'Go back to Burton, you're clueless about football'

Absolutely sick to death of paying money to be surrounded by people at football who know seem to have no understanding of the current situation, how we got there, and how we might get ourselves out of it.

People who expect immediate results - do you have a clue how much the wage bill has been slashed since Nigel Clough took charge? Do you think this is something he wanted to do? We are in a situation whereby the board are instructing the sale of players for pretty much any fee. We won't fight to keep anyone if anything like a respectable bid comes in. This is not NC's fault.

Some things I don't agree with, like the interview yesterday. I don't generally agree with the personal attacks, although he was criticising individuals when we were winning, so our bad run can't be attributed to this. No one knows what makes those players tick. He was singling Commons out for criticism when he was on form, and continued to score goals. Cwyka may come out and have a blinder, and until then, we won't know the effect that interview will have.

As I've said on this forum before, we have a threadbare squad and no money, and to some extent, owners with the sole ambition of cutting costs. We can't afford to get another manager in that would add any further value, and even if we did, we don't have a squad that suggests we are in a lower league position than we should be. Sack him, and the only viable alternative (financially) that I can think of would be Metgod.

The under investment in this club is absolutely chronic, and is much more frustrating than some of the mistakes a young, talented manager might make. The fact that Clough gives interviews regularly means he is much more accesible than the men in suits, which makes it easier to target him. I would be much more open to the idea of a formal protest against the owners than a manager who is working with, through no fault of his own, a squad barely capable of survival in this league.

We can't improve the squad, and we can't realistically change the manager, until such a time that a) the board decide to invest or b) we get new owners. I would love to see Chris Hughton at Derby (although in no way do I think Clough deserves to lose his job). Tell me how that happens financially and we can put a case forward to the board.

Otherwise, I would suggest that rather than starting a 'go back to Burton, you're clueless about football' chant (which would probably start a 'go back home, you know nothing about Derby County, Nigel Clough, or anything football related chant), you back a group of players that are in dire need of a boost, back the manager, and back the club.

Or, in the words of the great Lionel Pickering, 'if you don't like it, go and watch forest'. You're causing more harm than good.

Good post but I fear you've unintentionally made a very good argument for why Nigel shouldn't be at the club (or indeed was the right man to employ when it was clear there would be no money to spend) and why, thanks to the under investment and subsequent turbulent time we are going through on and off the pitch, we need an experienced manager who can hold a steady ship and who can motivate, organise and is a little more tactically astute.

I dont want Clough to leave at the moment but he appears to be a man struggling to cope with it all.

What improvement? When Jewell left we had a sub-standard squad of players who were devoid of confidence and a winning mentality and were struggling at the wrong end of the table.

Now look at us..

When Jewell left us we were heading for relegation with a squad on promotion chasing wages.

Clough kept us up, we then beat relegation the next season and last season was our third highest finish in ten years.

This season we saw glimpses of what Nigel can create here, the team hits a bad run and everyone wants him out. Had this form been the other way around, people would be hailing him as a genius.

The aim this season was always a top half finish, that's what Nigel himself was aiming for. We've had a bad run against in-form sides, and the games against Crawley Town and Forest away smashed any confidence that the side had before then.

IMO, we can still finish 11th/12th, if we start to turn results around. I still think we're capable of that. I expect this summer to be big for Derby, with a look to investment and who Nigel brings in. If we don't move anywhere next season then it might be time to look elsewhere.

But I still have faith in him. Not blind faith, just my opinion based on what I see.

We were heading for relegation? We were 18th when Nigel took over, we ended the season 18th as well. You portray it as some amazing feat, some sort of Houdini escape act.

I'd love you to be right Alex, I sincerely would, I just don't have faith in it happening anymore.

Our current run and style is exactly the same as when phil brown went and jewell went.

Our manager after 2 years in charge has said we are in a relegation battle and with 1 win out of 13. Great progress

Phil Brown never did anything to suggest we could achieve anything under his management. Paul Jewell spent a fortune to put us in this position, I think both scenarios are different to the one Nigels in.

Phil Brown and the 3 amigos left us with a completely threadbare squad, after selling off all our saleable assets, and with one striker on the books.

Ring any alarm bells?

What has Clough done, we have 1 good run every season. So what does that suggest

I honestly think that Nigel Clough, Johnny Metgod and Gary Crosby, post on this website, such is the narrow minded blinkered adoration NC gets on here.

IMO the most important thing about our desperate situation is that NC has NO track record in league management whatsoever, so absolutely knowone can justify saying that NC will definately get it right.

If it were Paul Jewell you could point to several successful seasons at different clubs but Nigel and his band of merry men are just ex Forest players, nothing more nothing less. We aren't dealing with Toddy or Roy Mc or any other Derby Legend, people like that deserve our blind faith and loyalty. A group of Forest players should be given short shrift.

There's also a lot of hidden Reddogs as well. Just my observation in reading some anti Clough /GSE comments.
