How much is your batwing?

Daft question... it's a one off and built from specialist parts... Just be assured that it's WAY out of the realms of any footballer's wages...

Seriously, what's with the woe is Raul routine? He can go if he wants, I'm not stopping him. But he came to do a job and made a hash of it. He was a failure. And as far as we're aware it's no ones fault but his.

I don't think anyone has a 'woe is Raul' attitude... just saying it's understandable that for some people a move to a different country with a newborn baby doesn't work out...

Also... you seem to be working on the assumption that he's being paid an astronomical amount by us... and more importantly MORE than he could get in Spain? I suspect he could command a fairly decent wage in Spain and the lure was trying to get to the Premier league with us...

Ill ask Lucius Fox if you're not telling.

Ok yeah I agree things might not be perfect for him for a year or so at least. But I still expect my big, commanding centre half to be able to deal with such adverse situations as having a baby and being a couple of hours travel from your family whilst having the misfortune of being paid a lot of money. I don't expect our tough, uncompromising bruiser of a defender to be Andy McNab necessarily but come on! Homesickness? Upset girlfriend? It just doesn't appear from the outside that he's made of very stern stuff does it?

Yeah after all the fireworks when he signed, and fighting off 12 clubs I'm assuming he's on a fair whack.

Wow... So you're saying because he's big he's not allowed feelings? Or that because he's paid a lot of money his feelings mean less? I'd also like to point out how many British players play abroad in non-English speaking countries... How many? (i'll help here... not many...) We are in NO position to criticise anyone for not settling abroad when our players barely dare to leave and those who do are soon back...

You've answered my point here... If 12 clubs were interested then don't you think he could get good money elsewhere too? Maybe? Like maybe back in Spain where he's less miserable?

I think the guys took a brave move to leave his country and come to us... and it hasn't worked out... no harm, no foul...

Just out of interest... If someone offered you a 20% pay rise would you move abroad to somewhere you didn't speak the language? I'm fairly certain I wouldn't... I like being here more than I like money thanks... Close to family, watch the super rams, job I like...

I did.

I moved to Dublin.

I'm aware of the fact he has options. But he picked his option and then screwed it up. What I would do, is make a decision and stick to it for longer than 6 months. What I wouldn't want to do is fail because I was homesick.

But instead of asking what I would do, ask what Tommy Smith, Chopper Harris, Stuart Pearce or Dave Mackay would do. You know, no nonsense defenders like Albentosa is supposed to be.

Is that from your experience of working abroad? Is it something you've done?

Also... 1) Are you really saying that a player's position makes a difference?!?!? and 2) Did any of those players play abroad?

I did. Twice. And it is really easy.

The whole "homesick" "can't speak the language" routine is absolute rubbish... Pathetic excuse.

The real reason he is leaving is because he really isn't very good.

No. I don't know what this has got to do with me though. It's like saying you're not entitled to an opinion on football unless you've played yourself. When you recruit players you look at their character, no? There are people of a certain character who would more than likely not get homesick. Those are the ones you want.

1) Yes I think the position matters. You don't necessarily expect your nippy winger to be a stony faced leader of men. Bonus if they are, but for fairly obvious reasons you can cope with them being a bit of a wuss a lot more than you can your centre half or your midfield ball winner. I'd be surprised if anyone would seriously say otherwise.

2) I thought that after I typed it but I let it stand anyway. Don't think it would have fazed any of them. They didn't get 'emotional' in that regard because back then blokes tended not to. Don't know where this British stiff upper lip we supposedly had had gone. Even our soldiers are encouraged to 'talk about it' these days.

Maybe... In which case why are you taking a pop at Albentosa?

Surely the mistake is with the recruitment team?

Not sure why some are so worked up about this.

He's not the first and won't be the last to move due to family issues, at least he wasn't an integral part of the team like a couple of others that left iirc - think Paul Goddard and Chris Powell and they only wanted to be in London!!!!

Also, who's to say this wasn't Clement's idea? Maybe it was on the cards for 1 to leave with Shackell arriving, and with Bucko linked to Brum and Keogh to Burnley + others, perhaps after talking with Albentosa PC suggested the best option for all was the loan! Rather than lose 1 of the others that are more than capable at this level and reassess next summer?

Probably because some thought he was the second coming, and now can't accept that he wasn't actually very good.

I don't think judging him on the back end of last season is particularly fair tbh, but appreciate that this is all we saw of him. I don't think anyone was actually very good other than Ince during that period, hence the relegation form!
