I love the holiday excuse - did these 10,000 people not go on holidays 2/3/4 years ago!!!

Granted Donny's following was shocking, but the crux of the matter is that our season tickets (of which we have sold many) are relatively cheap, while our walk up tickets (of which we have sold few) are the 3rd most expensive in the league.

I can't see us averaging over 25k even if we are in or around the play-offs all season as people simply cannot afford it.

We are 2000 down on last seasons home attendance for the second home game. Average attendance is still 25k

We sold around 19,000/20,000 season tickets I think so that means 3-4000 walk up fans - some of them freebies.

If we do well again next week then I think we will see 26/27000 after the international break.

I was at the game today, and what a pleasure it was!! A nice early goal, superbly headed by Kilbane and set up by B Davies to settle the nerves. Then comfortably got in at 1-0 at half-time. Then a few seconds into the 2nd half, a superb header from S Davies set up again by B Davies, and 15 mins later a brilliant B Davies curler to wrap up the points.

It was a superb team performance, and you could see that they played with confidence and a lot of effort. I hope Ward isn't injured for too long, but long may these performances continue, a brilliant 3-0 win!! :D

It was only around 24k when we played Donny last season. Let's face it, Donny aren't exactly a big draw.....

The original game on Boxing Day was cancelled due to electrical failure and was re-arranged. If this had taken place as originally scheduled the attendance would have been over 30,000.

Donny had sold their entire allocation for the Boxing Day game but fetched only half of that to the re-arranged mid-week fixture.

Today Derby County, fresh from three

back-to -back League victories faced

Doncaster Rovers, travelling down from

South Yorkshire having failed to pick up a

single point this season. The Rams had

shot up to third place in the League,

behind only Southampton and Brighton. It

was their best start to a League campaign

since 1949.

On the other hand, Donny couldn’t have

faced a worse start to the season. In their

opening game away to Championship

newcomers Brighton and Hove Albion, they

looked to have won it if it wasn’ t for a late

Brighton show that stole all three points.

But the real disaster was the loss of two of

their most talented players Billy Sharp and

James Hayter. Donny were rock bottom

going into today’s game, their beginning to

2011/12 being a polar opposite to Derby’s.

Though some believe Doncaster are a

“bogey team” to Derby, a club that

persistently gains points from teams

despite being underdogs in any

predicament. So it is likely that Nigel

Clough wouldn’ t have taken any prisoners

today and sent out a complacent team.

Derby certainly didn’ t. They stuck with the

same back four for the fifth game running

with John Brayford, Mark O’Brien, Jason

Shackell and Kevin Kilbane. They played

good football from the word go.

Doncasters’ ex-Derby man Giles Barnes

won a corner very early on in the game. As

he took it a ring of boos circulated around

the ground. A tough reception for the

flamboyant forward but arguably deserved

due to his perceived lack of effort

undertaken while he was here and the

obvious fact Derby County was a stepping

stone in his career, a career that has lifted

him to the heights of Doncaster Rovers.

Barnes’ corner was to no avail and Derby

regained possession, overturning the play

to quickly win a corner on the other side

of the pitch. Unmarked Kevin Kilbane

effortlessly headed home a Ben Davies

corner to put the Rams ahead after just six

minutes.

The Rams persistently hunted a second

goal throughout the second half but

couldn’t quite manage it. It was great to

go into half-time happy as Rovers seemed

to offer less of a challenge to Clough’s

team as Blackpool and Watford did last

week. Craig Bryson worked very hard,

biting the ankles of the Rovers back four.

Unfortunately the ever impressive Jamie

Ward had to be substituted in the first half

for Lee Croft due to injury.

The Rams took little time to come out of

the tunnel and extend their lead. Not even

a minute into the second half, a Ben

Davies cross allowed Steve Davies to make

it two. From this point on Derby looked

positively unbeatable and controlling

aspects of the game despite Doncaster

having more possession. Sean O’Driscoll

has made his side one that is capable of

making good passing play but a strong

Derby side were just too much for them.

Their back four looked overwhelmed by

both goals, and barely five minutes later

another swinging corner from Ben Davies

allowed eighteen year old Mark O’Brien to

connect, but he headed wide. Everyone

knew it could have easily been three.

Ben Davies was declared Man of the Match

over today’s tannoy, and there’s no

denying he deserved the accolade. His

assists provided the goals, and it was fitting

that he should contribute with an

impressive shot of his own in the sixty-

third minute. His hammer of a right foot

had just a second to convert a pass from

Steve Davies from left of the eighteen yard

box. From just inside the box he wrapped

up a sublime goal that will supplement a

memorable day for the playmaker fast

becoming a catalyst for the Rams. Brought

in as a scrutinized replacement for

outgoing Kris Commons last January,

Davies now doesn’t look to be doing less

than what Commons did in terms of

assists.

