Keep playing like we have been of late and the only question is if we finish top or second.

    UTR.

Next time I'm over for a home game you can buy me a pint of the usual in the Brunny. I'm in there early myself. Likely to be in March... February game is Barnsley away, April is FGR away.

With regard to the post I've quoted, somebody took the time to take every team's last 10 games form and extrapolate that to the end of the season. We end up 3rd, 3 or 4 points behind Gargoyle in 2nd. Barnsley, Bolton and then Ipswich in 6th. Be interesting to see how inaccurate extrapolation is.

Ha, hung by my own petard Scarlet. ?

Maybe it’s because like you we almost lost our club recently that we’re just glad to be there at all. In fairness we’ve always had better support than the other Lancashire clubs, especially away support and even now with both Blackburn and Preston both pushing for promotion they can’t compete with us. Obviously the competition for fans is far more acute where we are with Man United, City, Blackburn, Preston, Wigan, Burnley and Blackpool all within around 15 miles max of Bolton plus others like Accrington, Fleetwood, Stockport and Rochdale. You really only have Chesterfield so I think comparing gate size is somewhat irrelevant but I accept it’s good to be well supported and you are.

You forgot Burton and Mickleover...  ?

  3. Looks like Bolton fans are getting the club into trouble. BWFC has just released this statement...

Bolton Wanderers would like to reiterate the expected standards of behaviour from Whites’ supporters on match days, particularly when travelling to away fixtures.

Unfortunately, as a consequence of ongoing disorder from a small minority of fans when visiting opposition grounds this season, the club has now been warned and sanctioned by the FA as part of their new measures to tackle anti-social behaviour.

This is costing the club both financially and reputationally and is incredibly disappointing when so much is being done by so many to ensure Bolton Wanderers is a stable and sustainable football club, continuing its positive journey forwards.

In a move to further combat behaviour that disrupts and endangers fellow football fans, the club has developed its own new Fan Sanction Policy that provides transparency around the penalties that will be imposed to fans who breach the guidelines set out in the document.

The club will now consult with the Bolton Wanderers Supporters’ Trust with a view to finalising and subsequently publishing this policy.

This policy will clearly outline the sanctions that will be related to offences including the use of pyrotechnics, missile throwing, pitch incursion, aggression towards staff and the use of discriminatory language and behaviour, amongst others.

Neil Hart, Chief Executive Officer at Bolton Wanderers said: “We are urging supporters to consider their behaviour, particularly when attending away games, where most of these issues are arising.

“A small minority are spoiling the experience for other supporters and causing ongoing difficulties for the club which is, otherwise, in a fantastic position.

“We ask all fans to please enjoy upcoming games in a way that represents the very best of Bolton Wanderers.”

The club acknowledges that the majority of fans are fantastic ambassadors of the Wanderers. However, those who persist in their disregard of the safety and wellbeing of other fans are urged to reconsider their approach to matchdays - and to understand that the club will take decisive action against those who breach the safety guidelines in place to ensure that everyone can enjoy matchdays both home and away.

Hi guys another Wanderer here and equally perplexed why most posts are about the crowd not the game? Brilliant support you’ve had this season after all that’s gone on so well done on that. Should be a cracking game with both sides going for a win and both in good form. Obviously we’re suffering from a few injuries and departures, especially Afolyan going and Bod out for the season but we should still have more than enough to compete. It goes without saying that this game should be in a higher division than this so let’s hope we can both get there soon. A draw wouldn’t be bad for either but I think we need the win more than you do. Whatever happens I think we’ll both make the top six so we may have to meet again this season yet? Let’s just hope it’s a good game and not spoiled by poor refereeing.

I fully expect a tight game just as at yours. Two similar sides cancelling each other out. You nicked possession, just. You had 9 shots to our 11. Both had 2 on target. I expect similar stats tomorrow.

Quite a few of your fans have been saying we parked the bus. Stats seem to show that you did too. That or the defences ruled.

  5. I'm very pleased the club is playing its cards very close to its chest. It's denying the tabloids and the clickbait sites anything to print so they make it up. They copy the made up stuff from each other. They regularly regurgitate the same rubbish every couple of days. IMO they are not journalists. They are chancers who have found a way to make money through advertising revenue clicks. As a business model, it works. They are helped by the one journalistic trait they do seem to have, the ability to write come and read me headlines that persuade people to click open their "articles". Personally, I avoid them like the plague.

