Mick Quinn played as an apprentice.  Pretty close.

At the end of Portsmouth's home fixture against West Bromwich Albion on 25 October 1986, Quinn and teammate Paul Wood were both ejected from the ground by police officers after being overheard swearing at a linesman during the second half of the game. Chief Inspector David Hanna of Hampshire Constabulary said they would have been ejected at half-time if the incident had happened in the first half.

Interesting with the crowd goading and shouting that happens today.  Thought it was all much more civilised in the new golden age of TV money

44 minutes ago, Gee SCREAMER !! said:

He the one that played 4 games.  Hurt his back in one, then played in a defeat against Doncaster and hurt it again, then retired and now makes a living taking the piss out of us for betting firms.  I'm not sure we had his best.😃

I think that might have been it. He was in his late 30s by the time he was here wasn't he?

Big nose, and useless.....

Harry Storer (as player and manager)

Gary Ablett (briefly)

Useless fact perhaps, but Storer, who also played over 300 matches for Derbyshire, might just pip Roy Mac as the Scouser with the most combined" appearances" as a player and manager, although Roy Mac wins easily if you count his time as Assistant to Taylor and Cox respectively.
