NICK Montgomery’s situation at Bramall Lane is being monitored by a host of Championship clubs, The Star understands.

Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Burnley are among those teams known to be considering bids while Brighton, Birmingham City and possibly Leeds could yet enter the fray.

United’s Yorkshire rivals were previously thought to have cooled their interest after the midfielder rejected an earlier opportunity to move to Elland Road.”

Montgomery, a former Scotland under-21 and Futures international, was an unused sub in Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Salisbury but could return to action when Danny Wilson’s side host Yeovil Town in League One tomorrow.

Blimey - reading the comments of the fans (who seem an odd bunch!) Montgomery isn't exactly Mr Popular. Sounds like a man who has had his day. If he can't pass then we don't want him. Battlers are great as long as they then play the simple ball. Hoofers only cause pressure. We have enough panickers. What we need is a composed footballer who can keep his position and calm things down when we take the lead.

........................please no.......please,please, PLEASE NO! exactly the type of signing we dont need 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> much prefer if we put a bid in for Tonge or Soares from stoke.

I bought Soares from Stoke on fm2012, quality player, made him my captain! Although i did have to pay £1.2 million for him 'http://www.dcfcfans.co.uk/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

Exactly the type of player we need IMO, a player that ensures we wont lose to many midfield battles, i've been saying we should sign him for about 5-6 years, this season I actually thought against it and we actually get linked with him.

I don't know what he is like recently, so can't cast judgement because I'd just be lying, havent seen him play in about 3 years in all honesty, someone of that ilk I would like perhaps a bit younger but suppose we need experience.

A Seth Johnson of our promotion season..

first thought is that he signed a new 3 year contract in 2010 so he would be on hefty wages which would interfere with our wage structure. He is not renowned as a great passer and is more of a ball winner. If there is anything in this I would be surprized unless a move for Green takes place.

Bryson, Bailey, Hendrick....Will Hughes coming through, Green still here, Addison potentially returning?

Can't see us signing NIck Montgomery then really. If we're signing anyone surely it'll be more of an attacking/wide midfielder?

Im happy with the squad as it is.

I'm happy with the job the squad are doing..... but we lack depth.. theres nothing on the bench to change things when we are losing,

plus a few injuries it will be harder still ( Please dont take this as a moan ) it seems to be a fine balance kitty and depth...which is out of cloughs control.

imo we wouldn't be overloaded with another defender , midfielder and striker!!!