Let's look at one of them. Football League World. From people's comments on their posts, it appears they have linked us with Shinnie. He went to Aberdeen. Linked us with 3 centre halves, Nelson from Cardiff, one from Boro and one from Pompey. PW has said no interest in either Nelson or the Boro lad but that doesn't stop them rehashing the "rumour" every 2 or 3 days under another well written headline. They have also linked us with a Pompey CH. The lad is out of contract in the summer so, under the right circumstances, one could be led to believe it a possibility. However, they are promotion rivals. The player has started just about every game this season. Does FLW really think they'll let us have him for nowt as we're not allowed to pay fees? This week they have also linked us with a Villa player. No idea which one as I didn't open the link... never do. If anybody has read the "articles" I'd be happy to learn who the players from Boro, Pompey and Villa are.

  6. If we go on the premise that all teams at the top will win any games in hand they have (ours is Cheltenham at PP) and that we beat Ipswich at PP and win away at Plymouth and Wendy, we'd be just the 1 point behind Ipswich and 5 behind Wendy and the Gargoyles. A lot of ifs but top 2 isn't necessarily as far away as it might appear.

Can we bridge the gap? Yes. Will we? Hopefully but nobody knows which is why the game is so interesting.

  7. I asked in the "gasroom" why we weren't getting the extra allocation. This was one of the replies...

SWFC only had 2572 at ours on Saturday. There were some untaken seats in the portion of our Family Stand allocated to them . The Family Stand is the lower tier of our biggest stand. There were Wycombe supporters with young children who moved to less appropriate parts of our ground or didn't come on Saturday. I am sure that you can understand it would be undesirable to split the upper tier and have opposition fans above our Family Stand whoever the opposition would be.

Our new owners have always been keen on the Match Day experience, and there are some seats in the ground for home supporters that it is necessary to walk 4 / 5 ths of the way round the ground to reach and leave those seats, if those stands have a split allocation. The queues for various facilities were greater than I have ever known on Saturday.

We were very close to selling out the remaining areas of our ground to our own fans. This despite the weather and the bad experiences of some of our fans on the first occasion against Ipswich when we split the two stands to sell additional seats to opposition supporters. We had more than 5700 Wycombe supporters in the ground for the game against SWFC and that number has been recently rising steadily. I can't think of any club in the country who would sell seats to opposition supporters and turn away their own supporters or even run the risk of turning away their own supporters. That is not a courtesy, that's rolling over to have your tummy tickled.

I reckon that we tried to increase the away allocation as an experiment, and from the point of view of our supporters it certainly wasn't an unalloyed success. It may well have been that if our home games against SWFC and DCFC had come in the reverse order, Derby fans would have been offered the additional seats and Sheffield Wednesday fans would not have been given the opportunity. I am sure that there is every chance that if we are play-off contenders towards the end of the season we won't be splitting our stands to increase the allocation for away supporters.

I think our club has acted sensibly and without prejudice in this matter.

I am sure that Derby will return to at least the Championship at some stage. As you say, whatever happens, enjoy your season.

  8. Bird did a lot of work in the gym over the summer, mainly upper body. Still needs a bit more but as somebody said, we have to remember, he and Sibs and Knighty are young lads and too much too soon won't be good for them.

  9. Been doing very well at LB. Keeping Roberts on the bench. Best defence in L1 which is amazing when you consider the RB is a midfielder, the LB is an attacking MF whose best position may be at 10, one centre half started out his footballing life as a left winger, became a left half, then a LWB, then a LB and is now probably having the best stint of his career at CH (I wonder if Wildsmith is starting to get worried ?  ) The other CH is the only one of the back 4 who is playing in his "proper" position.

  10. The Cup really seems to have lost favour. Only the South and East stands open yet there are still 1756 seats available in the "home end". Barnsley won't fill the SE Corner either. I doubt we'll get more than 13K in for the game.

Yep...it is a blast from the past alright....way back to the time when even I was young and rebellious, it stands for "Often No Change"....great bunch of lads, had some awesome nights/days with them.

So, it's not part of a N*tts postcode then? ?

  12. IMO he's a young lad with bags of potential and, to reach that, he needs to make good progress over the rest of this and next season. If he doesn't make that progress he'll be a L1 or lower player.

Personally, I like the lad and think he can make the grade as a good Championship player but he isn't going to do that if he's forever in and out of the team and playing God knows where next game. Left back, left or right wing back, left or right wing, DM, #10.... striker? How can he be expected to develop?