It was a relatively small number of 23,377

people who came to watch today. Derby’s

attendance figures have taken a battering

recently due to the poverty of last season’s

performance resulting in fans running out

of patience. However, if the Rams continue

to play the way they did today then there’ s

no way they can’t start crawling their way

back to the top of the attendance charts.

A great day for Derby, and a fourth win in

four games makes this start to the season

the best in one-hundred -and- six years. All

those years ago Steve Bloomer was playing

and hopefully he was watching today

Fielding - 6 - Had nothing to do at all, but kicking was good, a bit refreshing compared to painful kicks we had to endure with Bywater. Nice to see the defender being able to pass it back to him and have that confidence in him, can act as an extra outfield player.

Brayford - 6 - Did what was required

Shackell - 7 - Leads the backline very well, constantly talking to O'Brien and helps the young lad effetively. A true leader.

O'Brien - 7 - Another solid performance. 7 appearences for the club? Acts like he's played 107.

Kilbane - 6 - Well taken goal, but gave the ball away a bit to easily, and shows a worryingly lack of pace, which I think will be majorly exposed when he comes up against a quick right winger, such as Ainsworth. Needs to be fixed a.s.a.p

Bailey - 6 - Didn't get his foot on the ball enough for my liking, if we are to get back to our best he will need to get more time on the ball.

Henderick - 6 - Seemed to go missing a lot, and seemed hesistent at times, obviously it's his first home start, so you can't really blame him if he was a bit over-whelmed by the atmosphere, but promising signs. Seems to be a strong lad.

Ward - 5 - Looked good while he was on, and we did lose that attacking outlet when he went off, hopefully he wilkl only miss Burnley.

B.Davies - 8 - Full of running, well taken set pieces and pinpoint cross for Steve Davies second goal, looks like he's full of confidence and it's showing. Well taken goal aswell.

Bryson - 7 - Full of running, and really pressured their defence to stop them building an attack, kept forcing them back constantly. Looked shattered after 75 minutes, and I would of bought Maguire on a bit earlier just to try and push for another goal.

S. Davies - 7 - Great header, and looked a threat all day. You get the feeling any shot around the 18-yard box is going to be on target more often then not, and it helps against those teams which you wont be able to walk it in. Beaten in the air to much for my liking.

Subs

Croft - 6 - Linked up well with Brayford, but lacked the end product a few times.

Robinson- 6 - Full of running, and made a few clever runs. We know he's nowhere near the full product, but their are good signs.

Maguire - Not enough time to rate.

:)

I can't remember ever stating an opinion of Ben Davies, but I'm not convinced I would ever refer to him his as a 'key player'. How many key players can a first 11 have? I'd pick at least 6 players ahead of him when naming my team sheet. Not saying he isn't a useful player, but 'key'?

I have however, maintained throughout the summer that S.Davies is more than capable of a healthy goal tally, comfortably into double figures, and he appears to be doing my faith justice.

Edit: Fielding, Shackell, Barker, Brayford, Bailey, S.Davies, Ward & Tyson are all before B.Davies, several other players are at least on a par of importance.

I think with Ben Davies in our team means we will always have chances to score in a match no matter how we play, from set pieces he is NOW putting in the quality I knew he could all along perhaps the pressure is off and he is no performing but the important thing is, he is performing in that area.

How many assists and goals can a set piece specialist(ergh) get you in this league? Idiakez in his latter days didn't even attempt to break into a sweat but still managed to put the ball into the net from set pieces, he will always have that and therefore key.

I would say outright on ability Cwyka is better than Davies, but Davies in a match is far more effective..

Well you couldn't really ask for more in the Donny games - 2 pinpoint crosses, and then a lovely finish for his goal. He struggled last season but for the odd glimpse of greatness, this year, looking much, much better. Finally, someone who can cross properly, wow! Shame we didn't still have Hulse as well, with a Davies-Hulse combo we'd probably score 3/4 every game! :D

That being said, Steve Davies isn't exactly bad in the air anyway is he.

Top scorer last season, once Commons had gone, was 5 goals wasn't it? Steve Davies is already on 3. Good lad.

Another decent response by a losing Manager;

Doncaster boss Sean O'Driscoll had no complaints about the result.

"Goals dictate results but we've always concentrated on performances and I thought in the first half we were in second gear and in the second we were in reverse," he said.

"It's disappointing because it's the first time this season we haven't come off the pitch thinking we deserved something."
