Brian Little sacked

GAINSBOROUGH Trinity have sacked manager Brian Little, in the wake of Saturday’s 4-0 demolition by Stalybridge Celtic.

The former Aston Villa boss joined the club in August 2009, but was only able to lead them to a 14th place finish in his first season in the Blue Square North.

Last season the Blues faced a relegation battle, but managed to claw their way to safety and finish 19th.

But a large section of the club’s fanbase called into question Little’s position on numerous occasions, and that discontent surfaced once more after Saturday’s heavy defeat.

One win in the first three games of the season wasn’t enough to keep him in the job, and chairman Peter Swann confirmed on the supporters’ message board today: “The club can confirm that Brian Little has had his contract terminated from lunchtime today.”

Football development manager Steve Housham is set to take over from Little as caretaker boss for tomorrow night’s clash with Corby.

A further statement is expected later this evening.
