Quoting a scoring record only tells you so much, players develop at different rates - it doesn't really matter if he didn't score many goals prior to the season that got him noticed, it would be like saying that we shouldn't have tried to sign Danny Graham 2 years ago (not that we did) because he had a poor record for the first 4 years of his professional career... but if we had done so, we'd be sitting a bit prettier now!

He also wouldn't be the first player who can score lots of goals at Championship/Scotland level but struggle in the Premiership. Rasiak voted Spurs worst ever striker, Howard when he was with us, for 2 examples.

Anyway, if reports are true then none of this matters!

I don't think you can be too harsh on his record, most of them appearances are subs, the wigan fans think he definitely has something, very quick, very strong and very fit and works like a horse.

He could be the new Steve Howard for us, he was never going to make the premier league but he was prominent in this division! I hope we can still get him, not for 2million though... but hope we can get him!

Howard is 6'3", this chap is 5'10", to compare them is a tad silly...

Hear what your saying but we already have people who work like horses!

A decent finisher is what we need in my opinion we would have scored a few yesterday had we a finisher. Another work horse and our problems would still be here although I agree he would work hard

Alan Shearer got 23 goals in 118 league appearance for Souhampton in his first five years as a pro.

Worse than 1 in 5 and he had a real dirty side to him as well.

He might have been a boring, moaning miserable Geordie ****. But he was also the greatest English centre forward of his generation.

Just not at 20 years old.

Okay, I give up... I think we should sign Billy Sharp and Nicky Maynard, they're available aren't they? 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Maynard came from Crewe and Sharp Sheff Unt reserves.

They are out of our price range now, we need to find someone like that like Bristol City and Doncaster did when they signed them.

Le Fondre gets bummed on here a lot wasn't he 400k from Rotheram.

Maynard was still 2.25million from Crewe and Doncaster was paying Sharp 10+k a week

they were never cheap, there is no proven strikers out there within our price range and if there were then I do believe this board would be plastered with their name!

Albert & ambitious I stand corrected on Maynard he was 2.25 apologies.

however Sammon ain't the answer so hope Wigan don't budge on there asking price as I don't want us to blow our budget on a hard working limited striker

Sammon is 6'3

[url=http://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10429~43945,00.html]No [url=http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/players/profile.overview.html/conor-sammon]he [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conor_Sammon]isn't. I don't know where this 6'3" thing came from, but every source I can find of any value lists him as 5'10", this includes his club, the Premier League and Wikipedia, which whilst not the greatest source, is generally upkept on such matters fairly well.

Trust me mate, he is, i've seen him, he is NOT 5'10.

Loads of sites say that's he's 5'10 for some reason, but he's not, he's 6'3.

I agree, a lot of prolific strikers are going to be well out of our price range because they're in demand. I'm going to predict that we're either going to buy a back-up striker who doesn't get much game time somewhere or a prolific young striker from league 1/2. Unfortunately, my football knowledge stops after the Championship so I don't have a clue who it could be 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':P' />
