FL needs to get switched on and quick its alright playing 4-3-3 when you have the quality he played in at Chelsea, sadly we havent.

Our 2 wide men Lawrence/wilson are powder puff at best and give no protection what so ever leaving us completely exposed.

To make the system work you need quality on the flanks and a dictator central midfield with a centre forward looking for the ball at all times, sadly yesterday we had none

Arguably we didn’t have the personal last season to play 3 at the back, however it actually worked very well in the final few games. This year we have invested in attacking full backs so I think we do have the players for it. It takes the pressure off Keogh too and I liked him in a 3.

Carson gk

keogh rcb

davies cb

tomori lcb

wisdom rwb

lowe lwb

Bryson cm

Mount cm

Wilson RW

Waghorn St

Lawrence LW

You loose the issue of holding mid in this position as you don’t have one 3-4-3

other option is 352 but that would involve us playing Wilson and Lawrence as wing back or loosing them completely.

Major difference is that last season there was no intention of playing out from the back.

What do you guys think

A formation change wouldn't have altered the result.  A lot of fans have been calling for a young team playing flowing football. That combination along with a manager with no experience, will result in more losses than wins, initially at least.

I think not dismantling a squad which got to 2nd in the league last year and finished in the playoff positions, and bringing in academy players by a management team who havent ever coached or managed at thias level before was not a wise idea.

Thats what i think!

No, but having Davies and Huddlestone in the team might have. I feel for Frank that he's lost two of his most experienced players just as the season proper is getting going.

It will be a blend of youth and experience that will make us click, just not got that blend right yet.

Not good losing Davies, but at his age, he will have a fair share if injuries. Ditto Huddlestone. Thing is, with a massive squad like DCFC have, it's not easy to use injured players as an excuse for losing.

I don't think anyone would argue that they had the better players on the day but our formation/personnel played a massive part in our downfall.

From their first goal it was obvious that they were getting too much space in the middle of the park.

Its early days but already I am wondering if we have the personnel to play the type of game that FL has in mind, I certainly don't see anyone in the squad capable of playing the CDM role on their own.

If we are going to continue playing with 2 wingers and 2 attacking full backs I think it would be a mistake to play with one CDM.

Just my opinion and I'm fully aware that I'm not tactical genius!

Sorry to say....they had better players on the day. All round.

I wasn't disagreeing with you, just saying we might have done better with them.

Is this Davies' first missed game for us? He seemed to be there all last season. Huddlestone missed a few, I know.

Unfortunately for us we have a big squad but they aren't all like for like, either in terms of fit to our current formation or in terms of quality.

I was pretty impressed with 'steady Ledley' last year but he's not suiting the current system at all. I thought Huddlestone might be likewise but he played some fantastic through balls against Southampton. We've not seen enough of him this season to know for sure either way yet.

Wag horn is an experienced player but had been with the squad for three days' training on Saturday. He'll get better.

Like you, I am expecting us to win some lose some and I am happy to give it time.
