Boycie
The forest ran away, for we will fight forever more, because of boxing day. Why? What happened?

davenportram
Werent local Derby's held on boxing day to cut out travelling time for fans and players once upon a time, or am I making that up? I have seen old programmes for games played on Christmas day - bet that would be popular nowadays (null)
Emjlc02
I was always told it was a Sheffield wed song as one boxing day they battered Sheffield utd then loads of other sides copied it.

jagerbob
I was always sure it was because of the traditional boxing day was local rivals day. It wasnt so long ago, that burton played gresley every boxing day, or tamworth or whoever else was nearest as they moved up through the divisions, also when i was in wales every boxing day every rugby team played whoever was their local team in terms of shortage mileage. I remember when they first started to use a computer to generate the fixtures, Everton away at Arsenal and Spurs away to Liverpool on boxing day.... What a load of toss.... CumbrianRam
This boxing day Chelsea v Fulham Liverpool v Blackburn Man Utd v Wigan Stoke v Aston Villa M'boro v Hull Preston v Carlisle Huddersfield v Chestersfield Tranmere v Rochdale Dag & Red v Barnet Aldershot v Southend Morcambe v Accrington Northampton v Burton Torquay v Swindon can all be classed as local/derby games IMO You do have games like Watford v Cardiff too which involve some traveling with a 12pm kick off! uttoxram75
we drew away at Forest boxing day 1978, when they were at their Clough inspired best... This was the one. We drew 1-1 at Forest on boxing day 1978. Archie Gemmill was playing for the reddogs. It was sacrilege and feelings ran high. There was a large contingent of Derby fans who were pretty pissed off with the fact that Forest were on the up and we had been the best team in England only 3 years before. The bit about, "and forest ran away", was raite. Derby were a bit naughty in Nottingham that day.............
