Ovis aries
Is this commentator watching the same game as me, he says Spain have been far the better team , but we have shown a few nice touches, yeah if those nice touches had been a tad nicer we could have had two if not three goals , we are just as good as Spain IMHO

Van der MoodHoover
Ps is it just me or is sterling really dreadful? Sort of a new millennium Tony Daley. Loads of pace but little skill and zero intelligence.

Could still see the excellent Spanish goal well enough. Started by yet another cock up by sterling who seems to have been reading Johnny Russells dribbling tips and went straight into the first man. sage
We've lost 2-0 away from home to probably the 4th best team in the world with virtually a inexperienced partly second string team. Relax
RamNut
England are a poor team that gets worse. spain never got out of second gear but were capable of producing moments of skill which illustrate a gulf which becomes apparent at every tournament. sorry to say. Alph
Thought England did alright. It's that same old problem of people saying England arent that good and yet still expecting them to be good All those pundits were saying they wanted England to try and gain possession. Spain have better footballers. They aren't just a better team. Each individual is technically gifted. Controlling the ball would be impossible. So it comes down to defending well and hitting on the break. England did that pretty well considering the team they sent out. But it was always the final ball. England say that England won't compete with Spain but then expect to do exactly that. They have to play like they did. You wouldn't expect Southampton to keep the ball off Barcelona. Just use it wisely when they have it.

Van der MoodHoover
The stated purpose of these games was to try some new combinations. So what do people think roy might have learned? For me the key takeaways were.... 1. Lallana is very vulnerable to pace and is easily targeted by a pressing team. 2. Games pass Carrick by too easily. It was yet another opportunity for him to impress that he didn't take. 3. Sterling is prone slowing moves down unnecessarily to try a few step overs. 4. It was not obvious to me which of the missing so-called senior players might have made much difference. Would love us to have some ball playing central defenders like sir bobby or toddy. 5. A 4-3-3 might have worked better if it resulted in a better high press but would be higher risk. 6. The days of England being able to use superior fitness to at least partially compensate for lack of technique and skill seem long gone. 7. Our tournament expectations should be limited to hoping to get out of the group. Anything further will be luck of the draw in avoiding teams like Spain. 8. Finally it was sobering to think Spain had as awful a world cup as we did. We seem to have had different trajectories since.
