO at Plymouth is a scouser. So the fans have been critical that they only seem to get scouse managers.

He looked today like he needed to get back out on the training ground.

For my missus 50th birthday I presented her with a madeira cake, exclaiming it would be the best birthday cake she ever had.

She seemed a little underwhelmed at this plain sponge cake until I told her Madeira was where we were flying to in a couple of days time.

Obviously you don't have to be so extravagant but you could do something along the same lines. Maybe a toilet seat and say you're off to Bognor.

I still don't know why my Eccles cake gift got such a stern stare.......

    Now you're just being cantankerous.

He wasn't playing well from the start. Too slow and dithering in possession and unconvincing at picking up and dealing with runners.

I've liked Stones plenty in the past and he's still Englands best cb. But he isn't on it today.

But in the interest of balance Stones has looked better 2nd half moved across. Just did a decent interception to snuff out a dangerous pass towards Fernandez.

    So fair's fair.
